COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Stone Imperial Russian Stout is so thick, rich and well, sinful, you might worry that youíll be doomed to the fiery pits just for thinking about a sip. It almsot seems evil. Rest assured, however, that even though this seemingly pernicious brew is indeed as black as sin, we guarantee that no actual sin was committed in itís production...youíll have to add that on your own. This Odd Year addition was brewed in the authentic, historical style of an imperial russian stout, but with the addition of several hundred pounds of espresso beans from our friends at Ryan Bros. Coffee. Actually, this could be considered historically accurate, since the Russian nobility were as fond of earthy breakfast beverages as they were of hearty dark beers. Catherine the Great herself bolstered her finesse for ruling an empire by drinking five cups of black coffee every morning during her lengthy reign. While we couldnít fit five cups coffee in every bottle of this darkly delicious libation, we assure you that the deep, rich espresso flavors are unmistakable and meld beautifully with the roasty bitterness of the dark malts. Catherine would have whole-heartedly approved.

Poured deep dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma of dark chocolate, dark fruit, fudge and coffee. Full body, flavour as the aroma, smooth and lightly roasted.

Pitch black color. Nuce tan head. Beautiful coffee aroma. Subtle, but very nice coffee flavor. Good finish.

Of course quality stuff as usual from Stone, but the aroma was a bit weak. Was from 2013 though. Chocolate is perfect with this.

Bomber 2013- poured into a snifter, inky black and a four finger frothy beige head. Nose- only faint coffee in the nose which is surprising, predominately sweet milk chocolate nose. Taste- much more espresso coming through in taste and actually has a fairly bitter finish between the coffee beans and the hopping. Not too sweet, has nice dark fudge quality with a slight acidity to it. Medium bodied, not cloying at all. very sold.

Voilŗ! A very very very big bottle at Oliver Twwwwwwwwissssst, Ssssssstockolm. Pours cloudy very dark brown with small tan head. Dark aroma of coffee, malt, nuts and roast. Sweeti flavour of caramel malt, chocolate and coffee, with notes of roast. Lingering, sweetish and roasty aftertaste. Very very very good. Yum yum! (If only it was just a little cheaper...)

0.65l bottle brought home from Top Shop. Oh my. This is like pouring jet black motor oil into a glass. As black as they get really and it has a really good looking medium sized what you could call super-lacing dark brown head. Oh my this smells good. Super roasted and dark with a heavy dark caramel and vanilla sweetness. Oh, this is how a imp stout hold smell! Iím surprised how much vanilla I get in this one. Was expecting a strong punchy espresso kick, and by all means itís there, but that vanilla sweetness? Just amazing. Strong dark chocolate malts with fudge, brownies and that chocolate syrup you get on bottles meant for pouring on ice cream. Lovely lovely. Itís much more coffee concentrated and roasted in the taste. Was almost expecting something sweet based on the nose but itís definitely not to sweet. Really roasted and really dark roasted. In the mouth itís what you can describe as oily and itís just about average on the bubbles. A bit to big bubbled for a fill mouthfeel score but itís not far off. As mentioned itís really roasted and dark this. I would not perhaps identify it as espresso bits definitely coffee flavored. Dark muscovado sugars and a rum-like boozyness just gives it an extra dimension to all that strong and roasted flavors. This is world class imperial stout. It ends with wet salty rocks soaked in licorice powder and traces of cocoa powder. Amazing. 28.03.2014
