COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
It’s no secret we helped create and popularize West Coast style IPAs (since 1997), Double IPAs (since 2000) & Triple IPAs (since 2006). In fact, IPAs of every ilk imaginable are our bread and (hop) butter at Stone Brewing Co., but we’ll be the first to admit that a night of subsisting solely on big IPAs can be a short one. Enter Stone Go To IPA, our session IPA, boasting all the gloriously bitter, citrusy, piney flavor of our bigger / industrial-strength IPAs, but with a significantly lower alcohol-by-volume (4.5%) allowing IPA fans like us to enjoy more of this amazingly, hoppy beer over a longer session, without giving up any of that gloriously crave-able botanically-driven dankness. Well, OK, when you compare to our bigger IPAs you find that you give up some, as that’s what happens when you dramatically lower the abv. And while we work hard to bend the time/space/abv intensity continuum, we’ve admittedly not yet learned to break it. This comes damn close though.

On tap at brewpub. Ale is golden with a short lived white head Aroma is grapefruit, mandarin, orange, tangerine and lemon. Flavor is grapefruit, lemon, orange and tangerine. Finish is light fruity bitterness, aromatic, some honey melon and cantaloupe. Light to medium body, strong carbonation. Solid!

This beer really turned me on to sessions. Surprisingly malty with a killer hop profile. Really juicy while staying light and refreshing

16 oz. can. Bright light golden color with a taller, slightly diminishing white head. Strong hops aromas, with citrus, resin and light pine. Some hints of dough and lightly toasted white bread. Feel is thicker than I’ve expected, but the flavors come off a bit thinner. Akin to what I refer to top tea. Decent hop flavors, but lacking in the malt depth to back it up.

355ml bottle into shaker. Mild citric hop nose. Hazy yellow beer with thin white clingy head. Laces well. Light body, nothing seems to be happening then....a long earthy bitter lemon finish kicks in. There’s late grain and pepper too. Really easy drinking (I’ve finished it already) yet complex as well. A bit too light in body to be great but really good.

33 cl bottle from systembolaget. Pours hazy golden with big head. Floral hoppy hoppy aroma with loads of citrus and hoppy taste.

It’s really good, but I still have a bit of a problem with the notion of a session IPA. Aroma is dominated by resin. Flavor’s likewise with some spice, fairly dry, some tang. Body seems perhaps a tad thin.

Bottle from Brewdog. Pours a clear amber with clean white head, light to medium carbonation and good lacing. Aroma is lovely for the ABV. Pineapple, grapefruit, pine, bready malts and lime. Taste has initial sweetness and then a decent bitter finish. Good body for its ABV. All in all an impressive session IPA that packs a lot in for its strength.

Gold. Piney grapefruit nose. Herbal. Flavor is more pine and grapefruit with grainy malt. Lingering grapefruit.

Bottled, 355ml from Beer Hawk of Harrogate, N.Yorks, many thanks to Derek & Kelsey. Beautiful gold with white head. There is a tangy nose to this, grapefruit bitterness from the off, sharp and fresh. Oily grapefruit skin with a grassy character. Refreshing throughout. Consumed whilst watching England vs Slovakia. Very decent.
