Bottle from Princetons, Big malty aromas with some sweet wheat, light nuttiness and a bit of bourbon. Taste is a bit too sweet, some pecan in finish.

UPDATED: APR 18, 2014 What a stupid name for a beer. Interesting flavor profile with a sort of carnival roasted pecan thing going on but also a good load of rye spiciness. The big problem is that this beer doesnít hide its alcohol content well, the nose is really boozy (like sniffing liquor) and the taste also has that same problem. Cool enough beer to share, but my god do I regret opening this alone.

Poured into a tulip glass. A half finger of head on a pitch black body. The aroma is vanilla, pecan pie, woody and boozy. The taste is smooth and creamy. A little vanilla, burnt wood and alcohol heat. Itís put together nicely. The texture is soft with low carbonation. A very drinkable beer at the 13% level, but it still retained the boozy notes.

651 ml. bottle. Pours a medium, tiny bubbled, well retained, mocha head, with some lacing, over a dark brown black (SRM 45) body....nose is roasted malts coffee, chocolate, dark fruits, raisin, plum, hints of treacle, vanilla, light Bourbon.......taste is very sweet, with roasted malts adding coffee, chocolate, the barrel hints of Bourbon, vanilla tones, dark fruits including raisin, plum, nuts (pecans come through in the burps) leading to a light hop spice bitterness.....mouth feel thick, rich, sticky, minimal alcohol present, carbonation adds to the creaminess of overall feel. This is a remarkably complex beer. The hops (for this palate) are a bit muted, but not missed. The sweet malts, adjuncts, dominate the hops over much. This is one to put away for a long time and taste what vinous qualities come out, in the hopes that the overwhelming sweetness mellows out. BJCP 8/3/10/5/6

Good beer, but a little over-aged, which is surprising considering that only a quarter of it was aged. The Rye notes are present in the aroma but disappear on the palate under an immense oak and bourbon quality. It is a shame, as wheat and Rye really could have added a lot to this beer and they are lost amid the overwhelming oak and bourbon.

10 oz snifter at World of Beer. This is a massive beer. Slow sipping this one is the only course of action. The flavor is very rich and complex. Layered notes of vanilla, dark chocolate, dark fruits and tobacco encompass my palate. Thereís a bit of alcohol heat to the flavor, but itís merely warming and is welcome. The finish is near eternal dropping coconut hints in with the malty deluge.

On tap at the Tin Bucket. Pours a pure black color with a small beige head. A huge roasted nose with metallic notes, ash and heat. A big roasted flavor with plenty of heat, cocoa, ash and charred wood, some burnt toffee. I guess the rye shines a bit. Itís so big that it is hard to pick out flavors at times. Viscous. Quite nice though.

Sampled this at Campground Brewdown 2. Pours a deep black with a thin to medium sized tan head. Soft cocoa, roast, cocoa, vanilla. Medium-bodied, chocolate, roast, cocoa, long chocolate moving into soft vanilla with some wood tones.

Draft to snifter. Looks good; a mostly opaque dark cola with tan head that dissipates into lacing. Smells solid; dark malt, chocolate, and oak with some nuttiness with a bit of bourbon. Tastes like it smells with a good mouthfeel. Enjoyable.

A vigorous pour into my Sierra Nevada IPA glass produces a fat, two-finger thick, brown tinged, dark tan colored head. The beer is simply black and opaque. The aroma has an ample nutty character to it, lots of smooth roasted character, big toasted brown / whole grain bread notes, and a touch of vanilla that rounds things out, plus a finish that has some grain spiciness and alcohol heat to it. Between the nut notes and the roast malt character there is a savory, almost smoky note to the nose. This has a rich coffee aromatic like note to it, dark chocolate liquor like notes, and perhaps a touch of roasted molasses.

Thick, rich, sweet up front, and quite chewy, this beer is certainly a meal in a glass. Rich, roasted nut flavors combine with burnt brown sugar, chewy toasted brown bread, and savory, dense dark malt character that adds a sort of smokiness to this beer. The finish has a kick of alcohol to it, as well as a softly astringent woodiness, and even has some spicy wood notes as well as a signature Bourbon like note. Rich coffee notes, bitter dark chocolate, pine like hop notes, and some tongue numbing hop notes as well. Concentrated, smooth chocolate notes with a deeply roasted caramelized edge, burnt brown sugar coated pecans, savory roasted rye grain, and black, roasted alcohol soaked, dark cake.

Despite being a little hot, this beer hides the 13% abv pretty well. I really like the mix of savory, roasted, nuttiness, hint of barrel, and sweet notes that this beer manages to meld together quite well. Definitely nice.
