Lukcy Basartd is a dry-hopped meeting-of-the-Bastards in a in-the-fermenter-blend of Arrogant Bastard Ale and Double Bastard Ale…with a perfect balance of the essence of OAKED Arrogant Bastard Ale. All in all, one awesome Bastard.

Lukcy Basartd Ale will be released in November and should be available in many of the enlightened locations where the liquid Arrogance is typically found.

This is a ‘once only’ special release commemorating the 13 year anniversary of when Arrogant Bastard Ale was first released upon the unsuspecting public. That is, ‘once only’ unless we decide to make it again.

FROTHINGSLOSH (5250) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 19, 2011
Sampled on draft at D’s in Monroeville this beer poured a very dark red-amber color with a large creamy tan head that lingered forever and produced incredible lacing. The aroma was orange, pine, grapefruit and wood. The flavor was bitter and intense pine and grapefruit - fairly harsh and boozy with light undertones of caramel and wood. The finish was long, dryish, bitter, hoppy and harsh. Medium body. Ok.

Draught at The Blue Monk, Buffalo, NY. Pours a nice deep orange-amber with an average size semi-lasting frothy white head. Lovely hoppy aroma, I mean it’s just hops and pretty much nothing else but I love it. Flavour’s pretty good, nice and hoppy, though not the hops I would’ve chose -- still very good though it’s a bit too boozy. Finish is very bitter and alcoholic. Average to medium bodied. Quite good but like I said, a bit too boozy to be a favourite.

Bouteille, couleur cuivre, mousse est épaisse et beige. Au nez, je détecte de suite les notes de ’dry-hopping’ avec un arôme qui est très centré sur le houblon. En bouche, une signature Stone et californienne, bien houblonnée sur des notes de pin, de fruits notamment de pamplemousse avec en arrière une fine couche de malt grillé et de caramel, vague note de sucre brun. Réchauffant au palais, on y ressent bien l’alcool. Fini est amer et un peu simple dans sa dimension tout en restant un peu sirop collant aux lèvres. J’aurai plutôt mis la bière dans le style des doubles IPA, mais bon, c’est juste mon avis.

Not the best offering in the Bastard series of beers from Stone. This one features a dark amber color with a minimal off-white head. The nose features some hops, citrus, yeast, bread and earth. The big downer of this beer is the odd, yeasty and alcoholic flavor. The balance seems a bit off. I got a lot more yeasty and earthy flavor than spicy hops.

1/14/11. Bomber courtesy Ian! Huge hoppy aroma loaded with fresh grass and citrus. Hugely bitter flavor that lingers sweet and caramelly with an exhale of huge fresh hops. Solid!

Thanks Hayduke! Pour is clear dark copper brown with a decent light tan head. It never quite fades completely. Nose is grapefruit, raisins, spice, and caramel. Grapefruit tartness and bitterness are prominent throughout. They are not shy, either. Raisins, toastiness, tangerine. A fizzy feel but it is also substantial. Monsterous hops. Massive amounts of malt, too but they are over matched. Delicious, huge, and fantastic.

20110117 bomber from Wine World. Not a huge difference overall here from a fresh Double Bastard, but it does have a sharper resinous bitterness a a more subdued sweetness that is replaced by a woody smoothing. Lingering bitterness and some bubblegum. Almost immediate resinous hop burps. A bit less carbonated than I recall for the Bastards, but maybe just my imagination. Anyway, it’s pretty good and I enjoy seeing Stone take a tongue in cheek approach to this idea rather than just labeling it a grand cru, which I suppose they could ahve rightly done.

Dark amber pour with an off white head. Aroma is sweet and pungent. Medium to full body with a syrupy sweetness that finishes strong, bitter and a little alcoholic. I can’t say that I can distinguish between the different bastards that are mixed in while drinking this but the feel is more closely related to Double Bastard.
