Q: “What do you call it when Greg takes his entire harvest bounty of chili pepper varieties from his own personal garden, take half of them and add to…and thus ruin…an otherwise beautiful oak barrel of Double Dry Hopped Lukcy Basartd Ale?” A: “A Crime!”

500ml bottle - 2013 vintage - pours a nice amber color with a light tan head . Pungent pepper spice aroma , slightly fruity . Taste is sweet spicy oak and bourbon up front but the pepper spice builds .... And builds .... And builds ! Not overwhelming but not for beginners. Very good ! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

When you eat peppers, your butt hurts. But what happens when you DRINK peppers? The bottle pours a murky burgundy color. I don’t remember the Lucky Bastard being nearly as dark as this -- color must have been drawn from the peppers or barrels. One finger of silky light tan froth sits atop the liquid. Smells like jalapeño, fresh and green. Some floral hops; a dollop of caramel. Odd mix, this blend of sugary malts and vegetal peppers. Flavor is good up front. Nice toasty oak, vanilla, caramel and toast initially. Some of that green pepper flavor shows up as well. The swallow brings the heat and more toasty oak, along with a smack of orange peel and some fresh-cut grass. Capsaicin cleans out the flavor, making pepper the only thing you’re left tasting between sips. Medium body, soft carbonation. Heat is pretty substantial, but not unendurable. This is better than reviews have led me to believe. The heat is one notch above what I’d like -- cut the number of peppers in half and it would be perfect.

Bottle (2013) shared by wolf. Pours a murky red color almost no head. Nose is off the charts! Tons of vanilla/bourbon and spicy peppers. Taste is not for freshman...strictly lineman... Tons of heat on this big boy. Spicy notes on the front of your palate... burning on the back of your throat. INTENSE... Sipper... Medium slightly sticky body but it is hard to focus on anything but the heat from the beer. This is a love or hate beer. I loved it, but share the heat with a friend!

Bottle, 2013 series Batch 08 9.6% abv, bourbon barrels consumed Feb 2015. Pours mahogany with nice head, some lacing, quite hazy. Aroma is fruity, some hops, malt, some hint of peppers to come. Taste is really complex, dark fruit, bitterness, heat from the peppers. Pepper character is complex with a nice rounded but punchy profile. I happen to love the heat level in this one .. it must have been something when fresh(er). The bourbon character comes on at the end with the lingering heat. Complex and tasty.

500 ml. corked and caged bottle. 2013 series Batch 8. Bottled Oct. 2013. 102 IBU, 9.6% ABV. Shared with others at brew club. Pours a thick, well retained ivory head, over a slightly hazy dark amber (SRM 16) body....nose is musty, woody, earthy, vanilla, light dried fruits, hints of cocoa, chile.....taste is plum, raisin, light sweetness, cocoa, chocolate, heavy chile heat and spice, minimal hops...mouth feel medium, sticky, alcohol warmth, slight chile astringency. The chile is utterly dominant, with the malts, hints of hops, and yeast additions sneaking in on the edges. It is really just a chile beer, which is too bad as the other contributors are there, just difficult to appreciate. This is a failed experiment and the chile additions need major readjustment. 2013 bourbon barrel-aged bottle. It pours a deep amber with a tan head and lacing. The aroma is overwhelmingly spicy peppers with some bourbon in the background. The flavor is hot peppers that get stronger with the finish. Interesting, but too much heat for my taste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

i liked it. TONS of pepper flavors, but its tasty, i like heat. A bit too much but its hurts so good, given that its a novelty and doesnt get extra points for that.

Broke this out for a pre Thanksgiving dinner treat. Pours cloudy brown amber color. Sweet malty aroma with nice spicy chili pepper aroma. Flavor starts sweet caramel malt with some pine followed with a pungent black pepper flavor and hear that hits you in the back of the tougne. Really nice chili pepper flavor. Big spicy heat in finish.

500 ml bottle poured into a brandy snifter. Pours a somewhat hazy amber with a beige head of foam. The aroma has nice notes of peppers and bourbon. I get jalapeño more than any of the other peppers used. The taste is alright, but the heat really makes it unpleasant. It would make a good wing sauce or a glaze. Luckily, I thought of this in time to save it for just that. In shirt, too spicy to drink, but it smells pretty nice to this pepper head.

Sample at Kurtkeller 018: Tequila-aged and Let’s Agree to Ruin Our Evening with Pepper beers-tastic 01 on 11/04/2014. Clear ruby-amber color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing. Peppers and oak in the nose. Medium-bodied with flavors of vegetal peppers, grainy malt and a bit of wood. The finish is hot with a peppery aftertaste. A little too overboard for me, average overall.
