COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
It’s no secret we helped create and popularize West Coast style IPAs (since 1997), Double IPAs (since 2000) & Triple IPAs (since 2006). In fact, IPAs of every ilk imaginable are our bread and (hop) butter at Stone Brewing Co., but we’ll be the first to admit that a night of subsisting solely on big IPAs can be a short one. Enter Stone Go To IPA, our session IPA, boasting all the gloriously bitter, citrusy, piney flavor of our bigger / industrial-strength IPAs, but with a significantly lower alcohol-by-volume (4.5%) allowing IPA fans like us to enjoy more of this amazingly, hoppy beer over a longer session, without giving up any of that gloriously crave-able botanically-driven dankness. Well, OK, when you compare to our bigger IPAs you find that you give up some, as that’s what happens when you dramatically lower the abv. And while we work hard to bend the time/space/abv intensity continuum, we’ve admittedly not yet learned to break it. This comes damn close though.

UPDATED: NOV 2, 2014 A near perfect session IPA. The aroma is abundant, peppery, floral hops. The flavors follow, earthy, peppery, floral and bitter. Absolutely delicious fresh. Body is just a tad thin, and the flavor often fades quickly like a fresh hop ale so check the date...

Keg at Man in the Moon. Hazy deep golden, small head. Pear, pine and bread up front. Dry with light body and clean, fairly crisp mouthfeel. Pears and bread, notes of paper. Mid bitter finish.

Tropiskt fruktighet i aromen. Bra balans i smaken och bra fyllighet i kroppen till ABVn.

Hazy golden. Citrus and sweet, light and easy to destroy a few. Might have had a better rating the site didn’t keep going down

Flaska systembolaget. Disig gul kulör med vitt skum. Väldigt humlefräsch doft av ananas, mango och barr. Smaken drar åt tropiska frukter med lite hö och örter. Fin maltbas i botten. Bra beska med fin torrhet.

Bottle @ De Klomp. Pours pale golden with a small white head that slowly dissipates without leaving much trace on the glass. Smell is fruity and grassy with crackers, grapefruit, mango, lychee, star fruit, freshly cut grass, chives, pine needles, orange zest and lemon zest. Taste is bitter and grassy with crackers, grapefruit, unripe mango, moist grass, chives, pine needles, minerals, orange peal, lemon zest and hints of cardboard. Mouthfeel soft, astringent, tiny watery and light bodied. Finish is bitter with crackers, grapefruit, lychee, moist grass, pine needles, minerals, orange zest and lemon zest. It’s a pity it’s a couple of months old when it reaches us in this part of the world. It’s a solid session IPA which I hope to have fresh some day.

Draught at Brendan Behan. Cloudy gold with an inch of white head (rather light for an IPA). Aroma is huge lemon, lemon peel, some grapefruit and evergreen too, touch of sugar sweetness. Flavor is approximately the same (sorry, I’m reviewing the day after.) Body is medium-light and slightly oily, moderate carbonation. Overall, a delicious session IPA with lot’s of hop flavor and a mellow bitterness.

Straw/gold, thick head one finger large. Big hop aroma - juicy tropical fruit, mango, pineapple, marijuana. Taste is crisp and strong with hoppy bitterness. Body is just enough to support all this hop action. Bittersweet with a dry finish. A nice alternative when you are not in the mood for huge syrupy hop-bomb IPA’s.
