Lukcy Basartd is a dry-hopped meeting-of-the-Bastards in a in-the-fermenter-blend of Arrogant Bastard Ale and Double Bastard Ale…with a perfect balance of the essence of OAKED Arrogant Bastard Ale. All in all, one awesome Bastard.

Lukcy Basartd Ale will be released in November and should be available in many of the enlightened locations where the liquid Arrogance is typically found.

This is a ‘once only’ special release commemorating the 13 year anniversary of when Arrogant Bastard Ale was first released upon the unsuspecting public. That is, ‘once only’ unless we decide to make it again.

Pours red-brown and transparent with a fairly large and foamy light brown head and strong lacing. Nose is potent floral hops akin to a strong IPA with a little apple and brown sugar malt. Flavor is less powerful, for lack of a better word, than the other "Bastards", with the sweet malt stepping forward more than in those. Hops are still quite strong and it’s a bitter experience but smooth, lightly sugared flavors are a new sensation among the Arrogants. Finish is relatively short and bittersweet. Alcohol is very well hidden. An excellent ale, like most everything from Stone Brewing Co., but it’s not as in-your-face as I hoped.

Bottle shared by a friend. Opaque copper pour with a thin beige head. Aroma of sweet caramel, grassy hop, a bit of cherry and pee. Malty flavor with caramel character with some bitter grassy hops on the back end. Not bad, but lesser than the sum of its parts for sure.

Bottle. Slightly off-white head on a orange-copper body. Lots of nice hoppiness in the aroma, but also comes with some caramel and oak. Piny hop aromas continue through into the taste with a good deal of woodiness from both the hops and the slight oak AB addition. Very dry aftertaste, and was glad to not pick up on too much caramel. Just enough for some solid balance. LIngering hop burn on the palate. Medium body with bubbly carbonation. Nice drinking, but having a hard time not liking the individual components more.

Dark amber/cider color; Medium body; Aroma of caramel malt, spicy hops, & pine; Flavor of sweet malt, rich spicy hops, citrus (notably grapefruit), and some caramel; Finish is bitter with some alcohol; Nicely balanced & complex; Overall, another version of Arrogant Bastard - quite good.

22 ounce bottle. Served in a DFH Signature Glass, the beer pours a hazy reddish/copper color with about an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. Aroma is mostly citrusy (grapefruit, orange peel) and pine hops, along with some caramel malt. Taste is citrusy and pine hops, caramel malt, and some vanilla and oak. Not surprisingly, there’s a nice lingering bitter hoppy finish. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s creamy and a bit slick with good carbonation. The smoothness of this brew helps make the drinkability good. I think it’s a good overall brew, definitely worth a try. With that being said, I like the other Bastards more than this one. It was still a cool idea to blend them anyway!

UPDATED: JAN 2, 2013 I’m a big fan of all 3 Bastards thus was quite anxious to try this one. Full, inviting hop aroma Stone has come to be known by. I get hints of all 3 of the original beers but the oak aged definately stands out. Makes this quite smooth and dangerously drinkable at such a high ABV. A top notch brew - i’ve come to expect nothing less from Stone.

Draft at Isaac’s. Pours a dark, almost opaque brown with a thick brow head. Nose is highly hopped with some boozy oak tones. Taste is really special. Initial bittering hops aren’t overpowering, but the flavoring hops give this beer a deep, complex bitterness. This is balanced out nicely by an oak finish complete with vanilla, booze, and dark wood. Finishes sticky on the tongue, leaving a hop flavor coating the tongue. Really a great blend of Stone’s series.

22 oz bottle. Pours a ruby red with nice tan head. Nice hoppy aroma with lots of citrus and some vanilla hidden in there. The hoppy taste is actually quite subdued once you actually take a sip, with very little lingering bitterness. Almost a bit spicy on the tongue. Good mouthfeel, not watery at all. I’m impressed with this, although I knew I would be as I watched it pour out of the glass--the fire red color is truly impressive.

Pours a cloudy burnt orange/amber. Aroma of citrus, tea, pine with hints of wood and earth. Flavor is citrus, pine, wood, resin. Very hop forward with a caramel, vanilla, wood coming through in the middle. The finish is bitter with a brown sugar and earthiness. A nice melding of flavors of all the bastards!

Pours a dark brown, medium foam .. . wow, what a beer to start the day.. . tons of fresh sap, bark, resin, molasses, and burnt toast with hop jam .. . a quality brew but meant for a nightcap, to much for 1pm .. . Had on tap @ the Gingerman, Jan 9th 2010 ..
