It’s no secret we helped create and popularize West Coast style IPAs (since 1997), Double IPAs (since 2000) & Triple IPAs (since 2006). In fact, IPAs of every ilk imaginable are our bread and (hop) butter at Stone Brewing Co., but we’ll be the first to admit that a night of subsisting solely on big IPAs can be a short one. Enter Stone Go To IPA, our session IPA, boasting all the gloriously bitter, citrusy, piney flavor of our bigger / industrial-strength IPAs, but with a significantly lower alcohol-by-volume (4.5%) allowing IPA fans like us to enjoy more of this amazingly, hoppy beer over a longer session, without giving up any of that gloriously crave-able botanically-driven dankness. Well, OK, when you compare to our bigger IPAs you find that you give up some, as that’s what happens when you dramatically lower the abv. And while we work hard to bend the time/space/abv intensity continuum, we’ve admittedly not yet learned to break it. This comes damn close though.

Hazy pale blond color. It has an impressive hop aroma: piney, hempy, musky and citrusy. Dry and lean mouthfeel, the malt flavor is light but present, strong bitterness with a resiny and citrusy character.
Definitively a go-to sIPA.

On tap at the Yard House, Houston. It pours a clear golden body and a minimal sized white head. The aroma is on the hoppy side, with lots of pine cones and a solid shot of peaches. Some grass and pale malts. There’s a nice bitterness in the mouth, with the same piney and lightly peachy touch. It’s dry and more or less full bodied and with a nice carbonation. Lasting bitter and fruity finish. A quenching and tasteful session IPA. Just like they should be. 140513

Bottle at home in Salisbury - picked up at De Cicco, Armonk. Pours crystal clear yellow-gold with a nice, frothy white head. God damn, this beer smells outrageously good. Just bursting with fresh, juicy citrus and dank piss. Light sweet flavor with minimal bitterness and a hop character that absolutely sings. Lots of pithy, clean grapefruit, some cat pee, just enough pale malt sugars to support the hops. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Super clean and fresh to finish, lightly crisp, with hints of oily resins, more pithy grapefruit, mild lemon amd tangerine, pee, some vague pine needles. Stunning. I could drink a lot of this beer.

Draught at Stone World Bistro Liberty Station, San Diego. Clear golden beer with a nice white head. Hoppy citrus aroma, pine apples, mango, oranges, grapes, passion fruit, caramel, hay, some peach. Hoppy pine apple flavor, citrus, peach, mango, raisins, floral notes. Hoppy fruity finish with citrus and pine apples. Slightly thin bodied but hugely drinkable.
