Draft - Bourbon, dark malts, vanilla and I think I get the pecans. Jet black with a decent brown head. Bourbon and vanilla is prominent, with a bit of booze, but all in harmony. Nice beer.

22-oz. bomber. Pours a deep black with ruby highlights. Slightly nutty pecan aroma with cinnamon. Very boozy, spiced taste of roasted nuts, dark rye, cinnamon, brown sugar, with some black licorice, and a bitter woody finish. Very layered taste; you need to let it warm up. Medium body; long, dry, spiced finish.

Aroma is balanced with quite a bold nuttiness. some moderate rye and wheat notes with a light, sweet bourbon finish. light fruit esters, moderate chocolate and light roast. Light coconut notes as it warms. Not much alcohol in the nose. Pours dark brown, almost black with a thin dark tan head that quickly recedes to the edges. Light lacing with fairly long legs. Flavor is definitely but forward with a lot of pecan character and a solid amount of rye. Moderate chocolate notes with light roast. Slightly fruity with moderate bitterness. Medium light alcohol spice in the finish with a light rye note. Finish has rye, chocolate, alcohol spice, and a light fruit note. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and silky with medium low carbonation. Low astringency and medium alcohol warmth. Finish is fairly sticky sweet and lingers on your lips. Overall an alright beer, but the sweetness and pecans don’t balance. There needs to be more of a roast note. The beer could use more body to balance the sweetness and nuttiness.

Dark chocolate body, with layers of rolled cream chocolate head. A farkin’ good lookin’ beer. An olfactory string symphony of oak, vanilla, and chocolate all wonderfully blended, yet understated. Body is creamy, candied, and boozy, but by no means over the top. Sweet and oaky with ripples of vanilla. A nice candidate for bottle-aging. Further attenuation and drying out will take this one to the next level and help balance it out better.

Pours a deep black/brown with a light tan head. Smell is roasted malt and a light fruitiness, with some faint wood in the background. Taste is chocolatier than I was expecting, again with some fruitiness, though it gives way to flavors of toast and oak. Slight vanilla feel in the finish. A nutty sensation is present throughout. This is actually pretty darn good, but there’s some heat to it that I hope will fade with age.

Bottle into a tulip. ruby brown on the head. Pitch black body. Quite complex, but wasn’t a complete knockout stout for me.

22 oz. bottle shared between my wife and I. Pours dark brown black little oily and shows a thin tight foamy khaki head that fades to a thin film and collar that leaves a coating lacing. Aroma is slightly sweet and fruity with plum, raisin and cotton candy. Taste is bitter sweet with cotton candy fruit and candied vanilla some bourbon, whiskey and roasted malt and yeast and spice along with a warming finish. Palate is full slick and sticky with a warming dry finish. Enjoyable, but the alcohol really shows and can be a bit much.

Very understated, soft and smooth, Increasing bitter towards finish. Warming....remarkably subtle for a 13% ABV.. Outstanding.

Bottle poured deep black cola with a medium tan head and notable lacing. Aroma is soy sauce, vanilla, roasted nuts, slight booziness, and dark chocolate. Taste begins with big malt and bourbon flavors followed by dark fruit, bakers chocolate, and subtle hop bitterness leading to a warming on the finish. Relatively smooth despite ABV, would have liked to get more pecan, but overall enjoyable.

Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA - but as a share by beerboxer. Pours very dark brown/black with a slight tan head. Aroma is malty and a bit winey. Flavor is chocolate, treacle, wine/rum with hints of oak sour. Kind of missing the bourbon I guess, but it’s packed with lots of flavors. Even hints of oaky sour astringency. Did not even notice the heat. Great ale.
