Poured bright orange with a thin short lasting head...smelled a little sweet with strong earthy undertones...a little malty and first on the tongue and then very very hoppy...finished crisp and warm...great IPA

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz. bottle. Pours light brown/orange with a fairly small, white head that almost completely disappears. Aroma is hops, slight alcohol, honey, and perhaps slight citrus. Flavor is immediately slightly malty sweet and very, very hoppy, with a tiny alcohol warmth on the way down; pronounced grassiness in the middle. Aftertaste is remarkably bitter, but pretty clean. Not as clean and crisp on the palate as I’d like, wth a slighty syrupiness to the beer. Is this a 4.1? Hell, no. Really good, IPA, though? Sure.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottled. Good sized head, color like in the picture, kind of golden honey with some orange, great lacing, fully lasting head, crystal clear...beautiful, beautiful beer. Very aromatic...sweet, grapefruit, honey, sugar, floral; smells like a good IPA. Front is sweet and malt laden honey and sugar, middle is more balanced with hops and finish is definite hops, powerful hops, but the malts are fully lasting and some alcohol flavor comes in to balance out the hops...it’s fantastic. Bitter, fantastically bitter, but nearly balanced with a long lasting...balanced...finish, slightly sweet. Wow. Fullish medium body, some syrupy character, pleasant, lively carbonation. Good from start to finish and I’m having another.

UPDATED: OCT 12, 2004 I am thankful I can find this beer easily. It has an awesome citrus and floral aroma. The taste is quite bitter and easy to sip on. This stuff is addictive and I will continue to purchase this! RERATE : Had this again tonight oh yeah baby, better than I thought!

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
On tap. Met 2 friends at a bar and I recommend a round of Stone IPA’s. The other 2, having been raised on swill, did not like it. Me neither. I LOVED IT! And I got to drink their pints also! Orange/amber color with a firm but small white head. Incredible citrusy hop aroma. Great hop bitterness which was even better by the time I finished the 3rd
pint. My new favorite IPA.(for now)

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Best IPA I’ve tried yet. Simply perfect. Great light amber/golden appearance with a medium white head. Aroma is well balanced of fruits and hops. Flavor is well-hopped, not too complex, but just great. Slightly citrus, crisp. Could easily drink a bunch of these. Great.

UPDATED: JUL 25, 2004 Favorite IPA -- hops are everywhere without making the beer lazy. Anyone can throw a ton of hops into a beer, but they seem to have found the perfect amount at Stone. The Ruination IPA is nice too, but I think this beer is even tastier. DRINK!
