flatmatt (221), Northville, Michigan, USA Jun 17, 2008 Updated: May 24, 2009Re-rate May 24, 2009. 12 oz bottle. Pours clear golden with a large off-white head. Grapefruit hop aromas with a touch of spice, biscuit, a bit muted aroma overall. Flavor is grapefruit and floral hops with a moderate bitterness. Fairly dry. Lots of lacing. Nicely hop-dominated and quite a great IPA, but I don’t think this is at the 4.2 level I put it at when I was starting out.
Previous rating: 12 oz bottle. Pours a nice bright golden orange with a substantial white head. Strong aroma is very much bitter hops with some citrus/grapefruit and spicy aromas. Taste is bitter up front, grapefruit, spicy, orange, in a nice balance among the latter three flavors. Bitter finish. Excellent IPA. 9/4/8/4/17 charcot25 (181), Cordova, Tennessee, USA Jun 15, 2008 Pours a light amber with rocky white head. Aroma is of candied orange. Taste is sweet with hop notes of orange, grapefruit and spice followed by a solid punch of hop bitterness. Some toasted malt notes as well. Just perfect. xCENOTAPHx (16), Grandview, Texas, USA Jun 14, 2008 Pours an orange golden color with an intense white head that foams up quick and slowly dissipates. Traces can be seen all the way to the finish. Initial taste is clean and crisp, followed quickly by intense and powerful bitterness and some minor alcohol taste. My first IPA, and shall be trying more soon. Not for everybody though, especially if you aren’t expecting the bitter. HonkeyBra (1279), Lemont, Illinois, USA Jun 13, 2008 Updated: Jan 2, 2009Pours orange with this head. Smell is fruity and hoppy. Taste is harsh on the hops, more bitter than anything. Crisp finish, mouthfeel is too thin. Pretty solid IPA.
Re-Rate: just sampled this next to two hearted. No Contest. Two hearted destroyed this one. hoplover (166), Corpus Christi, Texas, USA Jun 10, 2008 Updated: Oct 10, 2008The aroma is a bouket floral and resiny goodness. It pours a perfect pale color that has a nice and creamy small head that sticks around for a good while. Solid latice work. The flavor is outstanding (to say the least) Very pungent hop flavor with a nice lingering warm bitterness. Smooth to a little chunky on the palate (which I like.) Overall a great IPA... one of my favorites. Thank you Stone. The Lord bless the hop harvest. BeerBaron617 (306), Novi, Michigan, USA Jun 10, 2008 Bravo to stone!! I have heard tons of accolades for this brewery, and my local grocery store FINALLY started carrying this. That being said, this is my first brew from Stone, and I am very impressed. Lots of citrus and hopps. Very similar to two hearted, but definitly stands alone with it’s own "style" cale422 (25), Timmonsville, South Carolina, USA Jun 10, 2008 Visited San Diego great brew scene and Stone brewery kicks butt. This IPA is incredible. Light straw color tons of spicy citrus hop aromas and a great flavor to match and it gets better with ists crisp finish. Great brew BOLTZ7555 (1053), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jun 8, 2008 Bottle acquired as a bonus from mcferc4!!! Thanks Rob!!! Incredible dense white head that leaves significant sticky lacing. 24 karat colored brew...crystal clear with solid carbonation. Aroma is bitter grapefruit and citrus. Flavor has a touch of resin. Freshly peeled orange and a touch of sweetness in the finish. Good representation of the style.
