BigBen2120 (558), Gardiner(52 miles from Allagash), Maine, USA Jul 2, 2008 22oz bomber from Ron’s Market in Farmington. A somewhat vigorous pour yields a good half inch of short-lived tan head resting on a nearly opaque black body with very slight ruby-red highlights. Smells nutty, with black licorice, and a slight roast. Tastes like black licorice with burnt paper and chocolate in the background. Flavors are kind of muted, and the licorice clearly dominates. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Easy enough to drink considering the mouth feel and abv, but I must say I am not overall very impressed with this one...
WeeHeavySD (1846), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Aug 10, 2008 Bomber from Mckean and Charles shared with my girlfriend Cyn. Pours black with a 1 finger tan head. Nose is sweet and malty. Taste is sweet and malty and roasty. This is certainly decent. Glad to have tried it. VTHopHead (700), Barre, Vermont, USA Aug 2, 2008 Bomber - Poured a cloudy very dark brown in color with a small tan head that hung in there. Aroma is medium roasty with hints of estery fruitiness. Flavor is also roasty with some astringency with mild bitterness. Nice malty base... molassas, brown sugar. Definitely easy drinking. Not the best stout that I’ve had, but good... Oakes (6973), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Jul 2, 2008 Pretty close to black. Aroma is molassesy, slightly fruity with a hint of roastiness. Rich molasses, some light burnt cashew notes. Very slight fruitiness. Big chewy rich molassesy finish, again with a hint of acridity from the roast, almost like a roast chicory. Black pour. Hop forward stout with intense coffee and chocolate flavors developing. Very interesting .
