I was intimated by the postings of the lofty critiques: “fresh”, “citrus”, “solid”, “slightly richer for my taste but that is a very small qualm”. The Stone IPA is simply better than I can make and better than any I have tasted in the USA, Europe and Asia.

Nose is floral and soapy. Clear medium amber with a small white head. Light sweet start moves quickly to a quite bitter pine middle and a long dry finish. Medium oily mouth with average carbonation. The archetypical west coast IPA

12 oz bottle into pint glass. Cloudy dark yellow-gold in the glass with a decent foamy head. Smells like the best kind bud imaginable with fruity notes, I say strawberry. Plenty sour, plenty bitter, nice and dry on the palate. Tastes strongly of high quality hops and grain. Extremely bitter but I want to emphasize that it goes down very smooth in the finish. Very pleasant! It's everything I look for in an IPA. If that's your thing, and you like bitterness, I don't think you can go wrong with this. I will consistently come back to this. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap@Brewdog, Clapham - golden amber pour with white head. Aroma and taste is citrus fruity and malty, caramel, some nice tropical hoppy notes as well, great sweet initial hit and bitter balance to the finish. Lovely.

Good basic IPA. Nothing really stands out but it tastes like an IPA should.

Very, very hoppy both in bitterness and flavor, but its actually overmatched by a malty sweetness. Caramely, toasty flavor complimented by a smooth hop flavor. Extra dry-hopping really shows.

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass. Aroma was average, no head at all. Taste was hop foward with a strong finish.

Appearance is a hazy golden, one finger pure white head, a few bubbles rising. Aroma- you can smell this from a long way away. The usual hoppy fruitiness, grapefruit, orange, tropical fruit juice, quite a lot of bready malt detectable too, hints of caramel. Taste- loads of hop bitterness, quite smooth in the mouth, malty, oily hop resins coat the mouth, not that much carbonation, citrus fruits and pineapple juice, zesty orange, a big bitter finish. The malt presence makes this one stand out.

caramel, grass, spruce, citrus, golden, clear, minimal head, white foam, light sweetness, medium bitterness, light body, oily feel, average carbonation, bitter, long finish Blast of citrus pine hops upon pouring. White foam that dissipates fairy soon with light lacing. Bread/caramel malt initially, then medium bitterness takes over. Medium carbonation with a light oily mouthfeel. Spruce like bitterness is the finish that lasts. Pretty dry at the end. Quite good.

I love stone IPAs but this is not one of my favorites. Still better than 90 percent off all other IPAs though.
