MartinT (4241), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Aug 7, 2006 Any first impressions?
-A sheet of head shrouds the near-opaque black.
-Bountiful bourbon laces the sweet cherries and creates vinosity in the nose.
-The muscular bourbon sweetness is ably linked to the juicy cherries and dark chocolate in a definitely outgoing flavor profile.
-The smooth carbonation serves the luxurious maltiness perfectly.
What if you dig deeper?
-Some roastiness garnishes the palate.
-A bright alcohol sparkle precedes a wooden dryness.
-BBQ sauce and red wine are curiously evoked by the aroma, making this a meat-loving strong stout to my tastebuds.
-A nice barrel-aging experiment for strong flavor lovers, which happens to be almost absurdly eccentric for the conservative Maine brewing scene.
On tap at the brewpub. ukoolaid (565), Amherst, Massachusetts, USA May 14, 2006 On tap in Bethel. Pitch black pour with tan head and good lacing. Sweet milk stout aroma. Plum fruitiness with maybe a little sweet chocolate. tiggmtl (4157), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Mar 15, 2006 Strong roasty aroma has some berry-like fruits and chocolate notes. Opaque, dark, black body is topped by a decent off white/tan, fine bubbled (nitro?) head that recedes slowly to a lasting cover with plenty of lacing. Raisins, chocolate, plenty of roasted malts and some ginger-like spiciness in the mouth coupled with moderate bitterness. Medium body with fairly prickly, sharp carbonation. Sampled on tap at the Extreme Brewers Fest 2006. Rastacouere (5202), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Feb 23, 2006 Tan regular shaped, small bubbled head covers the black pour. Fruity, sweet nose hinting at blackcurrant and anise, bready and espresso-like. It develops a rather harsh woodyness that blends in the coffee to detract from the otherwise enjoyable fruitiness. Smooth palate, medium-full bodied, yet with up front carbonation that leaves a drying bite. Not the most focused in the category, but adequately complex.
