This deep amber ale has rich & roasty malt flavors, a big hoppy character, citrus overtones (courtesy of the hops and our special brewers yeast) and modest alcohol.

The aroma is a mix of caramel malts, and earthy hops. The appearance is a dark amber, clear, off-white head. The flavor is earthy, citrusy, caramel. The finish is grapefruit hoppy. Thin/medium mouthfeel. Not bad overall, nothing to write home about.

Amber ale??? I thought this was an IPA.... oh well....Cool sketching on the bottle. Poured into a glass... Great nose of citrus hops. Red in color, decent head. Texture was a little on the thin side... a little disappointed. Taste was malty with light hop base... just boring... Sorry I will stick with Stones IPA any day. Skip this one, your not missing much.

UPDATED: AUG 12, 2009 Bottle from Half-Time. Pours a slightly hazy ruby red body with a medium sized tan head. Nice hoppy/malty aroma with some cherry notes. Medium bodied. Balanced hops and malts with some significant bitterness and spice. Somewhat of a thin finish. Yet another solid beer from Stone, even with the low ABV.

Cask@GBBF. Clear amber color, small white head, some lace. Sweet and hoppy aroma: some lime, caramel. Hoppy (some cat pee), grass, alcohol, caramel. Long sweet hoppy aftertaste.

This certainly isnít the best beer brewed by Stone, but it isnít all that bad either. It poured a dark amber color with a very generous off-white head that left lots of lacing around the glass. The nose was full of malty and bready notes, along with some hoppy tones. The body was rather light in character and bland in flavor. It certainly isnít what Iím used to drinking from Stone. This is supposed to be a session beer, but I donít think I could drink several of these in one sitting. The finish was a little hoppy, but was overwelmingly malty and a little bland.

Bottle, pours a nice amber color with a tan head that is fluffy. Hop forward aroma. Nice easy to drink, some crisp hops, almost a quaffer, I think its nice not overly obnoxious like some Stone brews.

THOUGHTS: I couldnít believe Stone made a session ale. It was a little watery for something as hoppy as it was. With all the hops I donít know how long of a session it could be for me. Overall it was a lot of flavor for a low alcohol beer. The hop aroma was nice, but the hop flavor was a little weak. The bitterness on the other hand was high. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, dark brownish amber with an average to large, off-white head that kept a thick sheet and left good to excellent lacing. The aroma was moderate grain, toasted and nutty malts caramel and toffee, and moderate pine citrus, lemony hops along with slightly less herbal hops. The initial flavor was sweet, bitter and acidic; while the finish was bitter and acidic with a fairly long duration. There was caramel, toasted malt, tea, lemony citrus hops, pine and a little bitter hops. The light to medium body was fairly dry with fairly soft carbonation and a metallic and slightly chalky finish.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a large sized head of foamy fine to medium sized tan colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a transparent typically carbonated golden red brown colored body and a thick foamy lacing. The aroma was cloven hoppy and malty. The crisp mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The semi-thin flavor contained notes of hops. A decent one that I would consider buying again.

Pours clear dark amber / copper with a rocky beige head. The aroma is quite hoppy with floral and tropical notes along with smooth citrus along with a solid toasted malt backbone. Medium body with a touch of harshness and some prickly carbonation. The taste shows lots of oxidation with plenty of woodiness and some pine. There is some toasted malt as well. The finish is fairly harsh. This was still consumed before the íbest byí date, but hopefully I can get a fresher bottle in better shape at some point to rerate.
