Black colored beer with a khaki head. Plenty of roasted malt and a very strong chili pepper aroma. A bit spicy, quite smokey, and some chocolate and coffee notes. Thereís a mild acidity to the flavor along with intense doses of smoke and chili pepper. Moderate spice, lots of roasted malt, dark chocolate, and coffee. I donít really get a lot of the herbal qualities, however.

A deep dark clear brown ale with ruby hues and a thick lacing brown head. In aroma, a well balanced mix of caramel malt with coffee and smooth floral hops. In mouth, a nice nutty caramel with nice grassy hops, light herbs, nice and smooth. On tap at Aces and Ales Strong Beer Fest August 10, 2012.

Tap at Parkway Tavern. Deep amber pour. The aroma is slightly peppery with a touch of light resin and some slightly fruity character as well. Very light heat and a whiff of smoke. Woody bitterness with a lingering touch of vegetal flavour. Interesting - but not really my bag.

On tap. Pours with a nearly black hued body with a large and lasting tan head. Good retention. Aromas are smokey, fruity, very estery, dark fruits, peppery heat, mild hop/herbal/citrus characters, and milk chocolate. Flavors are dry, medium bitter, fruity, hoppy, light pepper burn, light tropical fruit, raisins, blueberry, dark currant. A bit chalky in its dryness. Ashy. Lively bubbles, dry, light pepper burn. Drinks as if its at least 7.5%

Someone brought this over to me to try at DLD í12. Thanks! Pours a mostly opaque coffee brown with a small beige head. Lots of piney and citrusy hops immediately come out of the aroma, balanced by big roastiness. Also notes of peppery spices, earth, and citrus fruits. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation. Comes across as messy, but interesting nonetheless.

Draft at stone bistro. Clear dark brown, small light tan head. Very herbal, citrus, lemon thyme, light sage, and chili pepper at the back. Pretty light, and any heat dissipates quickly. Certainly interesting.

On guest tap at DLD í12. Pours a deep brown colored body with a finger-width, creamy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is citrus pines and earth up front with a light, vegetal pepper. A slight roast, a good amount of lemon thyme, and herbs. Flavor is similar. Lots of lemony thyme and some pines with a vegetal pepper that isnít hot at all. Herbal spices, lots of earth, a touch of roast, and a hint of licorice before the lemon thyme and peppers increase more into the finish where this is dry, moderately bitter, and earthy. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, a pretty interesting beer with a lot of things going on. I like the peppers and big lemon thyme along with the big earthy hops, but I definitely could not pick out each beer in the blend. Glad to have tried.

Pint at Pizza Port OB. Clear dark ruby brown, lasting creamy beige head. Lemon herbal that I now know as sage and/or lemon thyme), very herbal and spicy. Some toasty malts and roast thatís got anise behind. Flavor adds some chocolatey notes. Dry finish, bitterness at a 4. I do get some vegetal notes from the chiles, but zero heat. Medium body with prickly moderate carbonation. Kinda weird, but I didnt hate it, and probably donít need to try again.

Pours deep black with a very white head to it. It is one of the weirdest smelling beers. A lot going on and I canít quite put my finger on most of the aromas. There is a slight pepper taste. Lemon notes. I canít pick out any of the beers blended into it. The sage, peppers and lemon thyme dominate.

Served on tap at the 16th Anniversary Festival. The appearance is a brown hue with a small off white or tan head. The flavors and aromas are a hodge podge of Stoneís regular offerings (no surprise there). Belgium yeast, black peppers, with a medium roast malt profile. Some lemon and spice peppers add some subtle notes. A drinkable and pretty tasty beer but lacks a clear direction. The blend doesnít really offer anything in the middle of the taste like a great beer should. Almost comes off as empty despite a lot going on. I bet if I had this a few times each time I would pick up different pieces of the puzzle. Fun non the less.
