By definition, an India Pale Ale is hoppier and higher in alcohol than its little brother, pale ale-and we deliver in spades. Now one of the most well respected and best-selling IPAs in the country, this golden beauty explodes with citrusy flavor and hop aromas, all perfectly balanced by a subtle malt character. This crisp, extra hoppy brew is hugely refreshing on a hot day, but will always deliver no matter when you choose to drink it.

Pours cloudy orange-gold like nectar. Mostly white head settles quickly to a nice bubbled rim with a yeasty coating. Aroma wafts mildly sweet floral citrus hops and bread. Crisp to the palate and mildly carbonated. Orangey citrus and bitter hop city. Somewhat creamy but finishes dry. A little grass and lemon. Fruit flavors somewhat lacking. For bitter hop lovers to be sure and a reference IPA. Ain't no Two-Hearted though and probably somewhat over-rated in my book. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle 50 cl. Golden, hazy with large short lived white head. Lots of Hoppy aroma with some citrus and spices sence. Bitter taste with a nice long Hoppy end.

Nice with a spicy meal, a littl bitter but then again it is an ipa, great standard beer.

I had a comparative tasting with one of my friends who isn’t used to craft beer of the Stone Pale Ale vs the Stone IPA, the bottles were from Antenna America. I would have thought the IPA would have been darker but it is a deep gold while the pale ale is an orange copperish hue. The aroma is biscuit with herbal & floral hoppy notes while the IPA has more of a citrus & tropical fruit aroma. Taste wise the pale ale has a simple clean bitter lemon profile with a solid malt backbone. The flavor of the IPA is more complex with different fruits popping through lemon, lime, grapefruit, peach & maybe pine in the aftertaste. The malts are hardly in evidence but it is a solid IPA. One thing to be said is both of these beers were best before the end of November-still damn tasty though. Once they warmed up the IPA became more cohesive with pine notes coming through, meanwhile the pale ale got mellow with more caramel nicely counterbalancing the citrusy hops & making the beer appear less acidic. Definitely a more put together flavor profile once they warm up, strangely enough the beers we liked best changed based on serving temperature. Cold from the fridge the pale ale won out but at a higher temperature the IPA was our preferred drink.

The pour is a hazy copper with a small white head that quickly diminishes. Amazing pine and citrus IPA aromas, lots of grapefruit. Flavor is strongly bitter pine hop unbalanced with just a little sweet malt backing. The carbonation is a little harsh, but otherwise great thick mouthfeel. Fairly good IPA, plus you can find this basically anywhere.

Pours more golden than copper with a nice rocky head. Aroma is hoppy citrus. Has a nice malty undertone with your standard grapefruit WC hop flavor. Bitterness is pretty high for a non-imperial IPA. Overall, good. Like most of Stone’s offerings.

The last of the 1,000+ ratings Stone beers I’ve had many times before but never rated ! Keg at Stone Brewing San Diego Airport, 22/04/14. Clear light golden with a moderate off white covering that retains well. Nose is bitter citrics, juicy hops, bitter orange, grass, grapefruit. Taste is more agressive than the aroma suggests, bitter hops, grapefrit, light pine, toasted bread, orange pith, grapefruit. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi aggressve hop bitterness in the close. Well balanced easy drinking IPA.

Faint hop aroma, mainly mango, probably a bit to old. Golden clear, white head. Really bitter, just enough maltiness to back up the bitterness without beeing noticed. Light body average carbonation. Nice taste but could have done with more aroma, probably lacks due to age

Tap. 10 oz pour at new bohemia. Light gold with white head and good lacing. Grapefruit aroma. Very hoppy and super dry throughout. This one doesn’t pull any punches.

Pours hazy orange peach. Aroma of hops, peaches and citrus but not as strong as expected. Taste is hops and bitterness. A great IPA but doesn't blow me away. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
