Nik925 (300), California, USA Jun 8, 2008 great hop aroma, good bitterness, more bitter than hoppy. Excellent example of a bitter North Coast IPA trufflepig (12), , New Jersey, USA Jun 7, 2008 As close to a perfect American IPA as I’ve ever tasted (being a hop head). Grapefruit / citrus hop aroma (Simcoe Hop) and nice bitterness - nice body, full flavor, touches of malt and nice lasting head. My only criticism is it needs a little more hops - but that comes in the Stone Ruination IPA. A beautiful thing. Elmowl (12), Annandale, New Jersey, USA Jun 6, 2008 Hazy golden color with hoppy resinous aroma. Crisp. Floral honey bitterness lasts on the tongue. Near perfect IPA and one of my favorites. This one is all about the hops. GMCC2181 (846), Bear, Delaware, USA Jun 4, 2008 Bottle: Nice orange color, small head. Smell of citurs and sweet hops. Taste in citrus hops with a nice bitterness to follow. Light texture. Smooth and easy to drink, Good but not great. I bet it is great on tap though.. psuCE03 (122), York, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 2, 2008 A beautiful golden orange color with a small amount of head that laced until the end. Awesome crisp cirtusy hop aroma. Smooth and malty at first taste but finishes strong on the hops at the end. Best IPA I’ve had. Crafty07 (391), Florence, Kentucky, USA Jun 2, 2008 A beer like this reminds me of the true definition of the word "quality" and that is ’the pecurlar and essential character’
North Coast hopped the hell out of this beer and it shows. But that’s that character of a true IPA, correct?
The commerical description boasts proudly of its 70+ IBUs.
Personally, I believe there is more to a beer than hops..but if you want taste those flowerly little plants in every sip, you drink a beer like this AllAboutStout (605), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Jun 1, 2008 On draft at the Dilly Deli.
One of these beers that I’ve drank quite a few of in the past and never rated.
Pours a light gold in color with a nice frothy inch of head. Smell is crisp, piney and floral hops. Taste is clean, refreshing and more floral hops. Not over the top, but a nice easy drinking, solid IPA. This is an easy warm weather beer. This is too easy of a drinker. Very smooth and nice. gbdub (73), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA May 30, 2008 Stone IPA – Cloudy amber-gold pour with nice white head. Nose is all fruity, citrusy, piney floral hoppiness, with a deep character - I rather like the "cold steel" comment below - there’s that sort of clean robustness to it. Good medium body that suits the style. The hops dominate the flavor, as you would expect in a good IPA. Strong, crisp bitterness that finishes very dry and lingers for a long time on the palate. But there’s just enough sweetness to keep it balanced. Very assertive, and a great beer.
