COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle and keg: Filtered
Launched: August 1997
Hops: Magnum, Chinook & Centennial
By definition, an India Pale Ale is hoppier and higher in alcohol than its little brother, pale ale-and we deliver in spades. Now one of the most well respected and best-selling IPAs in the country, this golden beauty explodes with citrusy flavor and hop aromas, all perfectly balanced by a subtle malt character. This crisp, extra hoppy brew is hugely refreshing on a hot day, but will always deliver no matter when you choose to drink it.

Okay, so this thing smells like christma, hoards of piney and citrus hops. Interestign orange colour with a small head that left a smooth lacing. I was almost afraid this would be too hoppy and bitter. But it was very smooth and good. Balanced enough for an IPA this thing explodes with hops and leaves a crisp bitterness on your tounge. Iím looking forward to the bottle of runition sitting in the fridge!

UPDATED: MAR 27, 2005 (Bottle)I have to agree on the hop factor. Really hoppy but didnt balance well. A medium but slighty above average ipa.

Aroma of hops and perfume. Hops dominate the flavor and palate as well. Light amber color. Did I mention the hops?

Pours a medium white frothy head with a fair amount of lacing. Nice carbonation bubbles sticking to the sides and a beautiful amber color to the beer. Smells hoppy and a slight sweetness to it, simple but divine. Tastes hoppy with the slightest sweet taste to it, aftertaste goes from sweet back to bitter and lasts awhile. This is how IPAs were meant to be it is a real treat to drink this beer.

Beautiful copper color in an English pint. Citrus and grapefruit aromas. Good fizzy head that laces decently. Somewhat dry with light fruitiness. A nice full bitterness on the finish with big residual aromatic hops. Slightly unbalanced but a great session ale.

Rich orange-gold colour, 3 finger head. Mild aroma...the taste, WOW, this is damn good stuff. from the bottle description, I was worried this might be too hoppy for me, but luckily theyíre in perfect balance. Hoppy, sweet maltiness, orange, perfect bitterness and medium body, this would be a great beer to drink all the time. I canít imagine any ber lover disliking this one.

If there is a better IPA out there, I hope to find it some day but until then, I will remain convinced that this is the Holy Grail of IPAs...... Glowing apricot/amber under a nice off white head and lots of lacing. Hoppy and sweet aroma of citrus fruits (grapefruit) and a little peppery spice. Flat-out great hoppy flavor but with planty of well balanced sweetness including a hint of peaches and bubble gum. Many IPAís, even good ones, often cross the precarious line of bitterness but this one dances it like the old Michael Jackson (note the subtle beer writer double entendre). Mouth feel was soft and full. Finish was clean, bitter, slighly oily and in a word: perfect. What else can I say except : when will Stone Brewing make this beer easier to get a hold of in New Jersey?????

UPDATED: MAR 10, 2005 Truly a bitter hops lovers dream. The aroma is amazing but it took drinking this on a few occasions to get acclimated to the bitter finish. Re-rate: Malts improve with age and so does the beer in general.
