Life is extraordinarily precious, joyous...and fragile. At Stone, we recently were reminded of this when we lost our dear friend and coworker, Matt Courtright. We felt that there was no better way to share with the world what an extraordinary person he was than by brewing this beer he created. Rather than a somber momento, please think of this as a celebration of Matt. We do. We canít contemplate it any other way. Matt was by no means a shrinking violet. Quite the contrary. He was exuberant, courageous, outwardly positive, and the type of stalwart friend everybody who knew him was happy to have in their corner. Mattís smile and voluminous laugh were infectious mainstays around the brewery. He was larger than life in every way...and he was without a doubt an incredible brewer.

Everyone at Stone recognized Mattís prowess and passion for brewing. He loved to explore what-ifs and why-nots. He crafted the beer you hold in your hands, which he conceived with Stone friend and colleague, Brian Bishop. Burning Rosids is a Belgian-style saison incorporating a unique ingredient-cherrywood smoked malt (the name references the rosid plant family from which cherry trees hail).

Brian and Mattís many devoting brewing comrades here at Stone were proud to hoist this mash paddles and brew this recipe for him as a symbolic gesture of how much he meant to everyone and how immensely he is missed. When you enjoy this very special beer, please join all of us in raising your glass in Mattís memory and to everything he so passionately stood for: contributing and caring for others, passion and skill for his art, and laugther. Lots of laughter. Among the list of things he held dear was GoDesignInc.org, a charity committed to fulfilling the architectural needs of developing communities around the world, and we are proudly contributing funds earned through the sale of this beer to this worthy organization in Mattís honor. Enjoy, and please remember that life and those we hold dear are precious gifts to be cherised every day. Consider sharing this beer, conversations on lifeís passions and, again, lots of laughter, with good friends as we remember ours.

Oaky dark flavor from a clear ruby tinted beer. Oak rounds the flavors real nice like. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Fragrant aroma does not make you think of beer. Flavour starts with that same floral quality that also emerges in the after taste. Falvour seems more Triple than Saison. Thick malt. A bit of sourness and fruity.

Pours a clear golden orange color with a frothy white head that leaves lacing up the glass. Aroma of smoke, Belgian yeast, banana esthers, clove phenols, pepper and then more cherrywood. Taste is fruity esther with some spicy cloves, pepper, orange zest, smokiness from the cherrywood & a bit of alcohol. Body is big and malty but the finish is dry & bitter...great imperial saison!

650ml bottle pours a golden orange color with a finger of white head that leaves some spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma is smoky with some caramel and citrus. Taste is smoky with a citrusy tartness and a light fruity and malty sweetness and a spicy, dry yeasty finish. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Although this is an interesting brew and seems to be well crafted, this one just does not suit my tastes.

On tap at craft. Clear singed gold. Aroma of smoke, lemon, spices. Taste is sweet and late bitterness. Oily mouthfeel, but still clean.

Draft at World of Beer Gainesville. Pours murky orange yellow with a small creamy white head. Aroma is straight up smoke and char, and not in a good way. Flavor is overly sweet and overly smokey at the same time, like drinking oversmoked bacon, with nothing Saison about it. Way too heavy body in the style, medium low carbonation. This is truly terrible.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Dancing Camel Florentin. Thanks Ariel. Hazy gold-orange. Aroma of fruitiness, some smoked wood and sausages and an alcoholic touch. Sweet flavor, a bit honey-ish, with fruitiness, malt, some wood smokiness and a mildly spicy finish with a light alcoholic touch. Medium-bodied. Sweet and heavy. Not great.

Really liking this. I tried to get some on tap at the sail stone tap takeover but was a bit late. Stone brewing mattís burning rosids. 10.5% cherrywood smoked saison. Iím a big fan of saison and American bbq so this appeals to me on a couple of levels. First whiff is of smoke - more of a hickory type smoke than I was expecting, which is excellent. As it warms it gives off some citric aromas too. The tangy bbq theme continues in the taste dept, alongside traditional saison flavours and some peppery Cointreauish feelz. Moderate carbonation and a thick, warming, almost barleywine like mouth feelz caps off what feels like a new adventure in beer. Like when you thought you knew zelda, and then bang! Ocarina of time.

Draft. I didnít even hate this beer, but as far as Iím concerned stupid shit like this can die out. Overly sweet and yeasty, some smoked malts, fruity hops that donít bring nearly enough bitterness to counteract the sweetness. All over the place. Again, I didnít hate it. I just expected better, I guess.

Julie thinks it is like licking grassy Julie gives a 1.5. For complexity. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
