3.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Stone never disappoints me....cool bottle, got a limited release bottle which is cool. As for the beer, its strong, coming out hot, can’t really taste the alcohol but i would describe the flavor as sharp. Real intense/complex beer.
As for the flavor, getting sort of a nutty chocolate vibe, bitter aftertaste, hints of coffee as well. Really intense stout, a definite sipper, lives up to the imperial billing. Does taste barrel aged, I bet this thing would be even better 6 months out.

No retention and good lacing. Smells of molasses, brown sugar, pecan and caramel. Tastes of pecan, molasses, roasted malts and caramel. Strong molasses finish. Not a fan to be honest.

Bottle, graciously sent by JohnGalt1. Thanks man! I’ve been waiting to dive into this for a few months now; tonight is the night. A tidy pour into my favorite goblet yields a dark brown body topped with a creamy finger of brown head. Nose is lightly sweet, with the hoppy & roasty backbone I’ve come to know and love from a Stone IRS. Light barrel notes; it does smell potent. Really really creamy and silky mouthful… very nice. Light bourbon notes and faint rye come in strong. Nice roast and espresso flavors and an earthy hoppy vibe. I can’t pick up the pecans, but hell it’s been so long since I had one I might never notice… overall a pretty solid offering and fun concept.

At 2014 Most Arrogant Bar Bash (Barleys in Greenvillle, SC).
Pours black and opaque, with a very good tan head. Red-brown edges.
Lightly sweet; flavor builds and builds to a strong finish and aftertaste; Light boozy; low (a bit too low) carbonation; warming.

Kinda meh. This is only one of a very few missteps from Stone in my humble opinion.

Very sweet slightly spicey IRS. Flavours have still not melded fully and it is quite hot. Wondering if the Pecan gives this a slightly unusual flavour. Solid stuff.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle that Mes & Sim brought along to share at Merton Beer Festival, big thanks! Shared with Thomas, Fin, Loz etc Friday 28th February 2014 . Pours black not too much of a head. This has a wonderfully silky mouthfell it is creamy, really nice texture, bit creamy and somewhat indulgent. A thin seam of vanilla gives way to bitter chocolate and some cappucino. The aroma is both fruity and also chocolatey. Despite the smoothness and chocolate there is a light burnt charcoal and roastiness within this. Great beer, many thanks to Mes & Sim A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.9

On draught at Apex. Pitch black with dark tannish brown head. Aroma is pecan, rye, whiskey, toffee, and maple syrup. Taste is dark chocolate, cherry, rye, pecan pie, and lightly bitter hops. Sticky sweet viscous mouthfeel. Nutty, sweet finish.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
My Bottom Line:
This heavy Imperial Stout develops plenty of chocolate and molasses flavors alongside brown sugar connotations before plunging into alcohol burn and moderate hop bitterness.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam skirts the darkness.
-Bourbon remains well integrated into the flavor profile.
-Alcohol presence is too much to my liking.
-This remains a very competent dessert brew for those with a sweet tooth.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
8 or 10 oz. pour, on tap at Groveland Tap. Pours a chocolate-y, almost purple dark brown. Small to moderate amount of long-lasting taupe head. Chocolate and plum scents in an otherwise dry aroma. Sweet, syrupy taste. Maple syrup and brown sugar flavors. Boozy and hot taste: Cheap vodka or rum. Grape, even brandy flavors. Bitter and dry aftertaste. Full body. I tasted this at 2013 Autumn Brew Review and really liked it, but this time it was not nearly as good as I remembered (and not just because I consumed a larger amount; I was disappointed from the get-go). Bad value for an over-the-top imperial stout. Aging is required to mellow this beer out.
