Inconsistent, oxidized notes, lacks complexity and balance.

It pours a clear filtered? yellow with a small white head, this could be a pilsner and giving it 3 makes me wonder if I'm too kind just because it's Stone. Aroma is hop essence literally.. with a hint of fuel and quite salty as well together with the more traditional citrus, lemon and grapefruity profiles. A good sniffing which appeals me by its originality. Taste surprises right away being very citric. I simply don't understand how so many people can love it that much since it's so distracting? Neverthless, there's a touch of honey malt and it's very clean. Talking about balance is totally out of place though and it didn't seem particularly pleasant. The body is honest, a solid medium body, but not as mouth-filling as other Stones I've had. Basically, this was totally blown away by the Lost Coast Indica we've had just before. Just altogether way too citric sour for my liking, possibly the tartest IPA I've had to date and while it's a characteristic I truly love in many belgians, it didn't seem to fit here. Thanks Martin!

on tap@mugs in brooklyn. i dunno, every new stone beer i taste i expect might be the one to really convince me how good this brewery is. but this seemed like a pretty typical ipa. a huge amount of hops and some decent marmalade and doughnut sweetness. nothing wrong with it in particular

In a word, boring. It's such a highly-regarded brew, perhaps my expectations were just too high! Incredible golden color, like bottled sunshine! Amazing! But the flavor was too single-note. Super hoppy, sure, but nothing special, nothing to run back to. Like a quick hop fix, or a rush of any kind; ultimately not truly satisfying.

Another IPA that is just way, way too hoppy for this rater. Wow! A small sized white head that was creamy and smooth with fine-medium sized bubbles that mostly diminished. The body was carboned and cloudy with a golden hue. The nose is hops without question and the flavor is bitter and very hoppy. The palate is tingly and hoppy. This is a medium-full bodied IPA with good lacing. Just too much hoppiness for someone who is not a hop head.

Pours a white, two finger-head that vanishes slowly leaving a good lace. Clear light amber color. Medium carbonation and medium bodied. Nose is a strong hop. Starts with hops, somewhere there are malts - there is a trace of sweetness but the hops dominate, bitter finish that lingers. $2.30 for a 12oz bottle from Julio’s Liquors Westborough, Ma.

I felt that this IPA was not as hoppy as it should have been. It has great apperarance once it is poured into the glass. It tastes a little to fruity and lite for me. It is a good beer but I think it tastes to much like Blue Moon and not enough like a bitter hoppy IPA should.

Beer pours a clear, medium-gold color with a small, white, frothy, mostly and quickly diminishing head. Wow! No joke this puppy is hoppy! The aroma is lightly malty with a note of toasted grain, caramel and cookie; Heavily hoppy with dry, complex and nearly over-powering notes of herbs, resin/pine, apricot, grapefruit, orange peel and redwood/cedar. The flavor is moderately-to-heavily bitter, moderately sweet with a long, moderately-to-heavily bitter, moderately astringent finish. There is plenty of warmth here, too, to go along with the grippy, bitter finish. The body is light, the texture is watery-bordering-on-velvety and the carbonation is average.

Bomber. Aroma is dominated by pine with some citrus notes. It’s similar to the pale ale, but stronger and sharper. Color is a clear blonde with a thin white head. Flavor is piney, sharply bitter, lasing into the finish--very one dimensional. Some warming. Overall, pretty disappointing beer. One dimensional, very light, bitter, lacking malt to balance and not nearly as much hop flavor as I’d like. This finished near the bottom of the pack in a blind tasting of 8 IPAs.
