By definition, an India Pale Ale is hoppier and higher in alcohol than its little brother, pale ale-and we deliver in spades. Now one of the most well respected and best-selling IPAs in the country, this golden beauty explodes with citrusy flavor and hop aromas, all perfectly balanced by a subtle malt character. This crisp, extra hoppy brew is hugely refreshing on a hot day, but will always deliver no matter when you choose to drink it.

Tap. Golden with white head. Fruity, hoppy aroma, grassy, pine. Taste of citric fruits, little caramel, malty. Medium body and carbonation. Great, balanced IPA.

UPDATED: JAN 11, 2014 Grapefruit and resin in the aroma. The pine and resin come through in the taste, with the bitter grapefruit bringing up in the rear. The perfect amount of malt balance. Just a fantastic IPA.

Aroma, pure hops. loving it! Bitter hop, alcohol, some fennel and slightly nutty in the aftertaste but fantastic warmth comes through at the end. Sticks on the palate for a great while afterward. Awesome beer.

Bottle, Pours a hazy amber with soft effervescent head. Lots of bubbles causes nice lacing. Aroma, Soft hops citrus and spruce. Taste, is mild with pine and spruce and grapefruit aftertaste - some bitterness with dry finish. The hop flavor lingers but never produces the tongue tingle. Its a solid beer but not great

UPDATED: MAY 4, 2004 I agree with all those seduced by the smell of this beer: like a summerdress in a field of cornflowers! The appearence is less inspiring, a kind of taco-shell yellow with a sudsy head. The texture is so pleasingly velvet and the flavor kind of reminds me of waffles and oranges. I expect the hops to be overwhelming, given the reputation of Stone, but they are not: generous and fresh and fruity but not overwhelming. Gentlemen, nits can be picked here, but lets face it, this is one of Southern California's most important beers, a very complicated refreshing and exciting beer that surprises with every sip.

Fantastic IPA! Probably the best standard IPA I’ve had to date. Fantastic aroma, pour, and color! This IPA has everything you could ever want - a fantastic balance, firm hops, yet noticable citrus hops that will entrance your mouth until the very last drop!

Pours hazy gold with a generous solid head. Aroma is grassy, citrus, hoppy. Strong floral hop taste with a nice bitter finish. A great IPA I’ll keep coming back to.

UPDATED: FEB 13, 2009 Appearance: slight haze; good IPA color; huge fluffy off-white head that never goes away Aroma: Very nice but somewhat closed aroma--but its very nice! just the right amount of malt in the background Flavor: Very good flavor profile echoing the very nice nose; however, I might like some more intensity; seems a little restrained; that said, it is very well balanced Mouthfeel: Tremendous! One of the best parts to the beer; smooth, suave, well-balanced

I had to drop the overall rating from 19 to 18 cause I couldn’t put this one over Dogfish Head; though this one is as close as they come. Great, smooth, hoppy beer, just not quite as complex as the previously mentioned.
