4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours deep clear mahogany into a Sam glass. Off-white head with excellent retention leaves spot lacing as it recedes to coat surface. Oak and resin aromas. Thick and well balanced with upfront oaked, followed by a double hot resin and a lasting bastard pine finish. Nice.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle thanks to 17thfloor for sharing. Pours a deep golden amber with a creamy off white head. Aroma is fantastic, very citric, super mango and tangerine and tropical fruit notes with some juicy fruit and just a bit of piney hops. Flavor is much less fruity but still there, the pine notes come out more, as the hops are more balanced with the caramel malts and other sweet candy malt notes. Aggressive hoppy finish, fairly bitter but doesn’t bite too badly. Medium body and a sharper carbonation. Very nice, especially as it warms a bit.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Fairly dark orange/brown with nice 2 finger head. leaves good lacing.
Smells of Hops, pine, citrus, orange, grapefruit hops and sweet brown sugar and caramel. nice balance.
Taste is a great mix of the hops and malts. pine, citrus hops with carmalized and sweet sugar rich Malts. some alcohol presense. again, a nice balance. Medium plus body with mild to med carbonation, good hop bite and dry finish, sticky in the mouth and throat with a medium alcohol warmth. A nice surprise this one was! Great balance of the piney and citrus hops with the sweet caramels, sugar and malts. I’ll be going back for more!

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Poured dark ruby brown color with an average frothy brown head that lasted and produced good lacing. Moderate to heavy complex toasted malt, earthy hop and wood aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy balanced bittersweet flavor with a solid bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid complex beer.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a dark amber brownish color, nose is a little weak, mild notes of citrus and floral hops, hints of candy sugar and oak. Taste is quite nice, really fruity and juicy, surprisingly easy to drink, light in body with decent residual sweetness. The oak compliments without competing. I’m actually shocked that stone was able to put together two beers that are similar from the get go, and create a beer that is so unique.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
growler poured a dark plumb brown in color with a thin off white head. aroma has sticky hops, pine resins, some citrus, sweetness, and a nicely malted base. mouth feel is big and chewy. flavor gets some bitterness going, pine, medium sweetness, a bit of the oak bastard, and some alcohol on the finish.

3.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
A big fan of the original bastard, this version tastes very hopped up, but also very malty, has a bit of a sweetness and bitterness to it as well, the most hopped of the bastards I have had, not getting the oak quality in it, but overall still a solid beer from Stone, and a welcome twist on an old fav. Hints of a strong red ale as well. Good quality ale.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Deep red pour with a light yellowish tan head. Aroma of fresh pine, caramel, citrus rind, light fruits, biscuit malt and wood. Flavors are bright and bittersweet, lots of pine a citrus bitterness with a light caramel/tropical fruit sweetness, spicy woody notes throughout. Somewhat heavy body with a creamy sort of mouth feel, carbonation is delicate but definitely present. Starts fruity and lightly sweet, dry malt and a wallop of piney bitterness mid palate and heads towards a dry/spicy/woody/long bitter finish. Overall, a very satisfying ASA and thankfully not too sweet, a nice balance of the style and probably ties with oaked AB as my favorite of the Bastards

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
650ml bottle from Bev4less. Pours a murky dark brown color with a medium beige head that has good retention and plenty of lacing. /the aroma is strong with that classic Stone aroma, perfume, citrus hops, leather and dark fruits. The flavor is hops forward with pine, citrus, pecans, thyme, leather, toffee and caramel. The palate is smooth, full and creamy with lively carbonation. Finishes long and biter with a bit of caramel and vanilla making a comeback. overall: A very potent ale, very tasty.
