By definition, an India Pale Ale is hoppier and higher in alcohol than its little brother, pale ale-and we deliver in spades. Now one of the most well respected and best-selling IPAs in the country, this golden beauty explodes with citrusy flavor and hop aromas, all perfectly balanced by a subtle malt character. This crisp, extra hoppy brew is hugely refreshing on a hot day, but will always deliver no matter when you choose to drink it.

Without a doubt the Hoppiest beer I’ve ever had. I knew right after that moment that it would be ranked really highly on this site. It was a little too much for me, but it definitely wasn’t bad, I’d like to try it again one day.

Stone India Pale Ale is one amazing brew. it pours out a moderately clear golden tint with a small white head with slight lacing. The aroma smells strongly of hops which is definitely expected considering the type of beer. A slight malt aroma is also present but plays a secondary role to the hops. The flavor is tiered. It begins with a malt flavor, moderately sweet that quickly gets passed up by the bite of the hops. It’s a pretty floral beer and it works well with the light body. It all works together it create and strongly flavored IPA with a great bitter bite throughout. Great brew.

Good basic IPA. Nothing really stands out but it tastes like an IPA should.

This brew is strong yet refreshing, crisp and hoppy. The hops triggered a response from my parietal glands. As my salivary glands started to spam, my ears and sinuses reacted in kind. This brew is phenomenal. It is not for those that proclaim patronage to the non-bitter beer institute. As the good book says, don’t cast pearls before swine. This beer is for the conesuer, for one who appreciates perfection. California ales are definitely leading the way for these hop righteous brews. Stone and a few others are defining the new era in IPA brewskies!

UPDATED: APR 1, 2003 My wife was about to kill me for ordering these. Not available in Illinois, so I had six of them shipped from California and it was worth every penny. If you like IPA's, this is excellent. The aroma makes you want to stick your face into the glass until you run out of air. The flavor is very hoppy but also easily drinkable. Dogfish head 90 minute IPA is the only beer I've had with more hop flavor but not near the aroma or smoothness of this one. This is near perfect. Just picked up a keg of this stuff. Not as hoppy as my first impression, but a great overall beer.

12oz bottle. Poured a clear bronze with a nice head and visible lacing. Very floral and citrus aromas that continues into the palate along with piney flavor. This is a very medium bodied IPA with a very smooth upfront taste that finishes with the classic bitterness. This is one of the most unique IPA’s I have tried and is very drinkable.

Stone IPA – Cloudy amber-gold pour with nice white head. Nose is all fruity, citrusy, piney floral hoppiness, with a deep character - I rather like the "cold steel" comment below - there’s that sort of clean robustness to it. Good medium body that suits the style. The hops dominate the flavor, as you would expect in a good IPA. Strong, crisp bitterness that finishes very dry and lingers for a long time on the palate. But there’s just enough sweetness to keep it balanced. Very assertive, and a great beer.

Pale orange in appearance, excellent fruity and slightly malty flavor. Mildly hopped (to my San Diego-style IPA taste buds). Mildly sharp taste on the palate. Overall a great beer; goes down well and is extremely easy to drink.
