Great aroma, hops and grapefruit. Color is a nice gold. Taste is mostly the same as aroma, hops and grapefruit. Body medium to thin. Hops/bitterness is not overwhelming. The taste improves as it warms.

UPDATED: NOV 28, 2008 I always heard it was good, and boy did it smell good upon cracking it open. The amount and types of hops they use make a very nice bouquet of pine/citrus hop notes. Upon pouring it out it had a large foamy white head. It is a very smooth beer with a somewhat bitter after-taste, but not too bitter. A great very clean tasting beer, you can tell they do it right.

Poured a deep amber/orange with a large frothy white head. Strong floral hoppy smell with hints of citris and malts. Smooth to drink. Bitterness after taste is almost done to perfection (not too much and not too less).

UPDATED: MAY 26, 2004 22 oz bottle: this beer is truly delish! i could drink it ALL DAY LONG. or until i passed out. milky frothy white hed, looks like fluffy clouds. the color is one of orange and gold combined. Smells of, um hops? This brew puckers my lips at first encounter, it's sticky, resiny, and pungent as a mofo. The mouthfeel is smooth and buttery, and slight malts too. i'm way into it. stone leaves you wanting more and more, tastes better everytime in my opinion.

Tap (5/03/04): I think this is the beer I had (not anniversary). Pours with a golden, clear color with a nice frothy, white head. Aroma: lemon, hops, spice, orange. Flavor: initial sour lemon, orange rind, citrus, hops, dish soap, apple. Aftertaste: sweet lemon, fortune cookie.

Stone IPA pours a golden color with some miniscule floaties. It has a huge, frothy, white head that lasts forever.

The nose is huge on hops (kind of on the grassy, piney side)! There are also some grapefruit tones. Very appealing!

The taste is hop juice up front, leading to some citrusey, bready malt. It ends with a big, bitter hop finish and aftertaste. Itís medium bodied and fairly well balanced - though it obviously favors the hops over the malts. The slight malt and citrus help balance it well.

Overall, this is probably the best IPA Iíve had to date. Itís a nose ahead of Avery IPA and Victory Hop Devil.

UPDATED: NOV 25, 2007 Orangey amber, white head, PNW hops. Nice mouthfeel, citric, piney, mildly sweet, nicely drinkable. RERATE 5/14/04: I keep coming back to this one. Of the four Stone beers that Iíve tried, this one is the nicest. RERATE 11/07: Sort of watery, kiss of caramel and maybe butterscotch, piney Centenials. Refreshing.

Beautiful aroma--tons of pine with hints of citrus. Smells very yummy. Pour is a transparent copper with a quicky dissipating fine white head. Creamy hoppy, bitter, butterish tasting. Hints of citrus in there as well. Very 1 dimensional, but good. An upper-level IPA. (Southern Tier--must re-rate, Hopdevil, and SMuttynose come to mind)

Brewso (238) - Mt Kisco, New York, USA - APR 29, 2004
Juicy, sweet hops. This is really the standard for IPAs in my book. The hop/malt ratio is balanced so delicately that the bite is rounded out beautifully by a spicy, sweetness. If I could have an every day beer on tap this would be it!

rhapsouldize (174) - Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 29, 2004
UPDATED: SEP 29, 2004 Pours a light amber, filtered, with a bubbly off-white head. Flowery, citrusy aroma. Slightly bitter, tastes of citrus...almost grapefruity...and flowers. Very dry and crisp. Overall, delicious.
