SSSteve (2047), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Apr 2, 2009 clear amber under a large creamy froth. aroma is citrus hop dominated. flavor is tea-like with some biscuity malt, mild pine needles, lemon, pepper. smooth light palate. a little too hop dominated IMO for an amber. GAManiac (1123), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Apr 1, 2009 12oz bottle poured into a tulip.
Pours a deep, clear amber with a huge fluffy white head that recedes to a sizable cap and leaves a little bit of lacing.
The aroma is full of pine and other evergreen aromas, definitely lots of resin in the nose. There is a little caramel malt but the hops of the star here.
The taste has a big abrasive hop bitterness up front that is barely balanced by the malt backbone before a much more recognizable pine hop flavor lingers through the finish.
The mouthfeel is light to medium but certainly decent given the low ABV on the beer.
This is a very drinkable amber and they certainly crammed plenty of hops into a fairly light beer. Very good. jimmack34 (560), Lancaster, Ohio, USA Mar 30, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours dark coppery brown with a soft, persistant beige head. Smells of pine, flowers, and some citrus. Tastes of caramel, bread, pine, grass, and earthy. Very nicely bittered. thebeertourist (2751), Oslo, Norway Mar 28, 2009 Bottle from Utobeer. Deep red copper. Potent citrussy hop aroma and flavours, less so in the mouth. Body is lighter than appropriate. Starts out as Superman, ends up like MisterMuscle. Promises too much. LtJudge (431), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA Mar 26, 2009 Bottle- Pours a dark amber color with a small off white head. Great aromas of hop and pine and some citrus. Very little malt aromas detected.. Flavor is of hops..but not much else. Very little malt backing which makes the body seem rather thin. But the finish is very crisp and clean. This could be a decent session brew when you want alot of hop flavor. Schroppfy (1810), Ohio, USA Mar 24, 2009 Malty nose, earthy, bready. Some citrus in the aroma but a ton in the flavor - lemon, and bitter rind. Very drinkable, finish is sticky at the back of the throat but yummily grapefruit, drying and hoppy. This beer is packed with flavor and not at all watery, even the body is a bit slippery - has some viscosity to it. I’m glad this made it to Ohio - I’ve been wondering all these years. Now that I think of it, El Toro’s Poppy Jasper was a bigger version of this beer, nicely blended flavors. LilBeerDoctor (1480), East Setauket, New York, USA Mar 24, 2009 Bottle. Pours a clear amber/brown with a small white head. Aroma of bready malts and some light fruits. Flavor similarly is dominated by bready, doughy malts and light floral hops with a bitter finish. Flavorful and quite drinkable. Nice amber.
7/4/7/4/15 (3.7/5) buckeyebeerman (11), Ohio, USA Mar 24, 2009 pours a reddish brown with cream color head. slight smells of piney hops. has a little bitterness but not much else. not one of my favorite stones
