It’s no secret we helped create and popularize West Coast style IPAs (since 1997), Double IPAs (since 2000) & Triple IPAs (since 2006). In fact, IPAs of every ilk imaginable are our bread and (hop) butter at Stone Brewing Co., but we’ll be the first to admit that a night of subsisting solely on big IPAs can be a short one. Enter Stone Go To IPA, our session IPA, boasting all the gloriously bitter, citrusy, piney flavor of our bigger / industrial-strength IPAs, but with a significantly lower alcohol-by-volume (4.5%) allowing IPA fans like us to enjoy more of this amazingly, hoppy beer over a longer session, without giving up any of that gloriously crave-able botanically-driven dankness. Well, OK, when you compare to our bigger IPAs you find that you give up some, as that’s what happens when you dramatically lower the abv. And while we work hard to bend the time/space/abv intensity continuum, we’ve admittedly not yet learned to break it. This comes damn close though.

This is really nice. Pale golden yellow in the glass with a thin white head. Very potent floral, fruit, and citrus hop aroma. Medium body, reasonable bitterness but not overwhelming.

From a 355ml bottle on 30/8/2015. Pours a clear light golden with a medium white head. The nose is very fragrant with lots of passionfruit, lychee and lemon. The flavour is also dominated by fruit - particularly lemon and passionfruit against a modest bready malt background. The bitterness is quite firm and refreshing, with some grapefruit. Light bodied with average carbonation. All up, a very nice little IPA.

Great session IPA, great hop smell. Mostly citrus and pine, fizzy despite anti fizzy nomenclature. Clear orange. A little watery but it is session. Go to for sure.

Light haze, straw colored yellow. Big, lacy, off white head. Very floral, estery on the nose, pine. Though I was expecting a bit more of a follow through, it was well made. Hopped throughout with a slightly bitter, malty medium bodied finish, some citrus.

Bottle. Slightly hazy polished brass body with a dense off white head. Nose of strong citrus and pine. There is also bread crust, wood and something sweet like peach cobbler. Tastes of bread crust and almonds are present. The finish has plenty of pine resin and bits of grapefruit rind. A overall well made balanced hop bomb that is pleasant to drink.

This is most tasty low abv pale ale I can remember - the dominant peachy hops really float my boat - the bitterness is exquisite - totally brilliant.

Bottle from Cork 57. Inviting gold body with medium head. Nose of hops and citrus. Taste also hops, citrus and nice carbonation. More subdued obviously on the alcohol side but still quite nice and fluid. Buttery finish.

Bottle in Seattle. Clean, very fresh juicy hop. Fresh aroma. A bit of grass, drier finish. Good session body, lovely hop character.

Draught @ Stone Brewing Taproom, San Diego, CA. Pours a clear bright golden colour with a small foamy head. Aroma of strong juicy citrus, some mild sweetness and freshly cut grass. Flavour of juicy dry citrusy bitterness, orange pith, dank hoppiness and mild graininess. Light bodied. Excellent stuff with high drinkability. I want more. A lot. This is what session IPAs are all about.
