4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
2006 bottle. Pours a bronze amber with a froathy white head. Aroma is "to the max", with citrus fruits, flora notes, hops, and pine. Flavor is a bit mellow, with a nice smooth mouthfeel, with some hops coming through, as well as the citruis. Definitely doesnít hit you with bitterness like the Ruination. Incredibly drinkable.

Easy to drink, widely distributed. Give one to a friend who drinks the yellow fizzy stuff and watch his eyes light up. Highly recommended.

Poured a cloudy copper/straw color. Medium white frothy head dispersed quickly, leaving a persistent lacing. Aroma is pure malt, mingled with hoppy goodness. Iím an IPA fanatic and after a recent string of Belgium samplings, this was a nice homecoming. Stone IPA has a big pine/hop taste that balances well with a sweet malt and citrusy fruit flavor. This leaves only a slight bitter aftertaste when compared to the Arrogant Bastard and the Ruination IPA. This isnít the "death by hops" experience many IPA fanatics drool over but it is an excellent IPA to be enjoyed by both fanatics and neophytes to the style.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: AUG 19, 2010 Ok the double dry hopped version needs a separate rating, cause it is not the same beer. Enjoyed during Chicagoís Stone Week.
Pours orange white creamy head. Awesome nose of fresh hops Bitter pine citrus juicy n drinkable Really solid. 9/4/9/4/16 4.2
22oz pours orange with a small fading head. aroma of floral and malt actually pretty weak for an ipa and especially a stone. a nice medium mouthfeel with a good amount of carbonation, flavor of malt and a light citrus hoppiness -slightly bitter at first disappearing rather quickly. thereís no date but i think stone must have bottled this a few months ago and most of the hops deteriorated. iíll have to rerate when i try a fresh one.

Big Bottle. Very legitimate IPA. Great fruity aroma. Great sweet fruit taste with a terrific transition into a very smooth hoppy ending. Very nice feel in the mouth - medium body and smooth. Eas to drink. #3 on my IPA list thus far.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Everything great in an IPA, this one has. My one complaint would be that the hop profile isnít as complex as some other (newer) IPAís, in that it is really all about the grapefruit with this one, whereas some styles present sweeter fruits (mango, peach) as well. Extra point overall for reasonable ABV for a session beer, minus point overall for relative expense.

UPDATED: APR 14, 2007 light copper/dark yellowish color with a nice white head. Aroma of citris and hops but not over the top. A nice solid IPA.

A treat, from the smell to the look to the taste. As hoppy as youíd expect but not painful; starts out with citrus flavors and ends with a more earthy, grainy vibe. Well balanced and delicious.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz bottle, via IrishBoy. Pours a clear gold colored body under a one finger off-white head of decent duration. No sediment in bottle. Aroma is very citrusy with some lighter caramel and toasted malt below. Lighter notes of toffee, iced tea, and lemon grass. Flavor is pretty hoppy, but not necessatily overly bitter, just a nice cleansing crispness. The malt is pretty tamed down, but it is noticable. Mouthfeel is on the thinner side with fizzy active carbonation that foams in the mouth. Pretty middle of the road this one. Enjoyable, but nothing that blows you away.

2.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Iím a huge fan of Stone, and their Ruination IPA is probably my favorite beer, period. But I felt this let me down a little.
*Head* - thin, sparkling
*Color* - Transparent, a blush amber
*Nose* - Powerful acidity in high tones, bittersweet, bearish, with a hint of sourness.
*1st Impression* - smooth and sweet before the hops charges in. Unusually "sparkly" sensation on the tongue, very crisp.
*Middle* - roaring surge of hops, gentle decay.
*After* - diminishes too rapidly after the glorious middle, but this quality adds to smoothness and drinkability.
*Overall* - This beer didnít quite live up to my expectations. It was very enjoyable for 80% of the experience, but the ending left me longing for more. This is a great beer, but I felt a little disappointed.
