3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A cool brew. Thanks Vinnie. Nose is chocolate, light roast, lots of rye, some vanilla, tons of earthy walnut/pecan notes. A lot going on there. Flavor is bold with all of the mentioned flavors but more rye and pecan. Iím not a fan of nut beers (nut browns, etc.) but this was nice. My only complaint is that there was possible too much going on. That big abv went unnoticed though.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pine Box, Brooklyn tap: Pours black with a brownish head (I didnít really get to see it on mine because it was filled to the brim). Aroma is a dozen things all mixed up with one another: bourbon, chocolate, rye, coffee, and nuts, and more stuff. Taste is sweet, burned, whiskey with rye bread and chocolate. Perhaps there be too much stuff going on. This was a little underwhelming following the biscotti break that I had an hour previous.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Courtesy of ThirstyBird. Thx! 65 cl. bottle sampled @ RBBSG II. Nice label (regular edition). Pours a blackish brown with almost no head. Smell is thick chocolate, light alcohol, very sweet and heavy on brown sugar, sticky, vanilla, very sweet coffee, very light roast. Taste is slightly bitter upfront, sweet syrup, chocolate syrup, rye, sticky maple syrup, brown sugar, sweet coffee, vanilla, there is very little bourbon to be found here. Some sweet pecans in the finish. Rick, very full body, slightly sticky. It is a very nice beer but all of these ingredients donít really add up, it is very muffled and muted, bourbon is largely hidden, bourbon is obscured etc. Everything overpowered everything else and the whole just became sort of muted, still very solid never the less.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle. Black pour with a tan head. The aroma is full of chocolate and roasted malt. The flavor is more complex. I get a lot of oak and chocolate notes as well as some roasted malt, rum and dark fruit. Thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Bottle. Nutty coffee, vanilla, boozy bourbon and rye malt aroma. Dark brown with minimal head. Sweet vanilla, dark chocolate, rye malt, and bourbon flavor. A bit boozy but nice.

Wow, at 13%, this will be Doc Lockís finale for a Saturday, even with his elite hepatocytes, renal tubules, and ureter. Bomber from Caponeís ad Craft Ale. Pours turbid black with minimal tan head and huge opacity even through direct light. Nose is molasses, rye, oaky bourbon, roasty choc/patent malts, cacao, walnut, blackberry, Wheaties. Tastes of roasty choc malt, with rye, walnut, big hops, molasses, mild anise, and a charred, hoppy finish, this one is huge in the palate density scale, and pairs great with the CAO maduro cigar I am smoking. As an aside, I think Picard would win the battle with Kirk, but until we get a good simulation, that question may never be answered. At any rate, this is a beer for beer connoisseurs, as I imagine it would knock the socks (and olfactory membranes and papillae) off lightweights. Number 1, prepare my sleeping chambers, and fetch me an Earl Grey tea; hot!

beer aged in whiskey barrels are touch and go for me. Some have too strong of a bourbon flavor..This is one of them. Itís a good beer, but just not my cup of tea. Worth a try if you like this style.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
From a bottle into a snifter, pours a think dark velvety black with a khaki head. Smell is oaky, nutty and fudge. Taste is nice bourbon, chocolate with a nice nuttiness and vanilla and as it warms the roasty coffee flavors stick out. Very interesting, stone continues to brew some of the best beer out there. Very good beer.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: AUG 11, 2013 Bottle to snifter. dark syrupy pour with a thin dark khaki head. Sweet malty Nose, oak sweetness, and some faint bourbon. Nice Aroma. Taste is sweet and fudgy with lots of roasted malt characteristics. Lots of nuttiness, and the finish is dominated by booze and a bourbon heat aftertaste. Interesting beer.
