COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Just one wooden barrel of this beer was produced. The beer is Stone Imperial Russian Stout, and it was aged for about a year in a used bourbon barrel. From that wooden cask, we were only able to keg up very little. Expect to see the next appearance of this at the Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens after it opens early this summer.

Bottle pour of Fyodors Classic! Absolutely mind blowing! This 14% barrel aged IRS beauty is euphoric! Loads of bourbon and melted smoked chocolate resonate all over on this fine brew. Cheers!

This is what a Bourbon Barrel Stout should be. Balanced, big, Rich , Delicate, Complex and down right amazing. Nose of Mocha, vanilla, caramel, whisky, toffee and bakers cocoa. Huge yet delicate mouthfeel and wonderful balance. This should be bottled, but I am ok if no one gets to try it because ,I did.

Thanks very much for sharing this 1 liter swing-top. The beer pours to a pitch black body with a dense body and a really creamy beige/brown head. Nice lacing. The aroma is awesome. The barrel is a welcome addition and imparts oaken marshmallows on top of creamy chocolate bars and vanilla. The flavor is perfectly balanced. Vanilla, graham crackers, chocolate, marshmallows, oak, and slight coffee. The palate is creamy, full bodied, and the barrel aging is very nicely balanced.

Draft… RBSG ‘08This beer rocks!… Pitch black ale with a very small, creamy, khaki-colored head. Chocolaty, vinous aroma with notes of vanilla and controlled bourbon. Full-bodied and ultra silky with restrained carbonation. The finish is charred and chocolaty with discreet, elegant bourbon. About as good as it gets!

Draft at Back in Black ’09 at Brouwer’s. Pours a very dark black with dark tan head. Incredible aroma that is dominated by rich caramel and bourbon. The only negative is that this is a bit sweet and rich, but the molasses flavor was balanced incredibly well with the strong bourbon background and a touch of the hops. This is an incredibly smooth beer that goes down far easier than the 10.8% would indicate. An amazing beer. Doesn’t get much better than this.

Sampler during Stone Week (April 3) at Finnegan’s, Plainfield. 2008 vintage. Can’t you tell this was what I was drinking at closing time? Black body with a thick ring of foam. Smell of strawberries soaked in bourbon. Dare i say, more heady, impressive and intoxicating than my beloved Bourbon County Stout? Maybe. Alcoholic but not "hot," and with no "burnt" pieces like many stouts. Just some nutty roast malts paired with a fruit and bourbon smell. A great, creamy finish.

Appearance: Black, viscous-looking, leg-producing body with a quietly receding, dark brown head. Smell: Big, beautiful bourbon presence on the nose marrying well with the robust dark roasted malts notes. It’s altogether inviting. Taste: From start to finish, it’s a sweet, earthy roastiness stirred up with slowly melted barker’s chocolate chunks, vanilla beans, burnt caramel sauce, dark brown sugar, oak wood (with some tannins breaking through), dark fruits, chilled coffee, shaved coconut and a fair share of burgeoning alcohol warmth. It’s all quite bold, but it still maintains a quiet, easy-going mellowness. Mouthfeel: Near-full body. Medium carbonation. Smooth, velvety mouthfeel. Drinkability: Very nice. Look, I love Stone Russian Imperial Stone, but the deliciousness of the bourbon barrel version has been the highpoint of my beer drinking in the last several months. Oh, if only all the barrel-aged stouts could turn out this well.

Pours dark with a small brownish head that settles to a whisp. Aroma is fudge, oak, traces of vanilla and caramel, and light notes of bourbon. The taste really something great. Rich chocolate and vanilla swirl, fudge, oak, and a bit of bourbon heat to round it out. The palate is smooth, chewy, and viscous. This beer is just incredible.
