UPDATED: APR 18, 2014 What a stupid name for a beer. Interesting flavor profile with a sort of carnival roasted pecan thing going on but also a good load of rye spiciness. The big problem is that this beer doesn’t hide its alcohol content well, the nose is really boozy (like sniffing liquor) and the taste also has that same problem. Cool enough beer to share, but my god do I regret opening this alone.

In tap art Ron’s Tavern. Pours black with a medium dark tan head. The aromas are dark chocolate, roasted coffee, bourbon. The mouthfeel is dry and bitter with a heavy body and medium carbonation. Great beer! Cheers!

Bottle 22oz $10 2015 drank fresh): Black with tan head that disappeared quickly. Aroma sweet roasted malts with some bourbon. Taste some chocolate. Kind of syrupy. light carbonation full body. Not sure where the pecans come in. Some alcohol burn in the end. Good

22 ounce bottle purchased at Nugget in Woodland, CA. Aroma is fairly straight forward with some cocoa powder, light roastiness, and a little bit of anise. Opaque black body with a medium to large light brown foamy head. Starts with a sweet, sugary, chocolate flavoring. Becomes fairly metallic in the middle with a lot of tinny character. Finishes with a bit of an ethanol burn. Kind of sticky, almost as if there is a little diacetyl here, too. I suppose that could be the pecans creating that flavor, however. Regardless, this is decent.

Bottle thanks to jheath99. Pours opaque black with tan head. Aroma is chocolate, roast, earthy notes, oak, faint vanilla, dark fruit notes, and spicy booze notes. Flavor is dry and roasty with rich dark chocolate, light espresso, oak, black licorice, and faint oak and booze. Full, creamy body.

650 ml. bottled 06/27/15. Pours deep brown-black with a smattering of bubbles. Nose is chocolate, soy and touches of char, citrus and green herb. Tastes of the same. None too complex for such a big beer, but hides the 13% very well. Medium-heavy body is well balanced and has medium-high carbonation.

2015 bottle WootStout.. Picked up at the Boise COOP... Pours standard black with a very thin dark brown head... absolutely no lacing or cap. Boozy mash-up of bourbon, light roast malts for a RIS, interesting nutty and dry toffee component.. toasted marshmallow.. bittersweet chocolate with warmth and something that I associate with cinnamon. There are soooo many different flavors/adjuncts that are in this fresh.. It actually works even given the heavy ABV... Will it work better with age? I have no idea... but I am amazed how well it drinks fresh.

2015. Pours an inky black with a decent sized creamy mocha brown head that settles to a thicker ring and leaves some spotty lace. Nose involves plenty of chocolate and nuts, hints of bourbon, some leafy herbal hops, marshmallow, raisin, candied orange, and some alc vapors. Really sweet, fairly bitter. Full bodied but not super-thick, quite oily, fairly active, rich, finishing dry and toasty with bitterness. An approachable beast.

Mild aroma, some roast malt, raisin, and strawberry. Appears opaque dark roast coffee with tan head. Taste starts out dark roast malt, fades into chocolate, then fades into a mild toffee marshmellow. Palate is fizzy and light. Overall, very good.
