spikester (602), Salem, Oregon, USA Apr 4, 2009 Cloudy amber with a huge three finger head and good amount of lacings. Aroma is big bready and citrus hops. Taste is big citrus hops, grapefruit rind, some pine and resins. Malts are there but definately bringing up the rear. Mouthfeel is good very crisp, but slightly excessive carbonation. I may have served this a bit too cold. Overall an impressive IPA and just what I look for in a modern West Coast version. Drink ’em fresh for best results. LtDan (471), LA - Originally from South NJ!, California, USA Apr 3, 2009 Appearance: Pours a clear gold with a dense, foamy white head.
Aroma: Piny and grassy hops in the nose.
Taste: Citrus flavors such as lemon and lime, tons of bitter and spicy hops. A very modest malt bill can be found if you look hard enough.
Mouthfeel: Crisp and refreshing. Full bodied and carbonated.
Overall: This IPA will knock your socks off with bitterness. The Ruination has more floral and fruit notes mixed in with the wheelbarrow of hops. This IPA is crisp, dry and really hoppy. You should like both, but you might like one over the other for the differences mentioned. Coltrane (108), South Carolina, USA Apr 3, 2009 Fantastic, especially if fresh. Piney and resiny in the aroma and taste. The ultimate in available west coast IPAs. foundmd (163), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Apr 2, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours translucent golden orange with a fluffy white head. Fantastic aroma of citrus and grassy hops. The taste is big hops with a light malt backing. Lost of pine and resin with notes of grapefruit and caramel. Pleasant lingering bitter aftertaste. Excellent. coyotehunter (542), , Michigan, USA Mar 31, 2009 Pours a nice copper color with a foamy head. Heavy hop aroma. Lemons, grapefruit, pine and some flowers seem to make up the majority of this beer. Quite sure this is over-rated. Taste is a mixed up mess IMO. The flavors seem to run around all crazy like and never quite come together. Good beer, but not a great beer. shawnm213 (884), South Bend, Indiana, USA Mar 29, 2009 bottle. bitter. pretty straightforward ipa. not as good as founders centennial ipa or bell’s two hearted. PaulHegedus (458), Georgetown, Ontario, Canada Mar 29, 2009 Bottle. This is golden orange in the glass with a half inch white head, medium carbonation. There’s loads of pine in the aroma, fresh pink grapefruit, sliced apricot, lime juice and zest. The body is medium, coating, slightly oily. There are waves of lacing on the glass. Malt and hops are really well balanced in this. I taste lots of pink grapefruit, pine, wood, fresh sliced avocado in the hops; the bitterness is strong and inviting. Finishes fairly long. smith8137 (1), USA does not count Mar 27, 2009 The best IPA out there, at least in my experience. Yes, hoppy, a little citrus note, yet overall, balanced and finishes smooth. Just an outstanding overall beer.
