COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
It’s no secret we helped create and popularize West Coast style IPAs (since 1997), Double IPAs (since 2000) & Triple IPAs (since 2006). In fact, IPAs of every ilk imaginable are our bread and (hop) butter at Stone Brewing Co., but we’ll be the first to admit that a night of subsisting solely on big IPAs can be a short one. Enter Stone Go To IPA, our session IPA, boasting all the gloriously bitter, citrusy, piney flavor of our bigger / industrial-strength IPAs, but with a significantly lower alcohol-by-volume (4.5%) allowing IPA fans like us to enjoy more of this amazingly, hoppy beer over a longer session, without giving up any of that gloriously crave-able botanically-driven dankness. Well, OK, when you compare to our bigger IPAs you find that you give up some, as that’s what happens when you dramatically lower the abv. And while we work hard to bend the time/space/abv intensity continuum, we’ve admittedly not yet learned to break it. This comes damn close though.

Bright yellow color with a full white head - looks like a good German Pilsner. The nose turns that perception on its ear, as it is a wonderland of grapefruit, pine and resin aromas. The flavor is a bit more subdued, with strong echoes of the flavors listed above. A nice crisp mouthfeel, with a very dry finish. The only thing missing is the alcohol - otherwise, a perfect west coast IPA. Perfect for day drinking - on an aside, my pilsner-loving, craft-hating wife thought this was really good - high praise... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From a can, pours near clear golden yellow with a small off-white head. The smell is big citrus, some toasted grain. The taste is citrus, a bit of resin, toasted grain ending dry and slightly bitter. Light+ in body with somewhat active carbonation. Pretty solid out of their Berlin brewery.

(draught at BKL 2016) Hazy, golden colour with a blond mid-sized foamy head. Aroma is quite intense with loads of fruity and resiny hops, including notes of grapefruit, peaches, tangerines, as well as lighter grassy notes. Quite bitter flavour, light bodied with a well-carbonated mouthfeel. Initially delicately bready malty with an extremely present hops profile with loads of citrus, grapefruit, tangerines and lighter exotic notes; light but very tasty and hoppy finish. Truly nice. 26.II.16

On tap @ Craft & Draft. Old note. The aroma has citrus, hint of pine. Clear, copper coloured beer with a thin, white head. The taste is light-moderate bitter, has some sweet malt notes, citrus. Light bodied, more dry finish.

a hop bomb of a session IPA. The big hop presence that Stone brings to their IPAs shine through within a beer that stylistically has a lighter body. The absence of a more malty backbone allows the hops to shine through in glorious excess. Dry pine and dank citrus hoppiness drive through a very easy drinking sessionable.

341 ml bottle poured at home. Pours cloudy pale yellow with a pillowy white head. Smell is citrus fruit and pine cone. Taste is soft with a slightly bitter finish. Low carbonation. Great summer beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Taster pour at Craft Beer Race New Haven. Appearance is yellow with small head and lacing. Aroma is dank resin, citrus. Taste is as aroma. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with frothy texture, soft carbonation and bitter resin finish. Overall, strong aroma and flavor for a session IPA but West Coast Style is more bitter than I’d prefer.
