It’s no secret we helped create and popularize West Coast style IPAs (since 1997), Double IPAs (since 2000) & Triple IPAs (since 2006). In fact, IPAs of every ilk imaginable are our bread and (hop) butter at Stone Brewing Co., but we’ll be the first to admit that a night of subsisting solely on big IPAs can be a short one. Enter Stone Go To IPA, our session IPA, boasting all the gloriously bitter, citrusy, piney flavor of our bigger / industrial-strength IPAs, but with a significantly lower alcohol-by-volume (4.5%) allowing IPA fans like us to enjoy more of this amazingly, hoppy beer over a longer session, without giving up any of that gloriously crave-able botanically-driven dankness. Well, OK, when you compare to our bigger IPAs you find that you give up some, as that’s what happens when you dramatically lower the abv. And while we work hard to bend the time/space/abv intensity continuum, we’ve admittedly not yet learned to break it. This comes damn close though.

Pitcher at Zeitgeist. Pours a clear yellow with a firm white head. Nose is citrus, tropical fruits and orange. Very fruit driven nose. Taste is like a fruit juice - all those flavours coming together with a mild bitterness. Easy to slam down. Great beer for a session in a beer garden!! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Big mango and pineapple aroma. Medium mouth. Big time hop bomb. Lots of typical Stone bitterness. Long dry finish with hints of fruit rind. Resin, grass and real easy drinking. One of the better session IPA’s if you want to blow your palate out.

Bottle. Hazy gold pour with thin white head. Aroma of classic Stone hop, really dank, light onion, piney notes, grapefruit. Taste is bitter, nice honey maltiness, floral hop flavor. Palate is light but not watery, good body for a session pale. Good stuff.

Bottle: Pale golden in color, topped with a finger of creamy white head. Heavy sheet lacing. Pungent with citrus and floral hops, some tropical fruit. Hops rich taste is mild, for Stone, but flavorful. Citrus and pine, lightly floral. Sort of dusty and dry in the tail. Ok.

On draft at Isaac Newton’s. Body was a bit thin for my taste, but the brew had some nice grassy and pine flavors. It was easy to drink. Not bad.

Single bottle from Julio’s. Pours out a "grassy" light golden color with a frothy white head. Nice citrus aromas and flavor. Very nice flavor and drinkablilty - yes a - "full flavor" IPA indeed. I would rate this higher if it was priced better. I think the idea of "session" brews is that they also need to be affordable. At $12 a six-pack, this is not the case. Stone needs to take a page out of Lagunita’s book and start selling their beers at a better price.

2014/09/28 - Pours a slightly hazy yellow straw colour with a soapy white head that diminishes quickly. Aroma is citrus, floral hops, mild pine, sweet peaches and pineapple. Taste is grapefruit and citrus rind, saltiness, mild pine and mildly spicy hop notes. Mouthfeel is medium and silky with slightly biting carbonation and a long finish that is drying and moderately drying. Easy drinking with a great aroma. I just wish that the taste matched the nose a little more. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
