COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Just one wooden barrel of this beer was produced. The beer is Stone Imperial Russian Stout, and it was aged for about a year in a used bourbon barrel. From that wooden cask, we were only able to keg up very little. Expect to see the next appearance of this at the Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens after it opens early this summer.

Draught at Churchkey. Aroma and taste of Jack Daniels, enough to dilute the characteristics of the stout

Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Colin, again! Pours thick black-brown with a frothy beige head. Good aroma, suggestive of good depth, some dark chocolate, strong roast, brownies, dark fruits. Medium to big sweet flavor with light alcohol kick, dark chocolate, some scorched earth, burnt wood, burnt toffee. Full bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. Warming finish with lots of bittersweet chocolate, lasting roast, charred wood. Good stuff.

A: A jet black pour out of the growler with a sturdy tan head on top. S: The amount of vanilla in the nose is absolutely astounding. The stout notes are still there--chocolate and roast, but the bourbon itself was somewhat muted. T: Even more vanilla as the beer hits the tongue. Quite sweet, especially when compared to the base beer. A mild bourbon presence and some nice tannins from the barrel. M: Quite medium to full bodied with a low, rolling carbonation. Not quite as thick and chewy as the IRS tends to be, but quite nice. D: This one can catch up with you rather quickly. A pleasure to have been able to drink and I wish that there weren’t so many beers to try so I could have enjoyed this one a bit more.

Growler sample at JO’s. Poured a black color with a minnimal frothy brown head that diminished with minimal lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted chocolate, coffee and wood bourbon aroma. Medium to heavy bourbon sweet roasted black coffee malty flavor with a heavy bittersweet and small alcohol bite finish of moderate to long duration. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a standout beer with some age.
