By definition, an India Pale Ale is hoppier and higher in alcohol than its little brother, pale ale-and we deliver in spades. Now one of the most well respected and best-selling IPAs in the country, this golden beauty explodes with citrusy flavor and hop aromas, all perfectly balanced by a subtle malt character. This crisp, extra hoppy brew is hugely refreshing on a hot day, but will always deliver no matter when you choose to drink it.

Bitter to the max... no, really! :D Medium head with lacing. Amber orange. Palate little dissapointing, but still decent. Aromas of pine, citrus, fruity... Nice "on the glass" printed bottle.

On tap at Treno. Light gold pour, white head and nice lacing. Aroma is faint citrus and and not much else. taste is citrus and piney hops with some lemon zest and fresh bread. Medium body with lively carbonation. Probably a great summer beer, but I prefer more depth.

UPDATED: JUN 3, 2014 Pours hazy bright gold into a pint glass, off white lumpy head dies into body in about a minute, spotty lacing with rings, smell has pale malts and hops, some floral notes come out as the beer warms, well balanced, taste is citrus, becomes balanced well between the hops and malts; palate is medium, crisp and clean, sessionable, nothing harsh on the tongue, no aftertaste, piney and malty finish, overall, this is a mostly easy drinking IPA. Iím impressed how well balanced everything is in this beer. I would have this again.

March 2013 - cold bottle on my birthday. My 501st beer since I started recording. The best Stone beer Iíve had so far. Like an artificial sweet with some astringent bitterness. Mild lemon? Not much fruit, not particularly floral either - bit of parma violets. Iím finding it hard to place the flavour. Grapefruit is too easy a comparison. Drying. Reminds me of a few of the Kernel beers. Overall, itís an above average IPA.

22 ounce bottle. Pours a dark gold with a tow inch beige head that lasts. Taste is of hops, pine, citrus, resin, malt and caramel. Has a cleaner, hoppy aroma. The body is creamy and a bit thick. Has a nice, dry and bitter finish that lingers. Overall, a pretty good IPA.

Pours cloudy orange-gold like nectar. Mostly white head settles quickly to a nice bubbled rim with a yeasty coating. Aroma wafts mildly sweet floral citrus hops and bread. Crisp to the palate and mildly carbonated. Orangey citrus and bitter hop city. Somewhat creamy but finishes dry. A little grass and lemon. Fruit flavors somewhat lacking. For bitter hop lovers to be sure and a reference IPA. Ain't no Two-Hearted though and probably somewhat over-rated in my book. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nice with a spicy meal, a littl bitter but then again it is an ipa, great standard beer.

I had a comparative tasting with one of my friends who isnít used to craft beer of the Stone Pale Ale vs the Stone IPA, the bottles were from Antenna America. I would have thought the IPA would have been darker but it is a deep gold while the pale ale is an orange copperish hue. The aroma is biscuit with herbal & floral hoppy notes while the IPA has more of a citrus & tropical fruit aroma. Taste wise the pale ale has a simple clean bitter lemon profile with a solid malt backbone. The flavor of the IPA is more complex with different fruits popping through lemon, lime, grapefruit, peach & maybe pine in the aftertaste. The malts are hardly in evidence but it is a solid IPA. One thing to be said is both of these beers were best before the end of November-still damn tasty though. Once they warmed up the IPA became more cohesive with pine notes coming through, meanwhile the pale ale got mellow with more caramel nicely counterbalancing the citrusy hops & making the beer appear less acidic. Definitely a more put together flavor profile once they warm up, strangely enough the beers we liked best changed based on serving temperature. Cold from the fridge the pale ale won out but at a higher temperature the IPA was our preferred drink.
