Oakes (6979), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Mar 9, 2006 Ancient mild...sure, what the hell. Brownish-amber colour. Light haze. Oxidized, pruney taste. Smooth dark mild style malts with some plum...a little bit nutty as well. By all rights, this should be undrinkable, but it has a full body, rounded if oxidized flavours and a decent malt complexity. I would drink more if I could. omhper (10728), Stockholm, Sweden Feb 23, 2006 Bottled (1999 vintage). Clear reddish brown. Nutty, rosty papery nose. Fairly dry, crisp and spicy with clean mouthfeel and low carbonation. Low bitterness. It’s still fresh, alive and full of character. ClarkVV (3547), Allston, Massachusetts, USA Aug 26, 2005 Updated: Aug 28, 2005Bottle from Eyedrinkale. Sherry aroma is beautiful, is this beer, or is this sherry??? Nutty, and no cardboard. Caramelly and lightly alcoholic. Caramel orange with a trickle of bubbles rising to form a small white head, just a slight, flimsy head. I can’t stop smelling this shit. Flavor is just puzzling. Vanilla, creme brulee and maybe a touch of roast. What the hell is this? A beer or a sherry clone? Light touches of zesty carbonation grace the palate, there is NO wateriness or thinning. It’s like hazelnut and creme de cacao with lingering nuts and marzipan (learned that word from tiggmtl, he likes it). Great beer, I really don’t think I’m kidding myself when I say that I could drink another couple glasses. I would defintely buy this beer if it was in stores in this condition. Crazy. egajdzis (3021), Terrapin, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 26, 2005 Poured an amber color with a small, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of nuts, caramel malt, cocoa, smoke, and wood; lightly oxidized. Taste of nuts, caramel malts, more wood, and vanilla. Thanks Mike! Eyedrinkale (3111), Beer Town, New York, USA Aug 26, 2005 Rich chocolate aroma, thin head. Really tasty. Still good even though the small millipede that poured out was a bit weird.
