COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
It’s no secret we helped create and popularize West Coast style IPAs (since 1997), Double IPAs (since 2000) & Triple IPAs (since 2006). In fact, IPAs of every ilk imaginable are our bread and (hop) butter at Stone Brewing Co., but we’ll be the first to admit that a night of subsisting solely on big IPAs can be a short one. Enter Stone Go To IPA, our session IPA, boasting all the gloriously bitter, citrusy, piney flavor of our bigger / industrial-strength IPAs, but with a significantly lower alcohol-by-volume (4.5%) allowing IPA fans like us to enjoy more of this amazingly, hoppy beer over a longer session, without giving up any of that gloriously crave-able botanically-driven dankness. Well, OK, when you compare to our bigger IPAs you find that you give up some, as that’s what happens when you dramatically lower the abv. And while we work hard to bend the time/space/abv intensity continuum, we’ve admittedly not yet learned to break it. This comes damn close though.

Poured from the tap into a Rogue pint glass. The color is clear orange/gold with a foamy white head and some nice lacing. The smell is bright hops with some fresh hop aroma. Fresh cut grass is in the nose with a tangerine aroma sweetening things up and making it citrus smelling. The taste is nice piney hops with sweet light malty goodness. A nice citrus flavor with hints of tangerine and tangy grapefruit. Much like Enjoy By IPA, the flavor has that same earthy grass taste. The feel is light bodied and goes pretty damn easy. A tasty beer in a light session-able package. Some flavor reminiscent of bigger IPAs but has lightness that is very drinkable.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a head of foamy fine to medium sized white colored bubbles that were mostly diminishing and left behind a very softly carbonated slightly hazy light yellow orange colored body and a good lacing. The nice aroma was citrus and hoppy. The crisp mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish with a lingering hoppy aftertaste. The good flavor contained notes of citrus and hops. A decent one that I would consider buying again.

Stone’s ISA, with creamy, snow white, stable and sticky head over a deep warm golden blonde robe with quiet sparkling. Lovely hoppy aroma of chamomille, dried apricot, hay, lemon peel, unripe pear, dried orange peel, cedar needles. Very delicate flavour: a ’clean’, crisp fruitiness to begin with (pear, gooseberry, unripe pineapple), soft minerally accents and even a slight saltiness, citrus peel fraîcheur over a dry pale maltiness, only very subduedly sweetish and announcing a long, dry, mouth-lining hoppiness, bearing lemon peel and pine resin flavours and leaving no residual maltiness. Extremely thirst quenching and utterly refined at the same time: this is the best session IPA I had so far. Thanks to Ster of the BeerTemple for keeping this aside.

12oz bottle. Bright gold color with minimal head. Aroma is fresh hops and light malt. Tasty flavors of nice hops. Easy to drink certainly, but not exciting.

Draft, straw-yellow pour with solid head retention. Juicy, tropical, sharp aroma. Flavor is initial sweetness, citrus, astringency lingering. Flavorful session.

Lightly hazy gold beer, good pale cream colour head. Palate is light, semi dry and crisp. Light and mildly sweet malts. Hops are grassy pine with mild herb. Orange pith and modest hop spice. Light finish. Goes down very easy.

Sampled on 6/26/2015. This session IPA pours a medium yellow gold color from a 12oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity and sweet, citrusy and piney. A medium bodied session IPA. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are citrusy and piney. Lively carbonation. A medium bitter IPA, lots of flavor and very drinkable. A nice session IPA, its not as over the top in bitter as one would expect with Stone. Although the bitterness does linger a long time. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Citrus & some grapefruit bitterness dominates the lack of malt profile. Great brewery but session IPAs just aren’t my thing.

Bottle from Beer Gonzo, Coventry. Aromas of orange, peach, a little lemon sherbert, some pine. Taste is tropical fruit, orange, citrus, with a decent medium bitter finish. Very nice.

Keg, BrewDog Leicester. Diaphanous straw skimmed with white. Aroma of throat sweet peach and honey; humid ganja leafiness, dry pine and cedar, vomited OJ, curry leaf. Robust pine, peach, flowers and curry leaf on the palate backed with a thoroughly decent stewed tea and dunked biscuit English base. Lingers with nut husk and grapefruit. Bittersweet and punchy. Cheeky little English-style lunch time refresher.

Bottle pour at Blue Line Pizza in San Carlos, CA.Got danker over the session but ultimately didn’t have a lot of personality or character I’d expect from Stone. To be expected for a Session IPA I guess.
