Oaky dark flavor from a clear ruby tinted beer. Oak rounds the flavors real nice like.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Smokey fruity aroma. Pours a bit on light side. Taste is a wonderful mix of smokeyness with saison fruity and bitter hops. A great well balanced brew!

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Slightly hazy light copper coloured body with a peach glow and a nice two centimetre tall pale white head. Aroma of smoked grain, rye, earth, oak, vanilla, scotch, bourbon and some meat and mushrooms. Full-bodied; Earthy flavour with a ton of meat flavours, soy sauce, alcohol, oak, dry grain, rye and some light sugars. Aftertaste is funky - smoked, but not in a good way, earthy, malty, rich with the meat, mushroom and umami flavours really coming out. Overall, a very passable beer that shows way too many strong earthy and meaty flavours and not enough saison or complexity that is wanted. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Tyson’s Corner (Falls Church), Virginia on 06-February-2014 for US$6,79 sampled at home in Washington on 11-September-2014 after spending some time at the Pentagon today after 13 years.

Glass of bad. Odd lightly smokey intensely sweet saisonish beer. Candy sugar, wood, banana, smoke, grass, and bad. Finish is sweeeeeet with nothing to make you want more.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 7/20
Bottle: Hazy yellow, orange, & amber all over with a foamy, sudsy white head that settles to a fine film & collar quickly. Aroma of slightly gummy & spiced Belgian yeast, bread, mild caramel apple, lightly musty cotton, & a small touch of candied fruit. Intensely sweet flavor... Wow. Didn’t see that one coming. Huge Candi sugar, caramel coated cherries, toffee batter, phenols, light medicinal yeasty spice, clove, hint of honey baked bread. Floral notes up front, a bit spicy. I can’t get over the immense sweetness & cottony medicinal finish. Not my jam.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
A pale amber with hints of green in the right light, thin, stark white head. Big aroma - fruity, pepper and strong cherry. Very complex beer. Really sweet upfront, developing Into a mixing pot of spice and pepper In the middle finishing on a bitter and smoky end. You can definitely taste the cherry and it almost feels as if it were built around a wine template. Agree with previous reviewer that it probably belong in the strong ale category. I think the bitterness at the end is a little crude and throws out the balance a bit but I can’t deny that the complex flavours make for an interesting drink. Mouth feel is quite dense and syrupy, daring you to keep drinking; very dangerous for a 10.5

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured from 22 oz. bottle.
Hazy amber-gold with a 3-finger off-white head and good lacing.
Aroma of smoked apples, candied fruit, spices, coriander, strawberries, pale malt and overripe apricots.
The taste is full-flavored and always interesting with smoky tropical fruit, spices, caramel, overripe apricots, berries, composting leaves, pale malt and citrus.
Medium body and medium/low carbonization with a smooth, foamy mouthfeel.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
More Belgian ale or Belgian strong than Saison at 10%. Just a hint of tart. Comte sweet and yeasty than anything else. Aroma sweet Belgian with a little cherry. Smoke only comes out at room temp. Smoke more peeve land in the flavor. Less cherry. A pretty good beer, but pretty ho hum for Stone. Mighta been better at 6-7%."
