3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from brewery. Looks like a bastard in the glass. Aroma is pine, citrus, hops, and sweet malt. Taste is dominated by somewhat bitter hops although the bitterness if relatively restrained by Stone standards (perhaps the oak influence). I also taste dark malt, underlying caramel, and an alcohol tinge after the finish. Solid enough beer.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured a very dark brown with a foamy off-white head. Aroma is very hoppy with fruit and citrus. Slightly oak-ey notes as well. Taste is quite hoppy but with a good amount of sweet fruity flavors. Finish has lots of caramel malts. Hops are slightly floral. A tad smokey with some oak? Overall a very good IPA, it is very crisp and drinkable. Not too sweet or too bitter, the balance is just right.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
22oz bottle. Dark orange-red with a small light brown head. Pine and candied citrus hop aromatics, some underlying maltiness. Heavy piney resinous hop character, somewhat medicinal bitterness. Some caramel and alefruit in the finish, with a lingering grassy hop component. Mouthfeel is a light medium, somewhat dry.

4.4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bomber->trappist: Pours an ultra-thin, brown, quickly diminishing head atop a murky amber body. Aroma of citrus, sugar, and candy. Body is medium, long on the palate, starting out lightly sweet, then going moderately bitter far into the aftertaste. This beer is not deceptive--it lets you know you are consuming a much higher ABV than usual--which hopefully the drinker will take into consideration. Another fine brew from Stone.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a dark copper color with a very dense creamy, tan head that really is rather impressive and long lasting. Aroma has a strong piny and citrus nose of Chinook as well as a mild oak and low toasted malt nose. Flavor has an awesomely strong and slightly harsh piny presence, a light toasted middle and a modest citrus ending with a light oaky kick to finish it off. Body is modest with a very, very, very creamy feeling. Overall a very tasty brew with a very bitter, slightly rough hoppiness that is kicked up a notch from the light oaky finish. The head on this beer is one of the more impressive ones I have seen in a long time as it entices you to sip, leaving a foamstash as proof you drank it.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22oz Bottle thanks to Toby. Pours out a mahogany topped with a sand head. Aroma was of tropical fruit, lots of citrus, caramel, and a touch of wood. Taste was much the same with lots of hops and thick rich malt sweetness.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22oz bottle. Pours a mostly clear, deep ruby-brown colored body with an inch thick, dense and frothy, tannish beige head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice, sticky lacing throughout. Very pretty beer. Aroma is fresh and fruity with lots of dry hops. Sweeter citrus pines and a light resin with floral oranges, pineapples, and grapefruits. A sweet caramel backing with some golden raisins, melons, and barely a hint of oak. Flavor has lots of piney, resiny, dry, sharper hops up front. Some mild oak, a fruity mixture, and a somewhat denser caramel with a light sweetness that provides just enough balance with the bigger hops. Just barely a hint of toasty cookie to the caramels. Finishes very dry, piney, and has a medium-high bitterness with a lengthy, citrusy aftertaste. Medium, dry body and a fairly lively, but soft and creamy carbonation that works really well with this. Overall, a very enjoyable beer. Tons of dry, piney hops with a nice citrusy aspect and a solid malt balance that still allows the hops to dominate. A nice blend of the bastard and double bastard.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bomber. This beer is wonderful!!! Pours very dark amber, with very thin head, that quickly dissapates. Aroma is very citrus (grapefruit), pine/grassy, and with some light vanilla undertones. The aroma is very IPA smelling, even though it lists as a strong American ale. First sip confirms the aroma, again grapefruit, very piney/grassy, with oily mouthfeel, with a nice hoppy, bitter finish. Again, it tastes like an IPA also. This is a IPA masquerading as a American Strong Ale, and it isn’t doing a very good job of it. I love IPA, the hoppiest, bitterest ones you can find. And I love this beer.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz. bottle. Served at cellar temperature. Pours a medium, short lived, light beige head, with some lacing, over a clear, copper brown (SRM 18) body.....nose is heavy grapefruit, lighter pine, bit of toffee/caramel.....taste is light toffee/caramel sweet to start, then heavy layers of resin, pine, grapefruit bitterness arrive and linger, accompanied by lighter pineapple and licorice, there is a tiny bit of vanilla....mouth feel is thick and sticky, carbonation creates a lingering foam. This is not a subtle beer. It has loads of hop aroma and bitterness with minimal hop nuance. The malts are there, but the hops cheerfully overwhelm them, as is typical in the Bastard/Basartd series. It is delicious, if you like BIG hops. BJCP 7/3/15/4/8
