4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bought in the ubiquitous 22 oz brown bomber..with as always the imformative back panel.
Ok this is simply a marvelous IPA to just look at..a work of art it seems a shame to have to drink it! Hazy light amber colour with a fantatsic large creamy white head..even the carbonation strings seem perfect!
Well the aroma of the hops is also great..its a treat to the nasal passages, quite flowery but yet not sweet smelling.
well what can is ay about the taste but hops, hops, hops yet it alo has a creamy sweetness..that isnt completelly over whelmed by the hops ( this must be a Stone thing, I tasted the same in the 03-03-03 Vertical)..very nice.
Great feel in the mouth with just the right amount of hop aftertatse to keep one coming back for another sip.
Most drinkable IPA I ever had..very good indeed.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: JUN 20, 2005 Pours thick, this is a Stone Brew. Head is white in colour, moderate in size and mostly diminishes. Nose is fruity malts and bitter hops that bite at the nasal cavity. Front is heavily sweet malts. Body is hoppy as expected, but it’s the malts that make this such a great IPA. Orange, banana and clove are in there. Finish is pine tree bitter hops with lingering fruity malts. This is truly an extroidnary IPA. Overall, delicious, very drinkable, a spectacular example of the style.

4.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Thanks to Kinz for sending me this brew which backed up its placement on my BeerList. I have had Stone IPA exactly one other time, at a beer tasting party I hosted in February 2000. That was before my Ratebeer days, so all I had was my fond memory of it. Apparently it made an impression on the rest of the attendees at that party as it was the highest rated overall brew among the following other 11 beers: Steinlager, Carta Blanca, Beamish Stout, Zwiec, Young's Oatmeal Stout, Pilsner Urquell, Edelweiss Weissbier, Krombacher Pils, Mendocino Blue Heron Pale Ale, Sierra Nevada Big Foot and Rogue Dead Guy Ale. That's a pretty head group of beers! It's as good as I remember; it's only too bad that I can't get it in my local market!! Sweet hoppy apricot nose with a bit of a sour pungent aroma. Cloudy gold in appearance with good visible carbonation. Small, off-white head with excellent lace and good retention. Piney hops with some creaminess as a cutter. Just the right amount of sweetness. Good warming alcohol at 6.9%. Elixir-like qualities!

Pine and citrus aroma with clear golden amber color and a medium white head. Flavor is excellent with a wonderful hop bite. Alcohol is very well hidden. A great IPA.

3.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 9/20
It's very refined, but almost too "warm" around the edges. The clear taste is superb, but not acidic enough for me. It needs more "edge".

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle: nice aroma (Cascade probobly) head true to style. Strong hop bitterness with malty backbone followed by crisp dry hoppy finish. No holes in this beer. excellent lacing. A bit more straw colored than the regular pale ale but no less malty. The only better IPA I've had is my own.
