as it pours into the glass, you are greeted by a beautiful golden beer, with cascading bubbles and a perfect hop aroma. on the palate, the hoppiness is just right, setting of the nice malty flavors hidden beneath. delicious, drinkable and perfect

Bottle. Had this while camping in the Sierra Nevada Mountains at night by the camp fire. Balanced hops, surprisingly fruity, creamy, dry, crisp. A real treat.

This is Stone? I have to admit I’m usually one of those who is ’not worthy’.Opened the bottle and it didn’t assault my senses. Very nice mellow hop/citrus aroma. Very pretty beer. Taste is a close to perfect balance for an IPA in my opinion. This is definately one of my favorite IPA’s.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 KingPinHead (390) - Des Moines, Washington, USA - JUL 31, 2002
Nice fruity/hoppy aroma--relatively light for a big brew---an even better appearance---lovely orange/gold color with ’busy’ head--lots of lace...Flavors are full and nicely balanced: coming at you initially like an ocean wave...then settling-out into their separate and distinctive personalities...Plenty of body here, too...Finish is complex and covers full spectrum as well--fruity/hop top-end with light-tasting but substantial-feeling malt undertow...The real strength of this IPA is its balance--great mouthfeel and surprising restraint for a brew with this kind of power...most drinkable...

copper colored, foamy off-white head with incredibly beautiful lacing, highly carbonated, smells just like a ruby red grapefruit with a slight metallic hint. citrus in the flavor with the bitterness really coming out in the aftertaste. outstanding IPA...one interesting note, the metallic flavor REALLY comes through when you burp!
4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 Jajoro (11) - Redondo Beach, California, USA - JUL 31, 2002
I find this to be one of the premier American IPA’s. The floral aroma and smooth hoppy finish is what all IPA’s should want to achieve. It is very crisp and clean. Kudos!
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 raindog (560) - Evansville, Indiana, USA - JUL 29, 2002
Hmmm.Rocky, white, long lasting head.Aroma.Do I need to even comment?Somewhat cold was probably the most bitter taste I have ever tasted.Hops were all over the place.Very little malt.As it warms the malts still seem very restrained. It also gains a spicy, hoppy, alcohol tinge to the finish. The aroma and taste don’t seem to click for me.Ruination is suprisingly much more balnced IMO.In other words this tasted like hop juices to me. Right up my alley but quite a few better IPA’s.Including Ruination.

Jesus! the smell! The hoppiest aroma of all time....pure hops and notes of fresh lawn clippings....cool! Color was orange. Taste was benchmark IPA, all hops little malt.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 jayme9874 (756) - Hamburg, New York, USA - JUL 29, 2002
UPDATED: JUL 5, 2006 light amber/peach color. Clear with thin head and lace. Aroma of pine, toasted malt, hint of orange? Medium bodied, huge toasted and citric(orange) malt profile(reminicent of hop devil), piney hops take over leaving a long bitter finish. Very balanced leaving fantastic hop burps to boot! A world class IPA.
