It’s no secret we helped create and popularize West Coast style IPAs (since 1997), Double IPAs (since 2000) & Triple IPAs (since 2006). In fact, IPAs of every ilk imaginable are our bread and (hop) butter at Stone Brewing Co., but we’ll be the first to admit that a night of subsisting solely on big IPAs can be a short one. Enter Stone Go To IPA, our session IPA, boasting all the gloriously bitter, citrusy, piney flavor of our bigger / industrial-strength IPAs, but with a significantly lower alcohol-by-volume (4.5%) allowing IPA fans like us to enjoy more of this amazingly, hoppy beer over a longer session, without giving up any of that gloriously crave-able botanically-driven dankness. Well, OK, when you compare to our bigger IPAs you find that you give up some, as that’s what happens when you dramatically lower the abv. And while we work hard to bend the time/space/abv intensity continuum, we’ve admittedly not yet learned to break it. This comes damn close though.

From tap. Pours cloudy yellow, white head. Mild citrusy and crisp hoppy aroma. Sweet impression, but crisp hoppy and citrusy dry. Bitter and light fruity finish.

Draught. Mild citric aroma. Cloudy orange colour. Big stable creamy white head. The flavour has a little vegetable to begin with. Turns more into slightly papery malts with a decent bitterness. Ok flavourful for the ABV, but I must admit I expected a bit more from this one.

Can. Cloudy golden yellow with a nice white head and ok lacing. Aroma is sweet up front. Mango, papaya, passion fruit, and tangerine. Bits of grapefruit, pine, and bread linger as well. Taste is full of citrus right away. Grapefruit, and oranges as well as some mild tropical fruit salad. Pine resin comes in to round it out and there are hints of grains as well in the finish. Light bodied, a little creamy and semi dry. Super crushable,

From a can, pours near clear golden yellow with a small off-white head. The smell is big citrus, some toasted grain. The taste is citrus, a bit of resin, toasted grain ending dry and slightly bitter. Light+ in body with somewhat active carbonation. Pretty solid out of their Berlin brewery.

(draught at BKL 2016) Hazy, golden colour with a blond mid-sized foamy head. Aroma is quite intense with loads of fruity and resiny hops, including notes of grapefruit, peaches, tangerines, as well as lighter grassy notes. Quite bitter flavour, light bodied with a well-carbonated mouthfeel. Initially delicately bready malty with an extremely present hops profile with loads of citrus, grapefruit, tangerines and lighter exotic notes; light but very tasty and hoppy finish. Truly nice. 26.II.16

On tap @ Craft & Draft. Old note. The aroma has citrus, hint of pine. Clear, copper coloured beer with a thin, white head. The taste is light-moderate bitter, has some sweet malt notes, citrus. Light bodied, more dry finish.

a hop bomb of a session IPA. The big hop presence that Stone brings to their IPAs shine through within a beer that stylistically has a lighter body. The absence of a more malty backbone allows the hops to shine through in glorious excess. Dry pine and dank citrus hoppiness drive through a very easy drinking sessionable.
