Bottle at Henrik Øl og Vinstove in Bergen, shared with Elisabeth. Unclear golden. A few patches on the surface. Sweet and bitter aroma of citric hops. Well blended flavour of grapefruit, lemon and orange shells. Malty sweetness beneath. Decent dry bitter ending. A real pleaser to the palate (18.06.2009).

UPDATED: DEC 16, 2011 Lawnmower clippings blowing over honeyed malts...Floral fruitiness surfing grapefruit rinds into a portentous wooden, resinous bitterness...This is a very good IPA, a super clean and very drinkable example of the West Coast’s finest...

Pours dark gold, with a nice white head and great lacing. I swear I saw the Taj Mahal in my lace! Very hoppy aroma, with some citrus. Tastes very hoppy, with a dry, bitter hoppiness. Finishes very smooth and complex, with a creamy, hoppy, great mouthfeel. A delicious IPA, and worth seeking out. One of the best, as usual, from Stone.

UPDATED: OCT 11, 2007 Oct 2007. Lightly hazy orange body with a modest creamy off white head. Modest resiny hop aroma. Moderate bitterness throughout, light resiny character, very muted citrus notes. Smooth average to medium palate. Hops are pleasant but surprisingly muted. May have sat in the cellar just a bit too long. 7/3/7/3/15.
May 2004 Rerate - Hoppier aroma and a lot more resiny than the previous sample. Upped the aroma and overall 1 pt each.
May 2004. Thanks for bringing this great find Radek! (and Tim for the wee bottle I took home with me) Golden yellow colour with a solid white head. Nice hoppy aroma and plent of hoppy bitterness but not nearly as much of either as I expected. Fairly well balanced which I was not expecting either. Very drinkable, and a very nice beer but a bit disappointing. I will likely re-rate with the bottle in the fridge and a fresher palate.

Dogbrick (7634) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - NOV 12, 2002
Tasted at the Barrelhouse Brewing Company Microbrew Fest on November 9. I didn’t think this stacked up to Ruination but it is still a contender. Dry, biting hops keep it interesting but it is still easy to drink. Keep ’em coming Stone!

UPDATED: MAR 25, 2008 I’d been led to believe that this is the benchmark IPA, and it’s easy to see why. The hop attack is huge. It has all that resin, oiliness, pine, grapefruit, flowery character and all the rest you expect. It’s big, bold and brassy. As upfront as they come. But, despite all that, I didn’t find it too aggressive. In fact, I found it a quite smooth drop. OK, its quite straightforward and maybe a touch one-dimensional, but I found it very appealing. Bottle, at the Brickskeller, Washington DC.
