From the most unlikely yet intensely imaginative trio that is actor and uber-geek champion Wil Wheaton, alternative news website Fark.com creator Drew Curtis and Stone CEO/Co-founder Greg Koch, comes an imperial stout unlike any ever made. Brewed with rye, wheat malt and pecans and partially aged in Bourbon whiskey barrels, this viscous yet silken brew erupts with an oaky, nutty bouquet and rich flavors of vanilla, toast and bitter chocolate. Enjoy now or cellar this celebration of nth degree passion and geekery applied most gracefully to the craft of brewing and collaboration-Drew Curtis/Wil Wheaton/Greg Koch Stone Farking Wheaton w00tstout!

UPDATED: APR 18, 2014 What a stupid name for a beer. Interesting flavor profile with a sort of carnival roasted pecan thing going on but also a good load of rye spiciness. The big problem is that this beer doesn’t hide its alcohol content well, the nose is really boozy (like sniffing liquor) and the taste also has that same problem. Cool enough beer to share, but my god do I regret opening this alone.

Imperial Stout? 13% d’alcool? Vraiment?

(Rating #5993)

This is w00tstout 1.0, purchased at the brewery at release in July 2013 ($8.95). Have had on draft a number of times, but this rating based on the almost 1.5-year-old bottle. Pours a thick dark brown but basically black hue with a half finger of quite dark brown cafe mocha colored head. AROMA of sweet-ish bourbon, campfire roasted marshmallow, smoky roasted malts, thick vanilla, and brown sugar. FLAVOR of nutty bourbon, mellow dark malts, dark toffee, some port-like characteristics (sticky candied plum), cocoa powder-dashed pecan, butterscotch, molasses, and some dark chocolate. Vaguely sweet and full bodied with a thick mouthfeel. Has nice bourbon characteristics even though only a quarter was barrel aged. Some burn near the finish, but otherwise the really big 13% is nicely toned down...perhaps the year-plus of aging helped there. Was a pleasure on draft, but I kinda prefer this aged bottle. 2013 vintage. Robust, sweet, sticky and warm. Black body with tiny skin of a beige head. Aroma is roast grain and nuts and enough alcohol to send the nose twitching. Taste comes on strong, with plenty of alcohol warmth. Best sipped, allowing it to warm, and the flavors to emerge.

Bottle from Corvallis cellar sale. A: Pure black body with a fluffy fading cappuccino head. Lacing. N: Licorice, star anise, pecan, cocoa, coconut, coffee, char, and some vanilla. Toast and smoke. Peppercorn and rye. Hint of oak and maybe cola. T: Very sweet and bigly bitter. M: Very thick and even treacly. Alcohol is potent. Tingling carbonation. O: Stone IRS with oomph. Flavorful and complex, but not over the top sweet.

bottle @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Opaque brown/black color, thin brown rim head, streaks and dots of lace. Aroma of nutty malt and bourbon. Taste is huge, thick, syrupy, dark fruit infused toffee malt that can’t possibly grow any bigger as it moves through the palate, turning slightly bitter in an alcohol warmed finish. So big, it can only be sipped, and I can only enjoy it in small doses. Impressive.

22oz bottle, from Summer of 2013. Very dark pour. Malty chocolate nose with faint Bourbon. Robust flavors, yet well blended. Malts, Bread, Berries, Bourbon, with some licorice in the background. Well blended with a chewy palate. Hot boozy finish. One big beer!

Black pout with a thin espresso head. Aroma is full of wood. Taste is fully of wood, slightly sour. Super full mouth. Taste has a little rubbing alcohol quality. Dark chocolate, roast and alcohol. Lace present. Bitter finish and hints of caramel.

Had a bottle at Stone Liberty Station in San Diego thanks to a guy named Phil. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is malty and sweet caramel. Beautiful. Chocolate. Fairly sweet. Lots of dark chocolate. Really sweet but really aMazing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
