4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at Taco Mac. Pours deep walnut with mocha head which dissipated fairly quickly. There is little lacing. Malty Roma with the sweetness of bourbon (but actually fairly subtle) along with oak and cherries. Taste is sweet with the bourbon flavor more pronounced than in the aroma, yet not overwhelming. Oak and dark fruit permeate as well. Full bodied with an oily, slick mouthfeel and low carbo. Overall, really nice beer - bourbon barrel aged, but the bourbon only plays a supporting role here - although becomes more pronounced as the beer warms. Abv of 13 percent is well hidden, but warms you up!

Sampled at esbls. A rich and black pour. No foam. This is really sweet. All kinds of grains. Only a littlevroasted notes. Soft hops might be noble with citrus. No carbonation.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz bottle courtesy of Dan, served in a stem glass. Pours deep chestnut with a moderate tan head that fades slowly to a thin cover and leaves a small amount of fine lace. On the nose, there are big notes of roasted malts, dry malts and charcoal, along with peppery, piney hops. The flavour is balanced between chocolatey, toasty malts on the one hand and spicy, peppery, hoppy notes on the other. Hoppy notes pick up towards the end, with roasty malt notes and a slight pepperiness. On the palate, it is medium-full in body with a milky-creamy texture and soft carbonation. Overall this is a nice stout, but somehow disappointing. It could have been a bit more complex. 2013-11-07

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: Black, small foamy beige head, little lacing. Roasted malt nose, hazelnuts, soft dark pitted fruit. Smooth on the tongue, roasty, soft nuttiness, some dark chocolate, touch of apple skin and dark pitted fruit. Solid, but nothing extraordinary. Feels very warming too @ 13%. Smooth, but body and mouthfeel are somewhat moderate. Clean, solid stout, nothing to write home about, but one that would work in a pinch if you wanted a softly hopped Imperial Stout.

Tap at Baileys Taproom, Portland. Colour is almost black with slightly brownish white head. Aromas and flavours: Some sweetness, hints of vanilla, chocolate, hints of bourbon and roasted malts. Alcohol is well hidden. Sorry but getting little bit of bored on these bourbon imps. Maybe better points after couple of months.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: DEC 12, 2013 Tap at BD Shepherds Bush. Pours black with a medium khaki head leaving very sticky lacing. Nose is loaded with vanilla and nutty undertones, very balanced milk chocolate with piney hops. Taste is heavy on vanilla and milk chocolate, mildy bitter cocoa focus, grass, wood and honey. Nuttiness all the way through the palate which works. Sweet but balanced nicely. Hidden ABV is superb. Very nice stuff

Tap at The Jeffrey, seriously no wonder I was drunk upon leaving finally seeing the abv on these puppies. Pours black with nose of coffee and some spicing. Tastes of licorice, figs, plums, coffee, vanilla, bourbon, bitter dark chocolate, and caramel. pretty nice

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at BrewDog Manchester. Dark with tan foam and some lacing. Aroma already smells sticky before it’s even on the tongue. Thick, rich, warming, indulgant taste with plenty of toffee and rye spice. The barrel seemed to enhance rather than overpower. Couldn’t pick up any pecan, but I love what the extra grains bring to this one. Great stuff.

Keg at Brewdog Shep Bush. It pours a deep brown, almost black, colour with a medium tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, nuts, cocoa, vanilla, wood, whiskey, and alcohol. Taste of char, roast, vanilla, wood, bourbon, nuts, and alcohol in the finish. Good

3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured into a tall Tulip glass.
Poured dark brown almost black with a tan head that dissipated quickly. Lacing was decent.
The nose had hints of wood, soy sauce and chocolate.
Tongue feel was medium to full bodied with a light fizz.
Tastes were hot and boozy probably from the bourbon barrels.

Keg at Brewdog Brum. Black. Unbelievably smooth for the strength. Proper chest warmer. Smells rich. Tastes like delicious oil. Yummy.
