By definition, an India Pale Ale is hoppier and higher in alcohol than its little brother, pale ale-and we deliver in spades. Now one of the most well respected and best-selling IPAs in the country, this golden beauty explodes with citrusy flavor and hop aromas, all perfectly balanced by a subtle malt character. This crisp, extra hoppy brew is hugely refreshing on a hot day, but will always deliver no matter when you choose to drink it.

adnielsen (10367) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - JAN 20, 2011
UPDATED: DEC 31, 2011 Bottle @ Old Chicago. Mildly hazy, slightly burnt orange appearance with a frothy off white head. Fairly piney hoppy nose with a bit of citrus and light malts. Piney hops hit mildly in the start and make a much more definite and bitter impression on the finish. Some notes of citrus in the flavor that is a touch darker in malts than many other IPAs. Bitter piney hoppy flavor lingers on the back of the tongue.

UPDATED: MAY 7, 2011 The best affordable beer I have ever tried (the best being Stone’s Arrogant Bastard), I love this IPA so much. It’s a shame I can only find it in one place by the six-pack in Cincinnati (Jungle Jim’s), but the search is part of the fun I suppose. The familiar dark orange color is always a welcome sight for me. The strong but balanced hop flavor satisfies me consistently, but isn’t too hoppy or bitter that my non-IPA loving friends won’t be able to finish it. Such a complex and wonderful flavor, the fruit tones are very appreciated once you try to notice them. Even the bottle is beautiful. I can’t wait to buy another 6-pack of this beer.

Bottle. Poured amber with a white head that laced nicely. Aroma was a nice combination of grapefruit and earthy notes. The flavor had the same notes with the earthy notes taking more of a dominate position.

Bottle. Hazy orange/gold with a large head. Aromas are caramel, pine and spices, quite sweet and surprisingly floral - also, alcohol. Flavours are caramel malts with pepper and spices, followed by bitter hops. Lots of pepper on the finish. Very good.

Bottle. Found at Tyler’s Bottle Shop. Pours a clear gold with moderate carbonation and a medium, white head. Pretty much all around the Ruination times 0.5. Even though I enjoy it a little less, in terms of everyday drinking this is more palatable. The hops insanity is very much toned down here allowing you to enjoy the citrus aroma a little more. The body is smoother and the aftertaste more neutral in contrast to the Ruination’s twenty minute lingering bitterness. For 70 IBU’s this is pretty sweet and creamy- no hops onslaught like you would expect.

UPDATED: OCT 11, 2007 Oct 2007. Lightly hazy orange body with a modest creamy off white head. Modest resiny hop aroma. Moderate bitterness throughout, light resiny character, very muted citrus notes. Smooth average to medium palate. Hops are pleasant but surprisingly muted. May have sat in the cellar just a bit too long. 7/3/7/3/15.
May 2004 Rerate - Hoppier aroma and a lot more resiny than the previous sample. Upped the aroma and overall 1 pt each.
May 2004. Thanks for bringing this great find Radek! (and Tim for the wee bottle I took home with me) Golden yellow colour with a solid white head. Nice hoppy aroma and plent of hoppy bitterness but not nearly as much of either as I expected. Fairly well balanced which I was not expecting either. Very drinkable, and a very nice beer but a bit disappointing. I will likely re-rate with the bottle in the fridge and a fresher palate.
