Light crispy aroma. Sharp bitterness with not much other flavor. Was really expecting it to be better. Still not bad. Just not as drinkable for me as I would have thought.

A- Citrus, juicy, peaches, pine, tangerines.
A- Yellow color, cloudy liquid, white head.
T- Citrus, juicy, piney, bitter.
P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, citrusy bitter finish.
O- Wow, talk about an amazing aroma. Big juicy citrus smells. Sadly, my bottle was a month past the nest by date. Had it been fresh, the taste might have equaled the nose, but it just didnít quite match up. None the less, the first Stone beer Iíve ever really really liked. Well done.

Stone Go To IPA breaks new ground in two critical ways. The first is the most obvious; Go To IPA is the Escondido breweryís premier Session IPA. The second may just be a first for me, but itís a welcome change regardless - this session ale has more fruit flavor and balance than some of Stoneís heavily-hopped classics (which are also delicious, by the way). The aggressive blast of bitter grapefruit and pine needles is swapped for a juicy aroma and flavor. The aroma is ridiculously good with notes of lemon, grapefruit, apricot, orange, and peach. While not as juicy as that phenomenal aroma, the taste shows off the sweeter side of grapefruit and malt. An excellent, spicy pine flavor does its job without adding too much bitterness. Mouthfeel is as diverse as it is satisying - moderate carbonation, sticky hop oils, and wet hop sensations. With 4.5% ABV, Go To IPA provides a hell of a lot of flavor without getting you too buzzed.

Bottle. Pours a pale golden, medium white head with okay retention and lacing. Nose is grapefruit, grassy meadow, light malts. Mouth is relatively light bodied, dry with medium bitterness, lots of grapefruit --- like it straight up tastes almost like watered down fresh grapefruit justice without the acidity and the sweetness, some lemongrass underlying, dry white toast. If this is the future trend in IPAs, Iím down... even if I am still a fan of big-ass Imperial IPAs like Arctic Panzer Wolf and pretty much any of íem that Pipeworks do. I could seriously drink several gallons of this stuff.

UPDATED: AUG 22, 2014 Wow! The grassy, heavily apricot aroma was amazing out of the bottle and I couldnít really help but to have my first taste right out of the neck. How amazingly redolent and I could imagine it will be a very memorable experience. Iíll be thinking about this one again and again. There is something about a fresh hop nose slapping you in the face that will have you thinking about it the next day. This is one of those.
The bitter pine in the afterward is lasting, but not unpleasant, and the light, dry, body is only an invitation to another long swallow. Did I mention the very clear, light gold liquid and the sticky, thin, white head? Not the most important parts of this review, obviously.
Re-rated a few days later. Not happy that I need to come back to this to make a different decision. The second time around was less enjoyable, by far. I found the apricot cloying, the pine missing altogether and although the aroma was still quite enjoyable, the long pulls were much more like a bitter and grainy aftertaste. This time, I had not had any other brew previously, and so I could imagine this was my issue the first time.

I have to applaud Stone for accomplishing something special here. Their ability to generate a big IPA with a sub-5 ABV is amazing. The grapefruit is through and though here, while it doesnít come across as thin at alll. Very drinkable, great aroma. As a straight IPA itíd probably score a bit lower but Iím pumping up the rating just die to the accomplishment.

355 mL bottle. Aroma is big - all piney hops. Flavour is all piney hops as well, but itís thin. I guess you can complain when itís a session IPA. Pine isnít my favourite hop flavour, though.

Wonderful aroma of hops, pine resin, fruit, great looking, cloudy gold color, with low carbonation and a short lasting white head. Taste of pine resin and pineapple with a dry feel an a dry chalky finish.

Single from total wine. Pretty big for a sessionable ipa but still delicious. Love the hop profile with lots of citrus and grapefruit and a touch of pine. Finish is lots of bitter and grapefruit rind citrus.

12 oz single from Lifesource Natural Grocer in Salem OR
Pours a lighter burnt orange colour with a large thick and frothy white head.
Achhhh the aroma ..not my style of SIPA..lot of green onion and garlic, little pine..better..but not impressed.
The taste is a little better..but a bit on the resiny herbal side., bit of grapefruit rind...little malt.
Mouth feel is fine..that part is at least sessionable.
Greatly disappointed..i had changed my profile to put Session IPA as my fav style given the great session IPAs coming out of smaller breweries in Oregon.
THis is just average compared to those.
No idea why it has such rave ratings. Perhaps I got a bad bottle.
