It’s no secret we helped create and popularize West Coast style IPAs (since 1997), Double IPAs (since 2000) & Triple IPAs (since 2006). In fact, IPAs of every ilk imaginable are our bread and (hop) butter at Stone Brewing Co., but we’ll be the first to admit that a night of subsisting solely on big IPAs can be a short one. Enter Stone Go To IPA, our session IPA, boasting all the gloriously bitter, citrusy, piney flavor of our bigger / industrial-strength IPAs, but with a significantly lower alcohol-by-volume (4.5%) allowing IPA fans like us to enjoy more of this amazingly, hoppy beer over a longer session, without giving up any of that gloriously crave-able botanically-driven dankness. Well, OK, when you compare to our bigger IPAs you find that you give up some, as that’s what happens when you dramatically lower the abv. And while we work hard to bend the time/space/abv intensity continuum, we’ve admittedly not yet learned to break it. This comes damn close though.

Pours a golden yellow with a foamy white head. Has an aroma of citrus fruit and floral notes. Flavor is floral and pine with lots of hops. I would enjoy this more, but there’s something in the finish that is a bit off. I can’t quite put my finger on it. Otherwise a good session ale.

Pour on tap at Mayor of Old Town, clear golden-orange pour with white head, aroma brought onion, garlic, pine, some resinous notes into a bit of lemon peel, touch of slight biscuit. Taste was a mix of biscuit, bread, some yeast into quite a bit of resin, pine, some oniony notes with a hint of orange, finishing bitter. Pretty nice, not my favorite hop profile however.

Light gold, hazy, tall head. Medium body, strong flavor, lean texture, long palate, steely finish. Very bitter, dry, good acidity. Intensely hoppy, herby. Not very filling, but very flavorful, true to the description of a session IPA. A bit too stern for my taste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Golden honey ochre, hazy, one finger dense creamy head, good lacing. Tropical fruit, mango, bit tangerine, caramel malt, sweet and inviting. Fizzy, light to medium body, malty, sweet and bitter, dry finish with grapefruit. Nice balance and aroma, enjoyed!

Really nice aroma with pine, citrus, and grassy hops. Bitter, fruity flavor, with a spicy finish. Really good light IPA.

Hazy gold with a white head. Thin body. Super bitter hoppy. Good citrus and pine notes. Way too much thin bitterness, though a session IPA is expected to be as such. A bunch of flavor but too bitter for the body.

Pours a simple yellow color that was slightly grainy. Aroma of light grapefruit, easy floral aroma. Taste is the same, with minor citrus flavors mixed with a flowery flavor on the palate. A very easy drinking beer, light and refreshing beer.

Bottle from BrewDog Online. It pours clear gold with a decent white head. The nose is fresh, juicy, grapefruit, lemon parfait, grassy, dank and pissy action. The taste is crisp, refreshingly bitter, clean, grapefruit, lemon rind, light soap, fresh pine, floral, dank hops and just a touch of malty sweetness with a lingering, dry finish. Light body and moderate carbonation. Crisp, clean and crushable. The bottle pretty much drank itself. Top notch session IPA.

Piney green aroma come from this cloudy yellow ipa. Citrusy bitter with low malt to balance. Light bodied and crisp with almost a buttery aftertaste. Bold hop flavor.
