Q: “What do you call it when Greg takes his entire harvest bounty of chili pepper varieties from his own personal garden, take half of them and add to…and thus ruin…an otherwise beautiful oak barrel of Double Dry Hopped Lukcy Basartd Ale?” A: “A Crime!”

Pours hazy red/brown with with a small offwhite head, specks of lace. Smells mellow sweet malty with lots and lots of earthy type peppers. Tastes of earth and peppers only a hint of sweetness. Lingering peppers and a bit of heat. Medium body, good carbonation.

Bomber from ck1, cellar aged 7 months and shared with ck1 & Jan. Thanks bro! Pours orangey. Aroma heavy peppery. Lotta heat through the mouth and throat. Not so much base beer presence. Decent once got used to it. 12.8 ck1 says 12.

500 ml bottle via local trade. 2013 vintage. Pours a semi-cloudy amber with an off-white head. Big pepper notes - spicy and vegetal, with caramel, brown sugar, and oak. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sweet, but very spicy mouthfeel. Dries the palate and can be felt most of the way down. Very aggressive pepper beer, but not as bad as widely said to be.

From bottle during the BeerMongers Fifth Anniversary Bottle Share. Deep amber color. Intense chili aroma, burns the nostrils. Taste is herbal, vegetal, and most of all, chili heat. Not too hot, the fresh chili flavor lingers long after.

"Uh...well...they were NOT screwing around with this beer. I LOVE hot stuff. Peppers, sauces, whatever. The initial aroma out of the bottle and at first pour, though, scared me a little. While I still think this could have been better with a little restraint, I did enjoy it. However, the bar had been set VERY VERY high with the previous Scotch barreled/Stone Farm versions of Crime (& Punishment). This was way way hotter. It took some time, and some woek, for the barrel, or the base beer, to really make an appearance. I could feel the barrel before I could taste it. It did open up, but was still very heavily pepper dominated, with oak, bourbon, a carmelly fruity sweetness, and hops all just making a guest appearance. Good, especially for this pepper lover, but I gotta admit, I was hoping for pure excellence, based on the prior release. Stay away from this if you don’t automatically order "nitro" when that is an option. You’ve been warned. I have two bottles, but will not buy more at the high price. :("

Bottle courtesy of obguthr, side by side with Punishment provided by maniac, a great example of beer tasting collaboration and planning. Cloudy. Intense aroma of fresh peppers. Holy cow, taste is hot, hot hot.

Tasted on 2/8/14 from a 500mL bottle at the RBWG Grand Tasting. Pours clear light brown with an average off-white head that slowly recedes to an average collar of lace. The nose is some caramel malt with a ridiculous amount of burning chili pepper making it hard to smell anything else. The flavor is almost exactly the same, crazy spicy without much else discernible. The body is full with average carbonation and a very long burning spicy finish.

A "friend" brought this over for my birthday. Some friend. So this beer advertises that it’s not very good... Pours murky reddish brown with no head. Not surprising. Initial hit in the aroma is of vanilla, then chilies and oxidation. Flavor is all heat and nothing more. Slight smokiness maybe. In a masochistic way I kinda enjoy it, but something that tastes like this is better served with tortilla chips. And the burps are gross.

500 ml caged and corked bottle, bottled October 2013. Served in a snifter, the beer pours a cloudy reddish/brown color with some sediment floaties noticeable. There’s about an inch tan head that stayed around for a long time, and a good amount of lacing. The brew smells mostly like spicy and green peppers, along with some caramel. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there’s the addition of a bit of oak, vanilla and bourbon that kicks in after a while. But this brew is all about the spicy peppers, it’s good and hot! Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s coating with moderate carbonation. Overall I liked this. Yeah, I finished the bottle and my eyes are watering right now, but I wouldn’t mind trying this again in the future. But it’s certainly a brew that I would have to be in a certain mood to drink, because it’s hotter than most of the chili beers I’ve tried before.

Pours burnt umber with a small beige head. Smells strongly of peppers, roast, and hints of chocolate. Taste is spicy to the extreme with hints of caramel. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Stone Crime finishes with a hot pepper burn.
