By definition, an India Pale Ale is hoppier and higher in alcohol than its little brother, pale ale-and we deliver in spades. Now one of the most well respected and best-selling IPAs in the country, this golden beauty explodes with citrusy flavor and hop aromas, all perfectly balanced by a subtle malt character. This crisp, extra hoppy brew is hugely refreshing on a hot day, but will always deliver no matter when you choose to drink it.

Orangish amber body with a nice floral, piney, citrusy and hoppy nose. Very thin head. The tongue had hops on it but seemed thinner than the Ruination and it finishes drier than the Ruination. This is still a damn tasty beer, though. Bitter with a slight sweetness. Finishes dry but with a smooth aftertaste. Good beer.

UPDATED: JUL 13, 2003 So, i buy this yesterday and my brother says it'd be the perfect beer to rate for my 100th beer. he said it's one of the most amazing beers made and i guess it is by looking at the scores on here. too bad i think it's kinda crappy. i like the painted label. i like the color (nice golden with ambery hues). the smell was a bit whatevery. then the taste... first i have to preface it by saying that i love hoppy beers and bitter beers, but whatever good hoppy/bittery taste it has was completely overshadowed by this awful lingering aftertaste. it was so awful that i had to go brush my teeth (twice) and when that didn't kill the taste, i did a shot (or was it three?) of Jim Beam. Yuk! (on a sidenote, my brother says it isn't the freshest Stone IPA he's every had)

Wonderful aroma! The flavor of this beer stands tall among the IPA's I have tasted thus far. The bitterness is fantastic and the acidic and dry finish just kills me. I really think this is an outstanding IPA.

Damn that's a lot of hops. Reminds me of Victory's HopsDevil but without all the nasty spices.

UPDATED: DEC 3, 2003 There was a really nice sweetness in the aroma. Good golden brown color. Nice buttery hoppy taste. This was very good, but had been travelling along with Greg across upstate NY, so I will re-rate this when i get a fresher bottle.

UPDATED: APR 28, 2005 Clear deep golden body with moderate carbonation and a snow white head. Hoppy, tropical fruit aroma suggesting mango and papaya with a toasted biscuity malt underbelly. Great balance and great depth of character. Nice hop kick, but not overpowering or one-dimensional. Pairs very well with food, better than most IPAs. A sentimental favorite of mine and probably the best beer available for the price in my area.

UPDATED: MAR 24, 2005 Rerate Still a damn good IPA, just did not blow me away this time- call it sophmoric excitement from the first time I encountered a Stone affecting my high rating. Original 4.5 Deep dark golden color upon pouring. Head was smaller than expected - but leaves a bit of lacing. The aroma improves as it warms - starts off with a blast of sprucey hops but settles into a warm fruit like nectar. The beer is constantly active in my glass with massive amounts of bubble action. The flavor is initially hoppy and sprucey with a nectar sweet undertone aftertaste. Probably the best IPA I have had to date - does not assault you with hops and leave you hanging without a few malty notes to even it out. Looking forward to the Ruination and Arrogant Bastard that I also picked up at Bacchus in Chattanooga.

My first Stone's and without a doubt, the best AIPA that I've had. A very mature, hoppy, candied-yam aroma. Beautiful bottle, painted label, apricot-colored beer. Hop and pepper character, followed by a fruity sweetness. West coast hops are my least favorite, but this was obviously done with a lot of attention and craftsmanship -- without being ham-handed last minute dry-hopping. Long, sawing hop finish, which fights with the sides of your tongue. A man's beer.
