By definition, an India Pale Ale is hoppier and higher in alcohol than its little brother, pale ale-and we deliver in spades. Now one of the most well respected and best-selling IPAs in the country, this golden beauty explodes with citrusy flavor and hop aromas, all perfectly balanced by a subtle malt character. This crisp, extra hoppy brew is hugely refreshing on a hot day, but will always deliver no matter when you choose to drink it.

Pours golden with an orange haze. Nose is citrus with hints of honey, some pineapple.. Fresh mouthfeel, crisper palate than most IPAís (?) but bitter overtone from beginning to finish.

UPDATED: MAY 19, 2012 Great citrusy aroma with a pale golden appearance. Hoppy taste with citrus overtones. Crisp light mouth with a lingering bitter finish. Not bad, a good IPA.

Bottle 355 ml [2011]. Tasted a couple of month after the bb. Appeance: Pours honey whith a medium beige head. Aroma: Hoppy, citrus (grapefruit). Taste: Hoppy, grapefruit and a bitter finish. Overall: Nice IPA but is probably way better when fresh.

Keg at Craft Beer Co., London. Bouquet of floral fruitiness on the nose. Powerful bitter sensations on the tongue, noticably bracing but soft and buttery underneath. And I hear they do even more intense IPAs? Sign me up.

Pours gold with lacing pearl head. Overpowering aroma of sweet bread?? Some citrus and flowery hop, but mostly crescent-esque nose. Flowery citrus flavor with malt backbone. Just solid brew! Expected more... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: SEP 14, 2013 Definitely hoppy as advertised. Didnít find it as citrusy as some have claimed, and would have liked a little more malt to balance the hops, but still very good. Prefer their double IPA, Ruination, which is in my top 5 all-time beers. May re-rate: bumping this up a little. Citrus hits more now that itís been in my fridge for about a week. Super crisp finish. Just let this one rest and get very cold for awhile - itíll wow you more. Ruination is still incomparable, but this is a great single IPA like most others seem to think. Yet another re-rate: I have yet to be very impressed by their aroma, which still stays an above average 7 in my view - other testers have agreed with me. Not even as citrusy as Bellís. Lighter bodied like Bellís, but much more bitter, if that is what you are after. I still desperately want more malt to go with this - taking down from 8 to 7. I like bitter, but I like bitter WITH malts! Lingers nicely, yes, but - malt! Bring the malt! I first rated this 3.5, then 3.7, now 3.6. Their double IPA, Ruination, and their pale ale, are both better than this, IMO.

Keg @ The Euston Tap. Deep amber orange with a big white head. The nose is filled with mango, pinapple, seagrass and wood. Hoppy indeed. The taste is medium bitter, some sweet juicy hop notes. Plenty of tropical fruit with a sugary sweet finish. Nicely balanced, hop-forward indeed, but not overly so. Overall, a very nice IPA. I can only imagine how good it is when super fresh.

UPDATED: FEB 17, 2013 Bottle that has to be fresh. 12 oz. Pours a slightly hazy orange, with a tall, frothy, rich snowy white head. Aroma of frash dry hops, lemon zest, grapefruit, oranges, and herbal/grassy notes. Intensely full body, especially for an IPA, with a tangy, moderately funky palate. Crisp, bitter, ever-so-slightly dry finish. Excellent IPA from Stone.

The logo for this San Diego brewery is a gargoyle, those eerie stone creatures one sees perched along the roofs of great cathedrals, where they serve as rain spouts. Why? This is unimportant; what is important is that Stone produces great craft brew; this IPA is one of the best. It begins in a luxuriant froth, spongy and shimmering, and slowly subsides beneath the glass rim, forming a sudsy crown atop a cloudy pool of gold. The nose detects faint whiffs of apple supplemented by myriad notes of butter. However, the action occurs on the palate; there is an initial citrus explosion, containing various shards of lime and orange, which fades in a quick, but intense, bitterness provided by the generous dry hopping. Pleasant well-balanced mouthfeel brings to close a satisfying quaff and an important reminder of how great craft brew should taste. Still, you gotta love them gargoyles.
