It’s no secret we helped create and popularize West Coast style IPAs (since 1997), Double IPAs (since 2000) & Triple IPAs (since 2006). In fact, IPAs of every ilk imaginable are our bread and (hop) butter at Stone Brewing Co., but we’ll be the first to admit that a night of subsisting solely on big IPAs can be a short one. Enter Stone Go To IPA, our session IPA, boasting all the gloriously bitter, citrusy, piney flavor of our bigger / industrial-strength IPAs, but with a significantly lower alcohol-by-volume (4.5%) allowing IPA fans like us to enjoy more of this amazingly, hoppy beer over a longer session, without giving up any of that gloriously crave-able botanically-driven dankness. Well, OK, when you compare to our bigger IPAs you find that you give up some, as that’s what happens when you dramatically lower the abv. And while we work hard to bend the time/space/abv intensity continuum, we’ve admittedly not yet learned to break it. This comes damn close though.

Bright yellow color with a full white head - looks like a good German Pilsner. The nose turns that perception on its ear, as it is a wonderland of grapefruit, pine and resin aromas. The flavor is a bit more subdued, with strong echoes of the flavors listed above. A nice crisp mouthfeel, with a very dry finish. The only thing missing is the alcohol - otherwise, a perfect west coast IPA. Perfect for day drinking - on an aside, my pilsner-loving, craft-hating wife thought this was really good - high praise... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Hrm. Nose is zingy with piney hops, with notes that are also tropical fruit, citrus, body odor, possibly dank but I’m not sure. Malts are very very dry and thinned out, this beer is bordering on hop water, with a lingering spice and herb bitterness at the finish. It’s alright. Pale golden color.

Taste is malt caramel with fruity, floral, hop resin notes, tropical fruit, grapefuit citrus and lingering earthy bitterness. Light bodied, soft to medium carbonation, dry fruity tangy bitter finish. Bottle to shaker glass. Pours hazy golden, nice two finger off white head. Some lacing and retention. Aroma of lemon and mango. Taste is nicely bitter, very little sweetness, just enough to balance. Light bodied, lively small bubble carbonation, resinous mouth feel. Finishes dry and bitter. Tasting notes of mango, pink grapefruit, pine and orange peel. An excellent session IPA!

Thanks to iNBe. Fan of the style, a hoppy beer that isn’t so strong. Manages to lower the strength and maltyness but not loose balance with intense hops. Serving: Bottle

Oh wow, finally i got a chance to put my hands on a Stone beer, and also a quite rare style in EU, let’s see what’s up. Golden color, big and ultra persistent white head. Nose is amazing, an explosion of orange hops. Aroma is pure hops, and A LOT of it, loads of citrusy aromas with bitter orange peel and pine. There’s also a fruity shade of apricot and peach. Taste is obviously bitter, strong bitterness in the finish. Light body, average carbonation. Finish itself its ultra-dry, almost dehydrating I don’t find this to be very sessionable, the bitter trail is very hard to put away, however has it fashion. Cool in all senses.
