4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
"Here’s a beer that the oak aging really did a number on the base, and in a very good way. I liked the black ale, but thought it a little rough around the edges and sweet. The oak toned those thing down while maintaining everything that was good in the original. Really liked this!"

Bottle thanks to Jen. Pours a very dark brown with medium creamy beige head that lasts. The aroma is roast, raisin, oak, vanilla. Medium mouthfeel with nice chocolate, roast, molasses, with light booze finish. Very nice.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
The beer is near black with a small tan head. The aroma offers roast, pine, chocolate, oak. Wood flavors emerge more in the flavor. Nicely balanced. Chocolate notes and a pine finish. Notes of vanilla emerge as the beer opens up. A touch of molasses. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. A solid beer. I would have this again.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Served from a bottle at Stone’s 16th Anniversary Festival. The appearance is a deep dark brown hue without too much head. The nose is full of black malts, figs, and floral accented pepper with some light oak smells. The flavors are baker’s chocolate, peppercorn, nice figs and dried fruit, tasty oak but not the usual grainy variety. The flavor profile has a lot of unique characteristics that you just don’t find in beers, and they work wonderfully together. Smooth, flavorful, and well melded. The oak addition is nice but only adds minimally to the overall enjoyment of a base beer I already love.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle... Poured near black with a thin, light tan head. Got a lot of the virgin oak tones here. Was very effervescent in that sense. Reminded me of fresh cut wood. Malt sweetness and cocoa came into play too with dark fruits and vanilla. Quite nice.

Nice dark brown pour, light tan head. Aroma has some light roast, raisins, vanilla, oak, and cocoa. Flavor is a bit sweet, some oak, a little try on the finish, some molasses and roasted malt. Interesting brew!
