COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Its no secret we helped create and popularize West Coast style IPAs (since 1997), Double IPAs (since 2000) & Triple IPAs (since 2006). In fact, IPAs of every ilk imaginable are our bread and (hop) butter at Stone Brewing Co., but well be the first to admit that a night of subsisting solely on big IPAs can be a short one. Enter Stone Go To IPA, our session IPA, boasting all the gloriously bitter, citrusy, piney flavor of our bigger / industrial-strength IPAs, but with a significantly lower alcohol-by-volume (4.5%) allowing IPA fans like us to enjoy more of this amazingly, hoppy beer over a longer session, without giving up any of that gloriously crave-able botanically-driven dankness. Well, OK, when you compare to our bigger IPAs you find that you give up some, as thats what happens when you dramatically lower the abv. And while we work hard to bend the time/space/abv intensity continuum, weve admittedly not yet learned to break it. This comes damn close though.

Light crispy aroma. Sharp bitterness with not much other flavor. Was really expecting it to be better. Still not bad. Just not as drinkable for me as I would have thought.

From 355 ml bottle. Pours a clear gold-amber with a thin but lasting white head. Aromas of lime, mango, guava, lemon, cut grass and a bit of pepper. Taste is soft fruit and sweet fruit up front before a pine resin and grapefruit bitterness sweeps in. Lingering citrus and pepper in the finish. Nice piney aftertaste. Like it a lot.

330ml bottle @ Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury. Pours clear amber with decent white head. Soft toffee & fruity hop aroma. Taste is sweet malts with a good bitter hop front. Easy-drinking IPA.

Bottle from Tanakaya. Poured into an English tulip pint. Clear pale straw color with a big foamy white head that hands around throughout. Big cat piss aroma on the nose with some white grapefruit pith and pine aromas present too. Light body with a strong bitterness on the palate. Nice bitter, dry and crisp finish. Gets a bit like hops and water as it warms up though. Still a solid session IPA.

Well, its not the best ipa that Stone has delivered. Very refreshing! Grassy, fruity, intensive smell of pines, very light taste.

I never thought Id see the day, but here it isa Stone IPA that I dont care for. I guess they cant all be winners. I thought this was quite uncharacteristic for Stone. Thanks but no thanks.

355mL bottle from Slowbeer. BB 05/28/15 Pours a slightly hazy orange-gold body, small firm white head. Pleasant hoppy aroma; mango, cut grass, pine needle, woody spice, with a touch of biscuity malt underneath. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation. Packs a plenty of hops into the body; grass, green herbs, pine sap, woody spice & tropical fruits. Modest measure of biscuity pale malts, finish somewhat abrupt with a brash bitterness. Plenty of hops, but lacking that bit of malt to provide balance.

Bottle. Clear gold with an inch of white head. Bright aroma of melon, grapefruit, a little hay and caramel, pine. Strange touch of capsicum. Lightish bodied, easily avoids the emptiness of some of these SIPAs - but then, it is 4.5%. Grapefruit is more prominent in the taste, which is fairly dry and quite bitter. Lesser tropical fruit and piney notes, malt is not doing much but is firm and pleasantly clean. Pretty good.
