4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Celebrating an incredible Ravens win in 2OT! Rich, deep brown hue, a beautiful even head -- classic looks. Interesting aroma, hinting at chocolate, varnish, dark fruit. This drinks with an equally complex character ... rich and malty, but piled with all kinds of subtexts -- honey, caramel, tree sap, and grapefruit in the very finish. Nice. (#4897, 1/12/2013)

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 1/31/2013. Pours slightly hazy red amber color with a 2 finger dense light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, orange zest, tangerine, floral, grass, orange rind, toast, caramel, oak, pine, bread, and herbal earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of hop/malt notes. Taste of grapefruit, orange zest, toast, tangerine, citrus rind, caramel, pine, floral, grass, bread, oak, and herbal earthiness. Good amount of citrus piney bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, citrus zest, citrus rind, floral, pine, caramel, toast, grass, bread, and herbal spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Excellent flavor complexity of hop flavors with a nice malt balance; and minimal cloying bitterness present after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with and fairly creamy and sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very excellent American strong ale. Great hop complexity and balance of malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
22oz dark red pour with a white head of cream. Aroma is rich malt and spicy and bitter hops. The flavor is dominated by bitter hops. The malt backbone is deep in the background; not the star of the show. Body is full and well rounded. The hops seem a bit raw and rough, but definitely a powerful statement.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 9/20
This is one complex brew. Hoppy, malty and sweet at the same time. Gotta love anything that come from the taps of Stone Brewing. ... we are still not worthy of this beer!

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured into a snifter out of a 22oz bomber.
Pours a clear ruby red with just a thin wispy head. Even with the lack of a substantial head there is very nice lacing throughout.
Aroma of piny hops mixed with burnt caramel. Some maple syrup along with a healthy dose of oak. Burnt toast and rye bread round out the aroma. Really a heavy, roasty, caramely, complex aroma that is extremely inviting.
The flavors continue the themes found in the aroma but on a much more intense scale. Tons of oak and pine with a healthy dose of caramel thrown in. Some burnt character and a spicyness that is reminiscent of rye. Fairly intense bitterness throughout balanced my sweetness. Mouthfeel is slick with a good amount of stickyness in the finish.
Overall, this is my favorite of the Bastard line. Really so much going on here and I really love the oak character. Perfectly blended and really one to savor.

Served from a bottle. Dark copper color. Hoppy aroma with caramel sweetness. Hop bitterness is balanced nicely by the sweet malt.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
It poured a dark amber color with a small beige head. The aroma was of piney hops and some caramal malt. The taste was of caramel malt upfront with sweetness and a spicy hop aftertaste. Very well done.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Strong hoppy aroma. Dark amber colored and cloudy with a thin head. Hoppy and bitter at first but not overpowering. Finishes smooth and dry with oaky notes. Very good.
