The Winking Lizard Blend, which was designed by The Winking Lizard Tavern operating partner John Lane for the Ohio restaurant chain of the same name, and crafted in a blending session with Lane, GK, Stone President and Co-founder Steve Wagner, Bremaster Mitch Steele and the aforementioned Moynier. It’s a blend of Stone Cali-Belgique IPA, unreleased Stone Belgian Pale Ale aged in White Wine Barrels and Stone LeVariation Ale (Stone Levitation Ale fermented with the yeast strand utilized for our Belgian IPA, Stone Cali-Belgique IPA) aged in Red Wine Barrels that’s been dry-hopped with East Kent Golding Hops. (Whew!) Coming in around 8% ABV, it’s immensely fruity from the vino and Belgian yeast esters, and built as something of an “homage” to the Belgian Trappist classic, Orval. This beer will be featured at The Winking Lizard Tavern locations the entire month of June along with numerous other Stone beers.

Draft. Perfectly clear rosy-orange with one inch of off-white head. The nose: a splash of vinegar, oak, grapefruit peel, touches of banana and pear. The flavor: lots of white grapes, pear syrup, green oak, a touch of butter, caramel. A hint of green jolly rancher sourness as well. There’s some lingering Cali Beglique bitterness after a biscuity finish. Smooth medium body is hefty for the style. High, champagne-like carbonation delivers plenty of silky fizz. Neat.

On tap at Tribes Alehouse. Pour is translucent orange with a small white head. Aroma is of light fruit, citrus, yeast, and vines. Flavor is similar with some more wine qualities coming through - white grapes, citrus peel, and hops.

Draft - pine nose. Starts off quite sprucy, but the white wine barges in and makes itself at home and drinks your cellared beers straight out of the bottle while eating Cheetos. Thanks but no thanks. Fruity aftertaste.

Draft at Ei8ht Ball. Pours a clear orange-gold with a minimal off-white head. Aroma of peach, apricot, herbs, sweet malts, and red and white wine grapes. Flavor of pale and sweet malts, oak, vanilla, grapes, and florals. Light-bodied, with modest carbonation and a bright, vinous mouthfeel that has some floral bitterness at the end. Really nice and refreshing.

Deep amber color with a foamy off white head. Light citrus nose. The biggest flavor in here is orange peel, with strong wine and grape notes and lots of yeast. Dry barrel finish. Interesting beer.

Clear copper with a thin foamy white head. Nose is like hoppy grassy boozy bubblegum, with an earthy spicy caramel. Weird, but not bad. Just quite an eccentric nose. Taste starts a bit boozy and overly floral-resiny with strong bitterness and a bit of syrupy dank malt, almost like thin molasses. Citric and piney finish, kinda dry and more boozy than necessary.
