On tap at Stone Company Store in Oceanside. Deep black with mahogany edges and a light ring of lacing. Nice aroma of smoked pecan, chocolate malt and anise. Robust flavor of chocolate, smoke, licorice and the pecan shows through a bit. Warming character of alcohol and oak that shows off the minor Bourbon influence. Ass-kicker of a beer at the ABV

Dark brown pour with a dark khaki head with great legs on the glass. Aroma is toasted pecan sweetness, anise, roasted malt, chocolate liquor, and roast. Taste follows with a bit of heat from the booze. Tasty stuff.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pint glass and a snifter. The appearance was a nice looking black color with a one finger white to off white foamy head that dissipated within about a good minute before leaving some nice looking foamy lacing trying to stick to the sides of the glass. The smell had a wheaty/grainy like aroma over top of a light vanilla/chocolate coating some nuts here and there. The taste took all of those previously mentioned flavors and combined to enrich a nice subtle sweet nutty flavoring encapsulating my taste buds. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with not much of a sessionability about it. The carbonation seemed to be fairly smooth and velvety as just seemed to round out all of the flavors. Overall, wow, what a nice mesmerizing beer well worth my time and money.

22oz bomber. About 1.5 years old, aged. Heavy pour, very viscous, black with a tan head. Whisky is apparent in the taste and a bit in the aroma as well, which is rich and well-developed. Taste is also complex, with the bitter chocolate, and the toast getting the most attention. Well-d0ne!

This is definitely a stout for people who like sweet stouts. Heavily pecan-scented and smooth -- almost too smooth, given the high alcohol content. It’s very easy to drink this beer too quickly, so be careful.

Poured from bottle from cellar (2013 bottle). Pours a very dark black with minimal light brown head. I’m a bit stuffy right now so I’ll give aromas and flavors best I can - aromas of dark fruity esters, caramel, chocolate. You can really taste the bourbon barrel and get hints of vanilla, caramel, coffee, and at 13% alcohol it is surprisingly un-hot on the throat, but you can certainly feel it in your stomach. Carbonation level is very lively, with lots of small prickly bubbles on the palate and a very oily, thick, mouthfeel.

Pours a dark black with beige head. Nose is fruity nutty and roast coffee. Taste is roast nuts, coffee, light bourbon and sweet brown sugar. There is a bit of a sweet sticky aftertaste.
