Its no secret we helped create and popularize West Coast style IPAs (since 1997), Double IPAs (since 2000) & Triple IPAs (since 2006). In fact, IPAs of every ilk imaginable are our bread and (hop) butter at Stone Brewing Co., but well be the first to admit that a night of subsisting solely on big IPAs can be a short one. Enter Stone Go To IPA, our session IPA, boasting all the gloriously bitter, citrusy, piney flavor of our bigger / industrial-strength IPAs, but with a significantly lower alcohol-by-volume (4.5%) allowing IPA fans like us to enjoy more of this amazingly, hoppy beer over a longer session, without giving up any of that gloriously crave-able botanically-driven dankness. Well, OK, when you compare to our bigger IPAs you find that you give up some, as thats what happens when you dramatically lower the abv. And while we work hard to bend the time/space/abv intensity continuum, weve admittedly not yet learned to break it. This comes damn close though.

Poured from the tap into a Rogue pint glass. The color is clear orange/gold with a foamy white head and some nice lacing. The smell is bright hops with some fresh hop aroma. Fresh cut grass is in the nose with a tangerine aroma sweetening things up and making it citrus smelling. The taste is nice piney hops with sweet light malty goodness. A nice citrus flavor with hints of tangerine and tangy grapefruit. Much like Enjoy By IPA, the flavor has that same earthy grass taste. The feel is light bodied and goes pretty damn easy. A tasty beer in a light session-able package. Some flavor reminiscent of bigger IPAs but has lightness that is very drinkable.

Appearance is golden and completely clear at first, but then a bit cloudy once all the bottle is poured out. A bubbly white head, a few bubbles rising. Aroma- tons of fresh hops, grapefruit, pineapple, pine, malts, hint of toffee. Smells great. Taste- lots of hop bitterness, orange peel, pineapple juice, fresh fruit, and more tropical fruit comes through as it warms a bit. Lots of pine, a long and very bitter finish. Really good.

Bottle from Craft Wine 260515. Vibrant golden colour with a low layer of white foam. Strong vibrant aromas of pineapple and passion fruit fill the nose. Great flavour, lots of fruit. Big in the mouth with a long finish. One of the best easy drinking IPAs I have had in a long time.

Bottle poured into tulip. Aroma of morning pine, slightly damp and tastes also of pine and citrus. Smoothes aftertaste. Maybe slightly overcarbonated. A satisfying beer.

jdjuice (417) - Kumamoto, JAPAN - MAY 23, 2015
Pours pale yellow with thin white head that laces nicely. Aroma is fruity, citrusy, little piney notes. Has more body than I was expecting, not much malt flavor as expected, covered by fresh hops from start to finish. Very light, very drinkable. A little more malt flavor and a little less hops would make this really nice.

May 22, 2015. 12 oz. bottle. How does a brewer pack so much body, flavor & hop-flora -- fully reminiscent of heavyweight IPAs -- into a 4.5 ABV brew? This "session IPA" is a masterpiece.

Bottle in post from brewdog. A lot of flavour, Pineapply, sweet and sour. Perhaps too intense for a session. Very good .

Keg @ Bundobust, Leeds. Pale amber with not much of a head. Tropical fruit hopped in both aroma and taste with a slight sour bitterness to it.
