3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz bottle into shaker. Pours clear orange-amber with a solid two-finger white head. Lots of lacing left on the glass. Aroma is a powerful hop blast: citrus, floral, and pine. A fair amount of caramel and bread malt lies below the trademarked Stone aroma. Taste is medium-high bitterness from citrus peel, pine, and flower hoppiness supported by a nice malty sweet ribbon through each sip. Medium body, slick and creamy, average carbonation, long, bitter finish. Nice to finally drink an archetypal IPA from a bedrock craft brewer.

Golden, clear with nice light yellow foam that lasts somewhat. Fruits, flowers mild citrus in the aroma. mild malt, toffee, with HUGE flowery bitterness, strong bitter aftertaste - grapefruit. High in carbon, almost to high.

Bottle. Clear golden pour with a nice white head. Lacing is evident. Aromas of strong pine and citrus waft from the glass. Nice pungent dank hops throughout. Nice piney burn of hops lingers after the swallow. Awesome drinkable IPA!

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
I had a comparative tasting with one of my friends who isnít used to craft beer of the Stone Pale Ale vs the Stone IPA, the bottles were from Antenna America. I would have thought the IPA would have been darker but it is a deep gold while the pale ale is an orange copperish hue. The aroma is biscuit with herbal & floral hoppy notes while the IPA has more of a citrus & tropical fruit aroma. Taste wise the pale ale has a simple clean bitter lemon profile with a solid malt backbone. The flavor of the IPA is more complex with different fruits popping through lemon, lime, grapefruit, peach & maybe pine in the aftertaste. The malts are hardly in evidence but it is a solid IPA. One thing to be said is both of these beers were best before the end of November-still damn tasty though. Once they warmed up the IPA became more cohesive with pine notes coming through, meanwhile the pale ale got mellow with more caramel nicely counterbalancing the citrusy hops & making the beer appear less acidic. Definitely a more put together flavor profile once they warm up, strangely enough the beers we liked best changed based on serving temperature. Cold from the fridge the pale ale won out but at a higher temperature the IPA was our preferred drink.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz. bottle. Appearance: large white head that diminishes rather quickly, great lacing, golden straw color, slightly cloudy. Aroma: orange zest, resin, grass, caramel, floral. Palate: light body, sticky texture, average carbonation, bitter finish. Taste: slightly sweet, little bit of malts building up to the lasting bitterness that finishes through the taste with the slightest bit of metallic at the end. Overall, solid IPA, but not the best by Stoneís standards; just not balanced as well as maybe it should be.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Itís a hazy yellow color with a poof of white foam. Even though itís well before the best buy date, Iím not sensing the "bountiful hop aroma" as promised. It does have a slight pleasant lemon aroma up front. Bountiful and complex bitter hop flavors and a substatial malt backbone are what make this beer worthwhile, if not quite worth the price tag.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
pours a clear light golden amber color, one finger of a light off white head. bubbles last a while, with great lacing. smell is bready and caramel malts, earthy and slightly citrus hops. i get a bit of lemon. the taste is perfectly balanced, and bittered IPA. more of an east coast style with a lemon flavor. the bitterness lasts a while. overall, a great well balanced IPA.
