jonno (542), Brisbane, Australia Jun 29, 2009 For a beer with alcohol this low this was really flavourful. It poured beautifully dark amber. Body is understandably light. THe trademark stone hops abound. Really good drinking, if it weren’t for the price here in Japan (about $6 US) FROTHINGSLOSH (1961), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 28, 2009 Sampled on draft at Smokin Joes in Pittsburgh PA this beer poured a dark caramel-amber color with a trace of a beige head. The aroma was fruity, nutty and had a caramel undertone. The flavor was bitter and had a slightly rough fruity and floral hop presence with a light sweet malty undertone and a touch of caramel and nut. The finish was medium length and full of fruity and floral hops. The mouthfeel was moderately thick. Subtle for a Stone product. Nicely done. Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Jun 28, 2009 12 oz bottle. Amber pour with a nice white head. fruity nose, peach and citrus, sweet caramel. Flavor is sweet caramel tinged with citrus and earth. Pretty nice drinker, very sessionable. jb (1024), Rochester, New York, USA Jun 27, 2009 Nice looking, traditional amber, dark orange. Decent head, decent retention. Pine aroma along with smokiness. Palate is nice, a bit light and foamy and not overbearing, yet lush. Malty too, caramel, nutty, real good offering. 17thfloor (1403), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 26, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours a darker brown amber, clear, glowing with a big frothy light tan foam on top. Aroma is quite hoppy, peachy, citrus, some special malt. Flavor follows, very bitter for an amber, super hoppy, citrus fades under the bitterness, grapefruit, green hops, really swings it out of balance with the malt nearly into IPA territory, some glassy hard candy toasted sweet malt. Very sessionable, big hop flavor with lighter malt profile and quite drinkable at 4.4%. Medium/light bodied with lots of sharp fluffy carbonation, just slightly sticky but mostly a watery mild-ale type feel. Excellently crafted. Crit (2399), New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada Jun 25, 2009 Cloudy amber, small beige head.Great citrus nose.Nice tart hop profile, earthy malt in back. OD40oz (600), Box Elder, South Dakota, USA Jun 25, 2009 This beer was badass. Copper red with a HUGE off-white foamy head. It had a grassy hoppy smell with a good deal of grapefruit. Definitely a grassy, grapefruit taste with a crisp hoppy finish. This beer was the shit. SFLpunk (132), South Burlington, Vermont, USA Jun 24, 2009 12oz brown glass pry-top bottle. Etched 07/07/09 around bottom.
Appearance: Rough pour turns up 1.5 fingers of tan creamy head that recedes at a moderate rate leaving substantial lacing. Slightly hazy amber color.
Nose: Big hop nose: citrus rules this beer and some fresh cut pine and green pine nettles.
Palate: Light- to medium-light-bodied. Turns somewhat watery quickly. Some light biscuit malt and some "flash-in-the-pan" citrus hop notes. Beer is light and quick, but packed with those oh-so-awesome Stone flavors.
Notes: A great sessionable beer. Best way I’ve heard it described is an "extreme session" beer. Light, but packed with good flavors and layers.
