Smells like charred malt, coffee, faint vanilla and dark fruits. Tastes like dark chocolate, coffee roasted malt, some faint vanilla and coconut and perhaps some nuttiness. Getting faint whiffs of bourbon and some toffee and caramel characteristics from the barrel aging. Jut adds complexity without boozniess of a full barrel stout. Really nice, pretty smooth and rich mouthfeel. Overall this beer is a win. Interesting and quite tasty, worth every penny of $7.99. ---Rated via my tastebuds and my brain.

22oz bottle shared by Chalumeaux. Thanks, TJ! Pours dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is dark chocolate, pecan, bourbon. Nice. Flavor is dark chocolate, pecan, mild bourbon.

Bottle thanks to Andy. 2.0. Dark wooty pour. Brown head, okay retention. Aroma: roasted nuts and chocolate. Caramel and alcohol. Coconut. Sweet, rich, a little oxidation. Full body, slick syrupy texture. Overall: fun intense w00tbrew.

Poured from bottle dated 6/13/15 dark black pour with a nice cocoa head and nice lacing. Aromas of dark chocolate coffee vanilla and hint of alcohol. Taste is smooth and creamy chocolate coffe vanilla and notes of bourbon. Wow nice beer.

Big bottle in Portland, OR. Nose is chocolate, caramel and sweet anice. Taste is dark fruits, anice, caramel and malts. Really nice and creamy. Sweet, plummy finish with creamy texture. Good stuff. Absurdly high ABV well-hidden.

The basic concept of aroma, taste and body was excellent. But I donít want or need 13% ABV to enjoy a brew! Rather have two 6% brews than this!

22oz bottle from Windsor Hy-Vee, 2016 vintage, in a Sam Smith pint glass. Aromas of milk chocolate, caramel, brown sugar, bourbon and candied fruit. Pours oily black with two fingers of pillowy brown head that dissipates quickly to a thin layer. Surprisingly little carbonation after the pour. Strong flavors of caramel, molasses and maybe even burnt sugar right up front, persisting throughout as notes of vanilla, bourbon and chocolate come and go intermittently in interesting and variable combinations with each sip. Medium-to-full bodied, itís drinkable enough but the syrupy qualities that can make a beer oppressively heavy are recognizable. A little more CO≤ or even a shot of nitro would only improve the balance and depth of the brew. Lightly mouth-coating and sweet. Not astringent. Not a bad stout by any measure! But at the same time, not the ideal flavor profile for me. Bourbon, molasses and caramel really dominate here, and if pecan praline takes you back to your southern upbringing, itís here in spades. Personally, Iíd rather have another glass of that fantastic 20th Anniversary Bitter Chocolate that Stone was bottling last year. A toast to many more fine stouts from Stone!

Tap. Not much of a head, nearly black dense body. Cocoa powder, brown sugar sweetness, dark fruit, and malted milk aromas. Flavor is more bitter with dark chocolate, touch boozy and bourbon, some vanilla, dark fruit and residual sugars. Thicker viscous body and warming.

2016 - a bit young & boozie, but quite nice. Pours a black opaque with a tar colored head that has a fair retention; although, lacings hang on the glass throughout the pour. The nose is roast & chocolate with a subtlety of bourbon. There is a hint of sourness, but it could be my nose at the moment. The flavor is full and rich with roast, chocolate and I can faintly make out the pea cans ..... the wheat certainly adds some nice body and gives it a clean roasted flavor. The dummies will like it, but it is not well balanced. This thing is an oily mess; an oil slick. I want to like it, but I canít do it. I donít even know why it is unappealing, but it is. 220z bottle
