It’s no secret we helped create and popularize West Coast style IPAs (since 1997), Double IPAs (since 2000) & Triple IPAs (since 2006). In fact, IPAs of every ilk imaginable are our bread and (hop) butter at Stone Brewing Co., but we’ll be the first to admit that a night of subsisting solely on big IPAs can be a short one. Enter Stone Go To IPA, our session IPA, boasting all the gloriously bitter, citrusy, piney flavor of our bigger / industrial-strength IPAs, but with a significantly lower alcohol-by-volume (4.5%) allowing IPA fans like us to enjoy more of this amazingly, hoppy beer over a longer session, without giving up any of that gloriously crave-able botanically-driven dankness. Well, OK, when you compare to our bigger IPAs you find that you give up some, as that’s what happens when you dramatically lower the abv. And while we work hard to bend the time/space/abv intensity continuum, we’ve admittedly not yet learned to break it. This comes damn close though.

Near gold pour with a 1 finger, creamy to soapy white head that has good retention and leaves a little lacing. Aroma is loaded with tangerine citrus, tropical fruit, pineapple and passion fruit heavy, a little lemon and hints of biscuit. Flavor is biscuit and tree fruit esters up front, then some nice citrus zest, tropical fruit, fruity and floral hops, with a nice crisp minerality and a pretty big dose of hop acids to the finish. Light body, creamy to dusty feel, with that hop acid twang kicking in toward the crisp, dry finish. Really good stuff, lots of tasty hop aroma and flavor in a clean, easy going package.

Had this offering from Stone before in a bottle, but had it in a 16oz can at dinner. It had a nice floral hop nose with a surprisingly good hop taste for a mere 4.8% ABV. Tasted extra cold and satisfying in a can. Thought it was a better session than Easy Jack or All Day, which are quality sessions in their own rights. Cheers!

Newly-arrived 16oz cans. Pours a luminous gold with voluminous head and flawless retention. Nose of simply fresh hops. Literally smells of that fresh hop resin when you rub it in your hands. Underneath a lemon, melon, Apple, naval orange, ethereal grapefruit and husky, earthy pine. Flavor is gently lemony, honeydew making a firm cameo, sweet flowers and breezy pine. Superbly dry. Drinks amazingly, and even better out of the can! This is now my favorite IPA right now. Hits all the sweet spots for me.

A light yellow beer, a head is medium and blond. Aroma has grapefruits, some tropical fruitness and mandarin. Taste has grapefruits, tropical notes, the bitterness is nicely strong and long lasting. Medium bodied. Good beer, not a notes of low alcohol %.

On tap at Blackbird Public House. Hazy straw with a huge white head. Aroma is very citrusy with candied orange and mandarine notes. Piney and citrusy bitterness aftertaste. Very good.

HBF 2016. Very unclear notes written in the A4 sized beer guide. So just numers and some comments: Pretty light, citrus, resiny. Your normal IPA = go to!

This beer really turned me on to sessions. Surprisingly malty with a killer hop profile. Really juicy while staying light and refreshing

16 oz. can. Bright light golden color with a taller, slightly diminishing white head. Strong hops aromas, with citrus, resin and light pine. Some hints of dough and lightly toasted white bread. Feel is thicker than I’ve expected, but the flavors come off a bit thinner. Akin to what I refer to top tea. Decent hop flavors, but lacking in the malt depth to back it up.
