By definition, an India Pale Ale is hoppier and higher in alcohol than its little brother, pale ale-and we deliver in spades. Now one of the most well respected and best-selling IPAs in the country, this golden beauty explodes with citrusy flavor and hop aromas, all perfectly balanced by a subtle malt character. This crisp, extra hoppy brew is hugely refreshing on a hot day, but will always deliver no matter when you choose to drink it.

Hopheads would love this beer. It has a pure a hop flavor as anything that I’ve had before. Personally, I prefer a more balanced beer, so this was a little too bitter for my tastes. But by definition, this is probably the perfect IPA for those who love hops to dominate.

Tastebuds got smacked up by this one. It was a bit too bitter for me, and I seriously didn’t realize this was 6.9% ABV when I had it off the tap.

Bottled. Orange golden colour, mediumsized white head. Fruity hoppy flavour and aroma. Wellbalanced flavour, which also has some malts and caramel in it.

Clear copper beer with a medium white head . Aroma is sweet and citrusy, but ithe flavor does not follow, only offering hops and water. Certainly better than your average IPA, but easily bested by any of Stone’s other IPA offerings. $2/12oz

Bottle to shaker (pounder). Pours out a pale gold colour with a light creamy white head with nice lacing. Scent is light earth and sweet floral hops. The hop is abruptly agressive and then quickly subsides to mild sweet hops. Taste is as above- abruptly aggressive hop elements with a grain element additionally intermixed. Mouthfeel is smooth and the finish is amazingly smooth if not a bit quick. A good brew overall but it unfortunately seems a bit short lived and relative to other stone brews slightly lacking in aggression.

Clear tangerine, ebullient bubbles terminateing in a lumpy whipped cream head. Magnificent lace. Aroma disappoints with its mild ambiguity… butterscotch, parmesan, bubblegum, pinesol; an inauspicious beginning. I think Stone forgot to dryhop this one. Crackery malt evokes sensations of orange blossom honey and breadcrust, while resiny hops brand a double-edged blade of hot/cold spice: cinnamon and peppermint. Fleeting off-dry finish dosed with lemon pepper. Substantial palate, sensual and lubricatory. Citric, floral, and burnt sugar/cigar ash hop aftertaste. Bitter but not cloying. Decent IPA, though far less flavorful than expected.

I was expecting so much more. Run of the mill IPA for me. FFF pale ale had more hop character than this...

12 oz bottle 6.9% ABV. Pours cloudy amber and flat, next to no head to speak of. Aroma is hoppy and even though the ingredients are simple, a bit fruity. This is an OK IPA with the typical hoppy bitterness but nothing that stands out. Stone has many other versions of the IPA that are superior.

I was not thoroughly impressed with this beer, the aroma is there but only after pouring it out of the bottle, smelling it after opening it left me with virtually no impression of the beer. The strong bitter impression I expect from a good IPA just isn’t strong enough, it’s almost too smooth. Perhaps I’ve been drinking too much Dog Fish Head and Great Divide, but this just does not stack up for me.

Poured into standard shaker glass. Very piny and fragrant citrusy aroma full of lemon zest notes and Colorado winter skiing. That was the highlight for me though. Taste is smooth but not enough malt balance a la Dogfish 60/90 Minute IPA. Refreshing but a bit standoffish with the finish. Mouth feels cottony and too dry after sips. If you enjoy the bitter hop finish then reach for this. It was fun to enjoy a bottle but I won’t make extra effort to purchase this.
